fiction, man fading into a limbo world where everything is gray/colourless, early to mid 80s [s]

I've been trying to come up with the title of this for years. Some key points:

*I believe his name was something like Graeme, or Gramie, or Jamie
*Random items slip into this world and retain their color, like an apple or a walkman
*He notices he's 'fading' at a fast-food place where the waitress doesn't even notice him at first
