Just wanted to recommend this. An amazingly good book about all you wanted to know about databases: how they store data, the tradeoffs between different data models (relational, document, graph, ...), the varoius ways databases solve multi-node replication, all amazingly well-explained and free of all the hype you see in the database vendors' blogs. Essential knowledge for basically every developer.
