Have you tried The Book of Human Skin by Michelle Lovric? It's been a while since I read it, but I can still remember the anti hero.

Hi Aida! You should get a Kindle Fire from Amazon, they have 'word wise' that will help break down words for you and you can simply click on words to get definitions and how to say them. I love my kindle! Highly recommended

This is rather long but it gives you a pretty good idea of what I do most of the time.Personally: Number One as always is Keep Cats Happy. I'm also trying to keep up with house and yard work in spite of occasional extreme heat warnings.
Friends of the Library volunteer: This may turn out to be more exciting and challenging than expected.
Community group SEFFShawnee does what is called Third Friday each month when weather permits. The library participates and many of the events center on the park across the street from the library. That street will be closed for August 16th Third Friday which coincides with 50th anniversary of Woodstock. There will be concert in the park and other things. They are calling it Shawneestock. Friends group was going to do Summer of Love and offer paperback romances half off all summer but we received a large donation of cookbooks. No sales space for both so instead on the night of the concert we are doing Free Love. For three hours, or as long as they last, we will be giving away paperback romance books. Random selection of historical, contemporary, Harlequin-Silhouette and more. Some older, some newer, if it is something we pack as romance we will have it on the porch of the library to give away. Anyone who has the patience to look through may have as many as they want. SEFF posted on July 15th there were over 2000 people who said they planned to attend Shawneestock. I thought the romance giveaway was a good idea but that's a lot of people. San Francisco Summer of Love was 2 years before Woodstock but it was a catchy name for summer romance discount sale and now I'm thinking we maybe should have gone ahead with that. Ah, well, in about two weeks from now Shawneestock will be over except for the clean up. Then it will be time to start preparing for the fall book sale.
I think interested people in the area already know about Shawneestock and I don't expect anyone from out of the area would attend on the chance of finding a free book they want but if this counts as promo let me know and I will edit out any identifying details. This is the life of a volunteer as anyone who volunteers with any group usually learns from something similar at sometime. Sometimes things grow and grow, just as sometimes things flop.
Thanks to all who support their local libraries no matter where they are.

I hope so. The two of us doing book giveaway are both old enough to have attended Woodstock and regret not doing it, so are very familiar with the bands, music, clothing, hair styles... we may or may not manage the requested "hippie" look. We are keeping our fingers crossed on weather. No rain please, because in this case, unlike Woodstock, it would probably mean cancellation.
I don't know if this is kind of random but, whenever you guys are reading and something you didn't expect would happen, happened, are you shocked? Do you re-read what you have read to make sure you've read it correctly. Because I found myself doing that today so I thought it would have been relatable.
E wrote: "I don't know if this is kind of random but, whenever you guys are reading and something you didn't expect would happen, happened, are you shocked? Sometimes I missed foreshadowing earlier in the book. Sometimes a new unexpected element is being introduced that fits and works. Sometimes the unexpected seems a way out of a corner authors have written themselves into and in that case it doesn't always work well.
L J wrote: "E wrote: "I don't know if this is kind of random but, whenever you guys are reading and something you didn't expect would happen, happened, are you shocked? I do also agree, some unexpected information works and some where it doesn't work well. It will probably depend on the type of story.
Maybe I am just easily shocked sometimes while reading an unexpected scene/twist then because it's happened quite a few times 😂
This got me thinking about the flip side of the coin... predictability, especially when it comes to endings. I don’t need to be shocked by an ending and not every book needs some kind of clever twist but an ending that is too predictable is always a disappointment to me.

Well, I read 195 books over my goal of 100... 195.
I'm not sure I'll do that next year or even try to beat that... but I'm proud of my accomplishment!

Thanks.... there were so many new book to read last year, I hope there are as many. But then I discovered several new authors that I had never heard of before!
Being retired from the Library has some disadvantages, not seeing all the new books first or ordering them....

If you are using Goodreads to keep up with new books coming out you should be aware that there is a "caching issue" that may cause recent books (Oct 2019 & newer?) to not show up on authors' book lists. You can find book by searching using ISBN/ASIN so you can add it to your shelves.I knew about it but only recently realized how bad it is. I missed some in November and December that are still not showing on authors' book lists.
uh oh! what I do is i just take a break from reading for a while and then re-read one of my favorite books. that usually gets me back into reading.
I usually just take a break from reading and browse book stores and libraries until I stumble upon something interesting. I always find a good book, but I take my time. I think sometimes you just need a book break!
I do something else..... I paint, go out stroll around & eat, go to the local gardens/spa....
It will return....
Meanwhile listen to music!

I just want to give a shout out and round of applause to my co-moderator (and, I believe, group founder back on Shelfari) - Kimberly a/k/a Auntie Nanuuq.
She really keeps this group running smoothly. Never forgetting to start a new monthly thread and encouraging / welcoming new members. She single handedly manages the Facebook version of Book Chat as well.
Brava, Auntie!

Yes thankfully. I am in NYS. We had phased re-opening, although gyms are not open yet. Nothing is back to normal, but better. We were the worst state and now we are doing quite well. Masks have been "law" since end of March/early April. I still limit myself to going out for necesessities one day a week. I have been laid off since March. Looking for new job which is quite difficult without a computer. Our library just re-opened last week for 4 hrs a day M-F and computers are one hour by appt only. Thankfully I have a lot of books at home, no reading shortage! Can't wait to catch up with everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the nudge, L J. I haven't been in the group's site for over a week. I've created the new review thread.

Art is good for mind and soul. I have little talent but great appreciation. Artist friends. Been a docent.
Fortunately I am able to listen to audio books and do some things I set out to do while home, now if I could just get on track with exercise goals...

I was battling an eye infection at the end of October ... not reading much since putting that ointment in my eye every day had me looking at the world through a film (kinda like trying to see through a piece of waxed paper). Nothing life threatening, but it sure was a pain in the ... well ... eye.

I've had one serious eye infection. I was a kid and still remember it quite clearly. It made me more understanding than I might otherwise have been when I had to treat our cat who had chronic eye problem.

Hi, Aida. I think you are doing pretty well for being a non-native English speaker.
This group has several folders:
Members ... which this thread is a part of ... includes a self-introduction thread and just general chatting about whatever.
What Are You Reading / Reviews ... self-explanatory. This is where you'll post reviews of books you've read, and look at or comment on reviews posted by other group members.
Challenge and Games ... This is where you'll find fun games and challenges.
Book Related Banter ... As the name implies, this is where you'd post book-related info OTHER than reviews.
SelfPromotion Giveaways Offers ... in this folder authors may offer giveaways of their books, or just give notice of special sales. These threads have a deadline and are deleted as the deadline passes.
