Nina (lumielles) | 11 comments I read a lot of books in just one day, for example all the Vampire Academy books. But I think the shortest amount was yesterday, when it took me only 4 hours to finish Mayhem :)
Yeah I think this is the power of procrastination :D

I've finished a 300 paged book in an hour before. And it would probably take me 5 minutes to finish a 12 paged first grade book or something like that."

Exactly. And the age range. A toddler's book might only take a few minutes.

message 22: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Elise (sashaghostbooks) | 5334 comments Depends on the genre and length.

I can finish a 100-200 page poetry book in under an hour and I read a 400 page novel within about 2-3 days.

Julia | 117 comments Aakash wrote: "3 hours to complete the 'cursed child'."

Me too, I think. First time I read a book in a day. (I just had to get it over and done with; it was that painful for me.)

Also read Among the Hidden in a few hours one day.

˙⋆✮ Anny ✮⋆˙ (annithebookprincess) I once read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in about 3 hours

message 25: by Melliott (new)

Melliott (goodreadscommelliott) | 510 comments I frequently read a book in a day. Depending on the length, of course!

message 26: by OliveTree (new)

OliveTree (themostsmooth) | 15 comments im a notoriously slow reader but i finished the third five nights at freddy's book (The Fourth Closet) in one night in one sitting. I'm not sure why, for some reason it really hooked me I guess, which is weird considering I'm not exactly its target audience

message 27: by OliveTree (new)

wow good for you, not being sarcastic either. wish I could get anything read at this point.

message 30: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 15, 2019 02:02PM) (new)

I can read a 350 pages book in 4 hours.

message 31: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (caro7) Well, it depends on the length, but a few years ago, I read a book that was around 250 pages in two days. You speedy readers will laugh, but for me, that was a record. I can't read for hours straight. I start to feel antsy and..."stale." I have to get up and do something else.

message 32: by ElsaMakotoRenge (new)

ElsaMakotoRenge (mantaicysnowflake) | 31 comments It depends on the kind of book. Obviously some cute picture book takes much less time to read than a 400 page novel. Then there’s manga, sometimes I’ll take a long time to read a volume because I’m spending awhile just enjoying the artwork; other times I’ll just breeze through the story.

(And it depends if I’m enjoying the book or not, it takes me longer to get through books I don’t like much.)

message 33: by Hazel (new)

Hazel (hazeluriel) | 160 comments I read Worlds Collide in about four hours. I also read The End of Olympus (Pegasus 6) in a little over that.

message 34: by Lasar (new)

Lasar (lasarmoon) I've read a 400 pg book in an hour once (can't remember which one, but it was really good!) and quite a few 300 pg books in 2 hours.

message 35: by Hazel (new)

Hazel (hazeluriel) | 160 comments I also read four of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books in a little under two hours I think.

message 36: by Colca (new)

Colca | 33 comments Wow, a bragging conversation… That's what the world needed. I myself am a really slow reader - I can manage at most 150 pages a day… so 2 days.

Caroline (caro7) Colca wrote: "I myself am a really slow reader - I can manage at most 150 pages a day… so 2 days."

Two days for a single book is very fast. In my observation over my years on GR, I'm one of the slowest readers here, reading on average 20 books (paper, no audio) per year. In the eyes of non-GR people, that's a colossal amount. I don't know how everyone else is finding the free time to read so much and so quickly.

˙⋆✮ Anny ✮⋆˙ (annithebookprincess) I once read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in about 3 hours (it was a reread). But I haven't been able to read a book in a day ever since.

That's so comforting to hear! This is just a very depressing topic to read, because nearly everyone on goodreads reads so fast. The last time I checked, I can read about 20 pages per hour (which I know is really slow). Meanwhile people write how they managed to read a 300 pg. book in one hour.
20 books per year sounds just about the right amount I read.

Colca, you and I definitely aren't alone. I think those who read about 20 per year are less likely to talk about it (or participate in the challenge) because we feel kind of, well, ashamed (at least I do) since we're surrounded by so many who read 100 or more. But the fact of the matter is, 20 is an excellent number to read in a year; it's much more than the average person reads. A significant percentage of people don't read even one book a year and haven't read since they were in school, when they were required to. Also consider the role audio books play. I'd probably get through at least double what I do now if I listened to audio books. Anyway, it's really not a competition, and readers absorb their reading in ways that can slow down or speed up that reading.
