Guinevere Morgan After reading so many negative reviews about A shiver of Light I am torn on rather I want to read this book or not.

For the past several books it has been nothing but PWP/Plot What Plot, and I really don't want to waste my money on what I am now calling the Door Knob/Town Bike books, (Everyone gets a turn or ride whichever you prefer).

I can sum Anita/Merry up in about 5 paragraphs.

Once upon a time Anita/Merry met up with Flavor of the day, henceforth known as Fod. Something about Fod calls to either one of her animals to call or her fertility goddess. They fall into bed, or if a bed is not available any handy surface, floor, wall, table, whatever, and screw like there is no tomorrow, (for the next 50 pages).

Then some s*** happens with a known or an unknown enemy, who of course wants to have sex with Merry Anita Sue. What follows is typical chaos. Followed by some help from old and or new Fod's.

They go home and hope into bed with the man/men who really hold their er..um...heart. Yeah lets go with that and have even more gratuitous sex, because god knows their one and only lovers can't feel left out.

In the midst of all the sex and unnecessary drama real life comes knocking. Anita Merry Sue we really need you to take care of this. 'Oopsie sorry whomever, but I can't I might miss out on getting laid again.' Of course we mustn't forget, our heroine wonders way every other female within a 1,000 mile radius is jealous and wants them dead. And in the case of Anita Sue she worries every little thing to death for about 26 pages and has the audacity to tell us that she thinks like a man.

In the end the bad guys pay, Merry Anita Sue gets another lover to add to the growing number, including the doctor at the hospital who stitched them up after they were injured by the psychopath.

So my question is this? Should I even waste my time buying and reading it? If I do will I be cursing myself for however many wasted hours I spent reading and regretting it and saying, "Well there's x amount of hours of my life I won't be getting back."

I do have problems with Laurell K. as an author in general, when asked if she reads reviews she says no, because good or bad they upset her muse. I write, granted I am not a famous writer but I have posted some of my things on a fan fiction site, and I love getting reviews good or bad, good makes me feel like my effort was worth it. Bad makes me strive harder to do better the next time. I also read that she doesn't want people to write fan fiction with her characters and I think I figured out why. She is probably afraid that they will do a better job at plotting then she does.

Have an awesome type of day and remember this 'Keep Calm and Sing Soft Kitty!'

Should you read it IDK that only you can decide. However, I will say A shiver of light:
1- There is some plot movement.
-&-
2- For LKH minimal sex is included. <-Notice the disclaimer "for LKH" & notice the wording "minimal" as in sex is included just not massive orgies with massive amounts of men you can't keep track of.

that said you make valid points & some of the "peeves" are applicable to A Shiver of Light.

Tanya I would suggest that if you are going to read it, wait until its available at a library that way you are not wasting your money on it. There may not be a lot of sex in this book (Because she has just had a baby) but the parts that are sexual seemed to me to happen at the most ridicules times and places. I have read other peoples points of views on the story and some say that there is a lot of plot development. If you can call 3/4 of the book being characters standing around talking about topics that have mostly already been resolved in other books of the series then I guess you can call it plot development. Not to mention the characters in the story have lost all their original personalities. Unless it told us who was speaking at the time I wouldn't have had any clue who the character was because they all seemed to be the same person to me.

I had brought the book without reading reviews and I am still upset with the lack of effort Hamilton had put into the story. Thankfully I was able to get a refund.

Thank you so much.

John As someone who's read this piece of shit, let me summarize: ***Spoiler to Follow***

First 5%- Dipstick doctors suddenly discover Merry's having triplets instead of twins. Her water breaks; babies are born.

Next 90%- Everyone stands around rehashing every goddamn thing they already fucking know. And then they do it again. And then some more. Taranis makes a play for Merry but gets maimed, rendering him no longer fit to rule. Fae folk who already can bench press Hondas have all suddenly decided they should start lifting weights... for no good fucking reason whatsoever. About every three pages when someone realizes they haven't stood around talking about everything they've already previously discussed, they do so.

Last 5%- Sholto is murdered (mostly for shock value), and in classic LKH fashion the 'investigation' takes all of five pages to resolve and uncover the 'conspiracy' of Taranis being behind it all. Merry is now the ad hoc Queen of the Sluagh.

***End Spoilers***
