July/August book! The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf
So the wait is rather over.But I'll admit i was rather enjoying the anticipation.Anyhow,thank the good lord that you didn't forget OSS.Hope we'll all enjoy reading this.Good luck! ;)

The anticipation was definitely a rare pleasure that I enjoyed. Looking forward to reading Naomi Wolfs work during my move from US to Japan next week.
I just finished The Beauty Myth last week and it was fantastic! The chapter on sex and the chapter on religion made so many things so clear to me. I would also recommend Wolf's 1995 essay "Our bodies, our souls".
Got this on Kindle and have been meaning to read it soon, so glad it's the next book ☺️

Ooh, I've seen mixed reviews on this one, but it is considered one of the classics of feminist literature! I shall see how I find it when I get hold of a copy.

Dont care about age. Is important to concern about this kind of topics and conversations, and its more important your desire to help, not your age. I see this action pure and helpful for himself and for all the womans around the world. Its most important your mental age, than your real one, its my opinion,(sorry if my english its not that good)

No,don't say that.If she already feels strongly about something she can hang on to it.There is no age bar to such kind of thinking or ideals.Even I have supported gender equality since such a long time and didn't have any internet or social media,otherwise I would have been exactly as enthusiastic as Beatrix.
This may not be one of the ideals we support here,but we need to give youngsters a chance to grow without restrictions.I hope you get what I am trying to say.Because we all know that none of us liked being shushed as a kid for being a kid.
Why would Beatrix be too young? I think it's great if younger people are interested in gender equality because they'll be able to make a difference and are often a lot more open to different ideas! Sure, at 12 years there are obviously some things you can't have experienced yet but maybe these books will eventually help you when you grow older to understand certain things/see them differently.
But most of all, especially this book club should be a safe space for anyone to talk about books and gender equality!

You carry on, Beatrix, you're never too young to start making the world a better, fairer place.At 12 I would have been too shy to comment on any social media group, let alone one with such an emotive cause, so please don't shoot people down in such a way.
I understand that as we have members from all over the world, there may also be a slight language barrier, and of course it can be very difficult to judge tone of voice from text on a page, but let's be kind x

Beatrix, I saw someone say you are too young. People say that, because we are complex and our opinions and experiences are never fully formed. Either way, I wanted to share this response in her local paper by one of the students from New Jersey who was told she and her classmates were too young to make political statements:

Cassandra, that is a great article and example that students are not too young to speak out about their beliefs. I am an instructional assistant for kids in K-8, and the older kids especially love to talk about issues they are passionate about. They live in a world where issues like gender equality are especially relevant, and thinking one is too young only makes one more afraid to speak out. Those kids are always wanting to talk to me about the things they see on the news and what they read, etc.
Beatrix, you are not too young. Keep speaking out and hold onto your desire to talk about these things. The more we speak out the bigger difference we will make in the long run.
Also, definitely looking forward to reading this one! I can't wait to get started!

YESSSSS!!!! A new book to read is always brightening my day! Now I only need to look where I can get it, but I don't think it should be a problem!As for Beatrix: You're not too young, and you will always have some peopl around who you can talk to if you really don't understand something (which is not a problem at such a young age!). Woman, I wish I would have been as interested in such an important cause 8 years ago!

saw the circle Emma I like it maybe OSS makes you more open to parables. Anyway can see why it might freak you out did me a bit but remember the end Mae came back to fight. Scary as it is, and I get that too. We have to be engaged to make a difference. Respectfully Ross.

(Just see a 12-year-old child textbooks. they are full of drawn pictures of flowers, birds singing, garden, mickey mouse, bugs bunny and so on... then gender equality political issues... then you go and tell the people writing the books, "include these things too! they have to be aware. they are not too young.")

I did a semester - long project on this topic for a communications class several years ago. I wish I'd found this book, then! I'll be happy to expand my knowledge on the topic!

That's definitely old enough to have a passion for gender equality and read books about it! I'm 20 now and wish I started thinking about these topics at her age.

Excellent choice!! "The Beauty Myth" is a seminal piece of feminist literature that's been sitting on my shelf for a number of years. I read selections from it back at university in at least one of my women's studies courses, but never got around to reading the entire thing. Now I can finally finish it, alongside an entire community of readers!
Hello, the book of this month souds like a very good book, but it's not sold in France, so does anyone know how I could be able to read it ?
This is my first time reading along with you all and I have purchased The Beauty Myth online today. I can't wait to start it and delve into the discussions with you all later. I have only recently come across this reading club and picked A Color Purple to read whilst waiting for the July announcement. I have to say that I am loving it so far and I cannot wait for all the works that I will read from now on, by being a part of this movement.

Beatrix, I think it's absolutely fantastic that you're interested in such a topic at a young age. I've just joined OSS and will be reading along with you guys as well as my 13 year old cousin who is highly interested in this subject as well. She highly enjoys reading and I think that it's great we can incorporate feminism into that for her to learn about too. Both of us are extremely excited and I can't wait to discuss her thoughts with the upcoming books with her and for her to express her views at the age she is. I hope that you will continue to express yours too!!
Having had the honor to hear Ms. Wolf speak in person, I bought this book and had her autograph it. I'm so glad to get this push to finally read it.

it's never too early to achieve great things
Italian version is not longer purchasable in every single shopping (online and not) I searched in. I brought it in English, is going to be in my hands in 7-10 days. I hope I will be able to enjoy and understand it as well as I was reading in my first language.
