Steven Bordeaux I have spent (or possibly wasted) an immense amount of my personal time (after reading the entire series in close succession a few months ago) pondering what will happen next, and I've come to the conclusion that the following plot points will occur:

1. Victarion Greyjoy (who I am starting to like, though he'd probably kill me as soon as look at me if we met in reality), will capture at least one, more likely two of the dragons with the dragon horn. With Dany gone, he'll cut his losses and head back to Westeros, with men dying by the dozen along they way as he forces them to blow the horn. Since Pyke is a long way off, and he's in no hurry to get the dragons to his hated brother Euron, he'll stop somewhere, maybe someplace like Dragonstone (which will be lightly defended by lannister forces), and take it and play "how to train your dragon" for a while.
2. Meanwhile, his brother Aeron will find some twisted way to dethrone Euron - likely killing him, and proclaiming Victarion King of the Iron Islands. It is possible that Euron may get the upper hand, killing Aeron and then getting the dragons from Victarion, using the betrayal of the dusky woman. But I'm thinking that Moqorro is a powerful ally and will work in Victarion's favor. My guess is that the dusky woman has a veneral disease that will kill Victarion in a short amount of time - but Moqorro could possibly counteract that. Note also that the toungeless beauty fears Moqorro.
3. Jon Snow's body is dead, but his consciousness wargs into Ghost (the direwolf) in its last second - much like the wildling in the prologue of ADWD. Unfortunately, we will be treated to a Ghost POV (being this novel's token boring POV). Will last the entire book until the end when Melisandre or someone else manages to put his consciousness back into his magically healed pretty boy body (ladies!).
4. After Kevan Lannister's murder (and Pycelle's - but really, he needed to die), King's Landing is thrown into a little bit of chaos. The Lord Oaf of Highgarden will try to make a play, but Cersei will have support from her Lannister cousins. The Septon will disapprove and everything will hinge on a trial by combat where the gods will judge whether Cersei is fit to rule as Queen Regent & Protector. In Cersei's corner, we have Ser Robert Strong (Qyburn smiles). In the Septon's (& the Tyrells) corner, we have a kick-butt knight character yet to be introduced. To our shock, the knight will defeat Strong (and reveal him to be a horrific hybrid of Gregor and Falyse - her head, his body - and possibly others), and not pull an Oberyn and get himself killed. The Septon passes the sentence on Cersei - death. Yeah! But what is that I hear? - the beat of dragon wings on the horizon...
5. Arya Horseface learns a bit more from her Many-Faced Obi Wan, in the runner up to the second most boring POV in this novel - but in an ending shocker, is sent to assassinate Danerys Targaryen!
6. Barristan's forces win the battle with Victarion's and others help. Tyrion and Jorah make their way into HOTQ Barristan's company, where Jorah is arrested and Tyrion is brought on as a trusted advisor - his news about Aegon is timely. Hidzar tries to escape and is killed - jerk. The Mereenese are pissed. They try to make a power play, but Tyrion helps Barristan figure out a way to stop them - and also the Unsullied probably have something to do with it too. (Ooh - Dream of Spring prediction - Penny is Tyrion's daughter by Tysha - or maybe some other whore - oh wait, Tyrion - I didn't meant to call her that...please...)
7. Dany must go backward to go forward - whatever the hell that means - oh wait - so she uses Drogon to barbecue Khal Jhago and his bloodriders and then takes command of the Khalassar, then she realizes that she has the forces to attack Westeros - finally. She does some soul searching - stay and be a mother to the people of Essos or Westeros - she can't rule both. She spends some mommy time with Drogon too. The leads her Khalassar back to Merreen. There she releases and forgives Jorah - but imprisons Tyrion - because, you know, Quaithe. She demostes Ser Barristan for losing her dragons. She don't need no fracking mummers dragon. Ships from Volantis arrive with self-freed slaves, ready to fight for the mother of Dragons. To Westeros!
8. Stannis defeats Ramsey's army, but Ramsey escapes. He takes Winterfell and sets up his command there. He finds out about Jon's murder - Bowen Marsh is elected Lord Commander. Mance Rayder appears and rescues Asha and Theon - from execution. But Stannis is not able to go north after them because, like more snow.
9. Melissandre disappears from the wall after Jon's killing. She may or may not adopt him as her new Wargy Dog friend. I certainly hope sex is out of the equation (oh wait, that's the show, not the book, sorry). I'm guessing she somehow brings him back with some kind of extra-super magic that can only be used once if you really mean it. Meanwhile, the wall is blasted by a storm like no other. The Other's have come...
10. Samwise, I mean Samwell, studies Wizardry at Westeros' Hogwarts. One or two POV's. Some magic. I'm feeing on of the Greyjoy's dragons burning down the city at the end.
11. Davos rescues Rickon - 1 POV.
12. Sansa becomes the lover of Littlefinger - ewwww. But then she changes her mind when he kills Sweetrobin and also meets a Ramsey-like Henry Hardyng - and flees with Robert's daughter.
13. Does Brienne lead Jamie to his death at the hands of Lady Stoneheart and the BWB? I'm not sure. I'll go with no and that she reveals that they need to rescue Poderick - and he agrees because he's so honorable now. But they get captured anyway. Jamie is pretty freaked out to see Zombie Cat. But does she have him executed? Maybe? Or maybe she holds Brienne hostage and sends Jamie to kill the man who was behind it all - Littlefinger.
14. Everyone is shocked when Aegon VI launches an attack on Storm's End and takes the city. The Tyrells dispatch a force to deal with it, leaving the city of King's Landing sparsely defended. But who would attack anyways? It's not like there are Greyjoy's riding dragons...oh crap...
15. Tree-Bran finds about more of the truth - about a girl who looks like Arya, who falls in love with a silver haired prince, who make a baby boy, who when his parents are killed is raised by...Ned Stark! WTF!

