SOLVED. Sci Fi - in style of text book. Evolution of humans. [s]

A book I read in the 2000s. A large book with plenty of pictures. Describing the evolution of humans over tge next millions of years. Contains big hairy yeti-like humans, amphibious people, colonial desert people (sort of like an ant colony), parasitic people that live with the teti people. Cyborgs.
It was an intriguing book and I'd love to find it again. I have the feeling it was called something like "the ascent of man" but google searches have led nowhere.
