Hey folks!
Welcome to my newly created fan group. A fan group on Goodreads? For a Podcast? Well when it's a podcast that is all things reading and books, where else would we be?

Anyway, my name is Chrissy, and i live in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. I enjoy reading all sorts of things, but my favourite is Dark Fantasy.

So hello all! Come say hi, introduce yourself, and tell us what you like to read!

message 2: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (gabbiest) | 2 comments Hey y'all! My name is Gabrielle and I live in the greater Charleston, SC area. I am getting married in the fall and I have a cat named Alibi and a dog named Witness. I am also working on finishing a novel I have been working on since high school. I pretty much read anything I can get my hands on, but I tend to stick to fiction for the most part and my favorites lately seem to be in the dystopian YA category.

message 4: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (veriloquacious) Hello, everyone! ^^ I'm Beatrice, I'm from the Metro Detroit area. I am an obsessive tracker of ebook deals and discounts, voracious reader and general nerd. The vast majority of what I read is fantasy, with some sci-fi and miscellaneous other things in there too! I read a lot of kid lit and ya lit, both because I love them and because I have a lot of younger siblings to try to get engaged in reading (with varying levels of success).

I'm always on the lookout for dragons, good lgbt rep, fairytale retellings, and engaging female leads~

message 5: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (readingrachbow) Hi everyone! 👋🏼 My name is Rachel and I am a huge book nerd and comic geek. I love to read almost anything I can get my hands on, except for horror. I tend to burst into tears when I'm scared and that's not fun for anyone. I am truly obsessed with books and reading, this was realized even more so last night when I saw I had "only" read 43 books this year 😂. I currently live in Phoenix, AZ but will be moving back to Los Angeles, CA soon once I finish my degree! I love giving book recommendations, and I also love when people aren't afraid to give me book recommendations. So excited to get to know all of you!

message 6: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Gray (lycanthropologies) Hello! I'm Alyssa, and I'm from Denton TX. I'm a student at the University of North Texas seeking my elementary ed degree and eventually I want to be a reading specialist. I also cofounded a nonprofit benefiting children's literacy (cough Language of Laughter like us on Facebook). I LOVE to read and write and I'm currently doing Camp NaNo to work on a short story that's been marinating in my brain for a while.

message 7: by Emma (new)

Emma Refvem (refvemma) Hello!! I'm Emma & I'm a high school science teacher from Durham, North Carolina and I really love reading! When I went through school, I kinda forgot that, though... so a few years ago, with the help of one of my students who very stubbornly "peer"-pressured me into reviewing my books on Goodreads, I started reading 15 minutes a day and quickly re-learned my favorite hobby. I like to read fiction- I usually try to read the current "big reads" people talk about, sprinkled with some YA (realistic/distopian/fantasy/etc) and recommendations now and then. I'm excited to join a community of readers!!! I started a book club reading fiction novels written by women of color, so that's been influencing my reading choices this year. So far it's been really great and refreshing. Can't wait to meet y'all!

message 8: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (booksandk9s) Hello! My name is Whitney, and I am from Pennsylvania. I favor mysteries, thrillers and quirky science books (Mary Roach, Sam Kean). However I have recently expanded into nonfiction and some cozies. Looking forward to this community!

message 17: by Amanda-Jayna (new)

Amanda-Jayna (mando17) | 1 comments Greetings! I'm Mando. I live near Ottawa, ON. I was really into reading as a kid, and after a major hiatus, I really want to get back into it (all that time I spend mindlessly scrolling on my phone is prime reading time!) I haven't really figured out what kind of books I love to read yet. I know I love Dennis Lehane, I've read the Kenzie-Gennaro books a few times now. I like to read books about famous people/bands. And I really like history and learning new things, so this year I read Devil in the White City, which I enjoyed (though kept switching back and forth on which story I was enjoying more), and I enjoyed Stiff by Mary Roach, so I plan on reading more from her. :)

I mostly find myself reading YA (my favorite book of all time is Ella Enchanted and my newest favorite series is The Lunar Chronicles) but I also enjoy reading classics of multiple languages, fantasy, and anything else that catches my eye. I've recently gotten into more non-fiction as well.

Emilia Hello! My name is Emilia and I'm a Scandinavian expat currently living in the UK. I love to read, especially Sci-Fi, fantasy (mostly urban fantasy at the moment), historical fiction and mystery novels.
I used to read a book a day since I was a kid but then took a few year break from reading due to problems wth ADD and finally got back on track again last year.
So little time, so many books to read!

message 25: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Turner (headturner91) Hi friends! I'm Kyle and I live in central Texas. I'm a huge fan of literature, thrillers and mysteries, with some fantasy thrown in on occasion. I also love writing and am currently working on a grounded science fiction/fantasy novel in addition to writing the occasional comedy sketch for some actor friends of mine. Can't wait to get to know everyone!

message 26: by Teddy (new)

