I just received my librarian status today. I have made small changes to just 6 books. I am trying to be very cautious. OK, for my question: I have a book In the author's forward, it mentions that it is a followup for a previous book. A character that she couldn't bear to leave without her own romance. In my own database for my own use, I often use the title of the first book as the name of my series if there isn't another obvious thing to call it. What is the general view or thought on how to handle it. thanks Marsha
There isn't really a hard rule about this. If there's no official name for the series, sometimes the first title is used, sometimes the main character, sometimes the setting (if the characters change from book to book.) Just use your best judgement; it can always be edited later.
I second what Scott said. I usually check the author's web site to see if he/she created a name for it, even informally. Then create a name based on the list Scott used. If you are uncomfortable just creating a name, feel free to use the notes or description fields on the series page to add more information.
