When do you decide to ditch a book?

Are you someone who reads it no matter what? What keeps you going?

When do you decide to give up on a book?

I can tell within a few pages if it is wonderful read - sometimes within the first paragraph.

Hmmmmm, I don't generally give up reading a dog book because I select it carefully or have agreed to review it. However, I never finished Following Atticus - about walking all the hills in NH with a dog (not my favorite breed). I"m not sure I will return to this book though at my book club someone loved it - from NH, etc.

I found The Legacy of Beezer and Boomer to be so inspiring yet I cried too much to finish it. I did, however, correspond with the author and got him on another book discussion list.

If I have checked the book out from the libe and it is due and can't be renewed, I may not finish it.

I look forward to hearing others' responses!

I make myself read at least 5 chapters before I ditch a book that I'm not into. However, if it is for my book group I may try to read further.

Sometimes I'm really glad I went past those chapters cause it can pick up.

I did read Atticus and liked it. One book I loved that's a dog book was "One Good Dog". That one the dog had a chapter with his voice, and the next would be the owners voice.