Iris There are some holes there that I just don't see happening. The biggest one being Sansa becoming Littlefinger's lover. His plan is to marry her off to some lordly boy of the North and then have the North rally behind her to finish what Rob started. Why would he risk that by deflowering her? And why would Sansa do that? I know that some people think she's stupid but she's not. She wouldn't willingly continuously screw Littlefinger, who she thinks is freaky and dangerous.

And I don't think that warg Jon Ghost will become Melisandre's puppy. Jon never liked/trusted her so why would he now? I think he'll stay North of the Wall and we'll see from his eyes the sheer mass of the enemy that's coming.

Mitali Interesting predictions. I agree with some, disagree with others. However, the following one needs to be addressed:

Steven wrote: "Ooh - Dream of Spring prediction - Penny is Tyrion's daughter by Tysha - or maybe some other whore"

Penny is 19 years old. Though it's hard not to think of Tyrion as Peter Dinklage (who is in his 40s), in the book he's actually in his mid-20s - around 26 or 27 in ADWD. No matter how young he was when he married Tysha, he definitely wasn't 7. ;)

Iris And I'm pretty sure Penny said that she knew her father, right?

Steven Bordeaux Ok, fine, I'm off on the Penny thing. I have to admit that the Sansa bit wasn't as well thought out either. But I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm even batting .500 on my predictions.

S.L.J. I'm really hoping Jon has survived and someone needs to kill Cersei.

Iris I'm really hoping Brienne doesn't cause the death of Jamie. I love Brienne and I hope she tells him what's really up, or saves him at the last minute (although that will probably result in her death...sigh)

Canadian Jen I'm hoping it comes out before season 5 begins!

Iris No luck there Jen. He's only about 180 pages into Winds of Winter. We've got a long way to go.

Jacob Iris wrote: "No luck there Jen. He's only about 180 pages into Winds of Winter. We've got a long way to go."
Really? He's had three years. What, does he write like a paragraph a day?

Lol probably. He says he's a very slow writer and a perfectionist to boot. We'll have this book in another three years is my guess...

Harini Can anybody guess what Vary's been upto? It din't quite sink in; the ending of 'TDWD'. I have been wondering why Varys does what he does since book #1 and am still doing the same.

Jacob Harini wrote: "Can anybody guess what Vary's been upto? It din't quite sink in; the ending of 'TDWD'. I have been wondering why Varys does what he does since book #1 and am still doing the same."

As far as I can tell, he's been trying to turn all the high-lords of Westeros against one-another, so that when Aegon is ready to seize power, they will be too weak and distracted to mount a proper defense.

Wasn't he the one who gave information about Danearys to Robert and the council, plotted to poison her? Why does he want only Aegon and not Danearys to rise to power?

Jasjit Singh Sincerely Hope GRRM dosent Kill himself in the epilogue of winds of winter. Need him to complete the series.

Regd. VARYS.. Always remember " I SERVE THE REALM LORD EDDARD"... he cares non for lineage. So better question here would be, who when becomes king helps prosper the realm the most?

Daniel Wusowski You really think anything Varys says is true? Obviously he does not care for his lineage, but I do not believe for a second, that he is devoted to the good of the realm... whatever that is.

Harini I hope GRRM creates a good back story to why Varys is everywhere and nowhere, does everything and nothing!

He definitely is not devoted to the good of the realm. He is playing, whatever game that is.

He isn't that slow. He seemed to be able to produce the first 3 masterpieces very quickly, while taking far too long to put out mediocre drivel. He apparently needs to speed things up a bit. We're so very obviously going to watch the conclusion of this series on television rather than reading it.

Unfortunately I expect the next book to be filled with descriptions of clothing and feasts, while the main characters twiddle their thumbs to decide what to do next. Tyrion will still be wondering where whores go and we'll be introduced to 14 new major characters and their plotlines while 8 previous characters die gruesome deaths. (4 of which will be resurrected to enact revenge on their tormenters.)

Hey, I liked A Feast For Crows... =(

Maybe he's just trying to figure out where/how the story will go. When he first started writing the series he was going to make it a trilogy, but the story became much more complex. So now he says eight books should wrap it up.

Oh I didn't hate A Feast for Crows or Dance---I liked a lot of it, but they they would have worked much better as one shorter book.

So now it's 8 books? I will truly be shocked if they are ever finished.

Matthew Daniel wrote: "You really think anything Varys says is true? Obviously he does not care for his lineage, but I do not believe for a second, that he is devoted to the good of the realm... whatever that is."

Indeed. If Varys cared "for the realm," he wouldn't have (view spoiler)

Lol me too.

Jonathan David Jon Snow will be the true king in the north!

There is a side of me that longs for him to be "the bad guy", like Arthas of the frozen throne. He will gather his army of walkers and head south and seek revenge for everyone and everything.
Little impossible but that would be really cool.... and cold. Oh.. and don't forget about the Ice Dragon! it was seldom mentioned in the books. But I see a great correlation here.

Kudos fellow Got and GRRM fans! Long live GRRM!

I just think a lot of characters are going to die.

message 25: by Ron (new) - rated it 1 star

Ron Scheer not sure i'll be reading the next book. I'm tired of becoming attached to characters that are offed on a whim. I'm tired of waiting for the author to finish his other projects. There are far too many good books out there to waste time wondering when, or even if there'll be another book in this series.

Jonathan David Yomarly wrote: "I just think a lot of characters are going to die."

that would be too tragic :/
