Announcing Browse by Genre option for Giveaways!

Hi everyone — we’ve just launched a ‘browse by genre’ option for Giveaways (view here) and are excited to share the news with you!



So... what is it?

Goodreads members who enter giveaways can now filter giveaways by the genres they’re most interested in, making it easier to find books they’d be delighted to win. The genres are chosen when authors and publishers create giveaways. They can choose up to two genres they’d like to have their giveaway to be listed for.

It's a good idea. However, there are currently no genre listings for literary, urban, or African-American, so I'm stuck simply in "fiction," which is pretty broad.

If you're not seeing a particular genre listed, it's because a current live giveaway doesn't exist under that genre name yet. The genres are chosen when authors and publishers create giveaways (they can choose up to two genres they’d like to have their giveaway to be listed for).

That made me hopeful, but I've gone in to edit a giveaway that hasn't started yet. The only way that I can see to select a genre (and you can pick two, a primary and a secondary) is through a dropdown menu. The menu does not have options for literary, urban, or African-American.

Hi Paul! My apologies, it seems I didn't fully grasp what you were referring to; I see now what you mean. Yes, those options you mentioned don't currently feature in the drop-down lists. I've passed your request to add those genres on to our developers for consideration.

Hi again, Paul! I've been chatting to our developers and, in regard to the available giveaway genres, we use the standard Goodreads list of genres. For example, the same ones that users can select as their favorites. There has been talk about updating the genre list eventually; however, this is not within our immediate timeline.
