I am having trouble with the continuity involving Kate's cell phone in Chapters 21-23:
In Chapter 21 (page 264 in the paperback edition) Kate says she is taking her cell phone with her before she heads out in the woods to follow up on the note left on her door. She has promised to call Suggs in an hour.
In Chapter 22 (page 278) she makes phone calls to Suggs and Betancourt from the barn so she does have her cell phone with her.
Then of course she makes her escape, falling into the frozen lake, fully submerged, and barely pulling herself out. She makes it to her trailer where, in Chapter 23 (page 296) she reaches under the mattress to retrieve her cell phone to call Betancourt.
So how does all this reconcile? How could she have had her cell phone with her in the barn, and made those phone calls, only to have it under her mattress when she arrived back at the trailer? And if she had it with her all along, it would have been ruined when she was submerged in the water.
Did I miss something here?

She had two cell phones - her personal one and a backup given to her by Betancourt when she first arrives (pages 56 and 57 in the hardcover edition). She always had one on her person when she went out and kept one hidden in her trailer.