Teddy | 3 comments Hi, I'm Rhianna and I'm from Northumberland in England. I like all kinds of things, but I'd say mostly sci-fi right now. Bio-scifi and Victorian murder/detective audiobooks.

message 27: by Meg (new)

Meg Blasi | 5 comments Hi! I'm Meg, from Bethlehem, PA. Lots of PA representation in this group! Sci Fi and YA are my go-to's, but as I rapidly approach 30 I feel like I want to broaden my horizons as far as what I read. I'm excited to see what this group has to recommend!

message 28: by Grayson (new)

Grayson (grayson96) | 1 comments Heeey all, I'm Grace and I live in Norwich in England. I've just graduated from university with a degree in English Literature and am starting a masters in Modern and Contemporary Writing in September! I (as you may have guessed) read a lot literary fiction, classics, and critical theory, but I'm also really into comic books and I love memoirs. And man I just love this podcast for the book culture!

message 29: by Avidan (new)

Avidan | 3 comments Hi, I'm Avidan and I just moved to central-ish New Jersey from Manhattan. I typically read science fiction and fantasy, but over the last couple years I started getting into comics and graphic novels. I like to alternate between huge epics and shorter, lighthearted books, the latter being a lot harder to find. I also try to pick out romance novels for my wife but I have about a 33% success rate.

message 30: by Ben (new)

Ben Scofield (bscofield) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Ben, from Durham, North Carolina (Hi, Emma!). I try to read across a range of genres, but I typically come home to sci-fi and fantasy (often in YA). I've been really enjoying the podcast, and I'm looking forward to this group growing!

message 31: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Haller | 10 comments I'm Jake and I live in Providence, RI. I have a podcast with a friend in North Carolina where we talk about YA, so that's mostly what I'm reading these days.

I'm currently finishing up 'Anne of Green Gables', and looking forward in great anticipation to Stephanie Perkins's upcoming 'There's Someone Inside Your House' YA horror novel.

message 32: by Tooch (new)

Tooch (itstooch) | 6 comments Wuddup I'm Tooch from Newark, Delaware. I'm just a big fan of all media and art and storytelling, cartoons, TV, movies, podcasts, music, and Of Course books and comics/manga! I dont always find the time to read regularly but when a book grabs me it doesn't let go haha.

I love scifi and fantasy, especially YA lit, I really like big fleshed out cool worlds and multi-book stories, I love big franchises with lots of characters and history and continuity!

I also love robots, so my mecha shelf has a lot of Gundam and Astro Boy, but also shonen in-general is a fav genre. Osamu Tezuka is The Best.

message 33: by Beth Anne (new)

Beth Anne Farmer | 1 comments Hi! I'm Beth Anne from South Carolina. I love books of all kinds but my most-read genres are fantasy, mystery, true crime, and memoirs. I work in a public library and doing reader's advisory for patrons is one of my favorite things. I just finished grad school so I've finally been able to dive back into my to-read list!

message 34: by Paul (new)

Paul Perry (pezski) | 17 comments Hi, pleased to meet you all. Thanks for setting up this group, Chrissy!

I'm Paul in the fine, green city of Sheffield in the UK, perched on the edge of the Peak District National Park. I try to read fairly broadly and expand my range and outlook (isn't that - one of the things - that reading is about, experiencing other points of view and lives beyond your own?)

That said, I of course have my go-to genres; in non-fiction I mostly read history and science, and in fiction it's mystery, literary and science fiction - which is my first love to which I always return.

Outside of reading, I am a huge tabletop gamer (mostly pen & paper RPGs), I run, cycle and hike (often in the aforementioned Peak District), dabble in photography and love to cook and don't go to the theatre enough.

message 35: by Megan (new)

Megan (megisamellon) Hi everyone!

My name is Megan, and I'm from Oshawa, Ontario. I actually work at my local library doing graphic design for the programs, events, and services that they offer – which is why I adore this podcast so much, they are such great supporters of libraries and what they can offer you, which is something I try to tell people on the daily so it's very nice to hear others who don't work at a library say it as well.

The genres in my wheelhouse are high fantasy, science fiction, and recently I've been getting into mysteries and thrillers. Combinations of these genres are great, and I will want to consume them immediately! Oh and bonus points for anything that has dark magic or villains you can't help but love and adore.

I haven't been very active in the Goodreads community before, but I quite enjoy the podcast and thought it's time to get to know some like minded people and maybe make some new friends along the way.

message 36: by Lillian (new)

Lillian (nanoauthor) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Lillian, sometimes from northern California, sometimes from outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I'm going to be a senior in college this year, studying creative writing. I've been on a big SciFi kick the last few years, but I also love fantasy and comics and read a lot of literary fiction for school. Honestly I read pretty much anything, depending on what I'm feeling.

message 37: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ Hello all, I am Elizabeth in Houston. I teach high school English. I have two girls (twelve and six) that are proving to be big readers.
I gravitate to historical fiction and literary fiction, but I read pretty widely.

