3) Was Jane a good Social Worker? Why or why not? Have you ever been in a situation where you had to balance (or choose) your emotions with doing your job?

Cindy | 522 comments Jane was a very good person, but not a good social worker for the time. I've never had a job where I had to fight for people like she did, but I can see that it could destroy you!

Pam | 218 comments I think about police officers - we see daily the wrong done to one person because of personal prejudices that have formed through experiences.

I couldn't do it, I would be totally depressed!

Chelsea | 562 comments She was not a good social worker. She would have made a great boys and girls club employee! :)

Overall I thought Jane did a pretty good job as a social worker. I would have done quite poorly, and not sure if I could have kept objectivity when doing that job. One has to have STRONG morals and ideas that would serve the families to their best benefit.

M.E. Hembroff (mhembroff) | 93 comments I am not sure that Jane was in the right job. She didn't have a thick enough skin and got to emotionally attached to her clients. I have never been in type of situation and doubt that I would be good at it. Jane did what she believed to be right. Some of her actions got her into deeper trouble with law.

Cindy | 522 comments My sister had a social work degree. She used to work the graveyard shift at a "halfway house" place where people lived who had been released from the mental hospital but weren't ready to live on their own yet. She used to tell us "funny" stories about the crazy things people did. It was funny, but I was always kind of horrified too. She said you just had to have that thick skin M.E. mentions or you'd be depressed all the time. After she left that job she never did that kind of work again. Kind of like Jane.
