So did everyone enjoy the book?
I liked it. Scanned the recipes but that was about it there.
One thing that bothered me about our amateur sleuth was that she would board a boat, in the dark, with a near stranger. I thought that pretty risky esp. for a mom who's always cautioning her daughter about being careful, responsible. Just 'cause a man acts the good guy doesn't mean he is esp. on such short acquaintance.

I did enjoy the book and I've liked all the books in the series except one of the newer ones that was mostly flashbacks? I don't remember the title but I couldn't get into it. If a new one comes out I'll check it out though. I forgot to look at the recipes before I brought it back to the library.
I did enjoy the book as well, though I was a leetle disappointed in the ultimate culprit, Kenny, who did not figure hardly at all in the story up to that point. I do try to figure things out if I can, and that made it quite difficult. And I agree about all the great risks Clare took in the investigation. The only other book of the series I have read was the Christmas-oriented one we read a few years ago, and I don't remember her being so brave/stupid!

Mark- she definitely wasn't such a risk taker in the previous book we read. Either she learned her lesson or matured with age… Although I'm pretty sure she was the same age in this book. These heroines never seem to get any older. LOL
I also felt that Kenny as culprit was a bit lacking. Maybe mention him once or twice more so he's at least (as suggested by Nicole) on readers' radar.
However, I liked the story. Had no middle slump which keeps fans reading a book.

And about Madame's new friend...seems he came in strong only to fade off to nothing. Almost like the author had bigger plans for him and then found she didn't need his character after all. I mean, was he really necessary? Unless it was to bounce material off Clare.

True, Nicole. Kenny should've received that amt. of attention and the BF receive what Kenny got.

Good point as well, J. The hint of area history knowledge that went nowhere. Wonder what happened there? No huge issue; just left us wondering.

Seems Clare was correct in her theory that David was the intended victim all along..Graydon Fass and Kenny are arrested for their parts in the scheme and it is theorized that they will plead out and testify against Bom Felloes who isn't so "bon" after all.
Does Clare remind anyone of Jessica Fletcher- poking her nose into police investigations and solving the case on her own; thereby making the police look like fools?
On a side note has anyone checked out the recipes in the back of the book?