I look forward to sharing thoughts on books and all things reading with everyone.

message 38: by Jillypenny (new)

Jillypenny Hi! I'm Jill, mom of two from rural southeast Ontario, Canada. I'm open to reading any thing. I don't do well at committing to and finishing non-fiction. I lean mostly towards sci-fi.

message 39: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie Pitts | 2 comments Hey! I'm Jaimie. I'm a community college student/dine-in movie theater worker in Texas. I'm trying to read more, but it usually takes me a while to finish a book. (Though Audible has helped with this tremendously)

I like mysteries, psychological thrillers, comedies, and some low sci-fi/fantasy. I've also found that I'm fascinated by stories about obsession.

message 40: by Jason (new)

Jason | 1 comments Hi, folks -- librarian in Atlanta. I read a lot of fantasy, but a little of everything. I write some -- professional nonfiction, sadly, nothing fun. :)

Wheelhouse:
- Thieves, rogues, assassins, and heists.
- Psychic powers.
- Bisexual representation.
- Victorian and faux-Victorian settings.

Bonus points for rooftop chases and clever protagonists who stay just one step ahead of their enemies.

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Rhoads (littlebookcorner) Hey! I'm Sarah from Portland, OR. I used to read books so fast my Dad said I must be eating them. I graduated college a couple of years ago with a degree in Chinese (please don't ask me to speak it, I'm so rusty) and have really fallen out of my reading habits.
I joined a very small book club with friends where we read YA fantasy/fiction and guilty pleasure books and it's been the best thing to rekindle my passion for reading. I give Gail Carson Levine credit for giving me my love for books and Sarah J Maas for bringing my love of books back from the dead.
I'm working on writing a book about mermaids and I'm really happy it's becoming more popular in pop culture. It makes it easier to get inspiration.
Happy to be part of the podcast and the group!

message 42: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (wiscowhitney) | 1 comments Hello! Another Whitney checking in. I live in Northeast WI and hit a big reading slump after having kids (ages 3 and 1) and I'm just starting to get back into it. The podcast has certainly helped jump start my reading.

Historically, I've mostly read books that are in the Barnes and Noble Classics series or similar lists or books being made into movies because it feels they are books Everyone Has Read and I haven't and I guess I have serious book FOMO. But life is short so I've started to branch out to more varied genre reading. Comfy mysteries are what I usually go to break a slump though I've found I can't read thrillers or horror any more because I don't need that stress in my life. I probably will keep trying though.

message 43: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexime) | 1 comments Ciao everyone! My name is Jex and I am writing from Taos, New Mexico. I am deeply in love with Sci/Fi, New Weird, and Philosophy, however I have many individual favorites that vary a wide spectrum of genres. I am currently enveloped in a China Mieville binge and have accepted the trade in of social activity for such an indulgence. I am very much looking forward to getting to know you all more and learning about your bookish worlds.

message 44: by Leopold (new)

Leopold (bobbzorzen) | 3 comments Hey everyone. My name is Leo and i'm from Sweden. My favorite genres are High fantasy and sci-fi.

I almost exclusively consume books through audio formats since it allows me to do other things at the same time like work or do household chores.

My favorites include The kingkiller chronicles, The Dresden files and the Ender's Shadow series.

Currently i'm reading(Listening to) Stephen King's "It" and George R.R's A Clash of Kings

message 46: by Elianara (new)

Elianara | 5 comments Hej allihopa! I'm a Swedish speaking Finn from Turku, Finland. I'm a nursing student that works part time, so finding time for reading, other than study materials can be challenging. Summer with only work has been wonderful, have gotten a lot of reading and gaming in, but in just a couple of weeks my studies start again.

My interests are varied, but currently I mainly read romance, fantasy or sci fi, but I am known for picking up a non - fiction book too every now and then.

message 47: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 2 comments Hey everyone! I live in Central Oregon. My favorite genre is mystery. I also adore true crime. Being in the Pacific Northwest means there have been so many tragic events locally to spark my interest! I think ya'll are great and it's awesome to fit in with other book lovers!! 🎈💙

message 48: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 17 comments I'm Sarah, 34 from St Paul, MN. My favorite genres are mystery/thriller, erotica, funny chick lit, and mindfulness or personal growth type non-fiction, but there are things I like in almost any genre. Elise (eliseinspace) | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name is Elise and I live in sunny Brisbane, Australia. I mostly enjoy reading fantasy and scifi but I also enjoy historical fiction and historical biographies (ancient rome or biographies of ancient women, mostly). Also, add some witchy, spookiness to that list as well.

Im currently rereading Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb (I'm doing a slow reread of her books in the lead up to finally starting the Fitz and the Fool final trilogy).

When I'm not reading I like to watch movies, eat snacks, hang out with my boyfriend + our two dogs and gardening.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone :)

message 50: by Gunther (new)

Gunther (guntherpeeters) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm from Belgium but living in Ecuador for some years now. some months I read 6 books, some months I read none.

don't really have a favorite genre. I read most of my books in English on an e-reader. Used to have a nice collection of books in Belgium, but it was too heavy to ship.
