At two hundred pages in, I'm noticing a lot of paralells between this and James Ellroy's The Big Nowhere. Both are about reluctant police officers who must infiltrate the worker's movement under the auspices of root out sedition. Both deal with the officer's reactions to the right wing propaganda at the time. Finally, I'm noticing that much of the dialogue could come directly from Dudly Smith--crude, sadisitic ideas wrapped in florid language.
