Combinatory play is the act of opening up one mental channel by dabbling in another. For example, Liz Gilbert took up drawing and Albert Einstein played the violin.

In the particular chapter that Liz discusses combinatory play, she also says, "Do something in order to bring yourself back into your own skin, in order to get out of your own head, and in order to reclaim some sense of bodily ease." You might think of it as procrastination, but with the right intention, it isn't.

When you're in a rut or just need to shake things up, what do you turn to get yourself back to where you need to be? What's something you do, creatively or non-creatively, to make you feel like yourself again, especially if it helps you get back into a good mental place?
