Krissy, what do like? All paranormal? Vampires, Shifters, Gods, Witches? Do you prefer more romance or more story? Do you prefer stand alone or series?

message 3: by Krissy (new)

Krissy | 3 comments Romance or story are both fine with me. I like both, but I prefer it to be balanced. Not there just to be there. I like witches and a little bit of everything. :)

message 4: by D. (new)

D. Fischer My first book series (and I have reread it so many times, it a little ridiculous) that I fell in love with was Connie Suttle books - beginning with Blood Destiny. That has a little of everything, and it's captivating.

Robin (robinpickell) | 1138 comments Well, I would recommend checking out Dana Marie Bell, she has books/series covering different themes in paranormal (a few shifter, 1 fae, 1 gods, 1 witches/wizards/warlocks, and paranormal city (mainly dryads & vampires). I should tell you a few are menage & M/M, but I don't know where you stand.

If you want to go for something longer, Dana Marie Bell tends to be more along the novella series (and they're really funny) I would suggest checking out Yasmine Galenorn's Otherworld series. Alanea Alder also has a diverse paranormal series, which I highly recommend. Although her Kindred series is menage/MM as well, but not her B&B series. I also find her funny & love her fandom comments, so if you're a fan of a lot of sci-fi, gaming, anime, manga, you might want to check her out.

Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken also has a couple of series in different paranormal themes. I also find her book hilarious.

These though are my go to authors and series, but I do have a couple of odd recommendations for you. Have you tried the game section? I don't know about others, but I tend to post books I have read or considered reading (and I have found a few books I didn't think of before when other people play them) paranormal title twist. Plus check out some of the people who post on there, like Jen, they always have good books to read, they upset my TBR list (≧∇≦)/

Plus, we sometimes have reading challenges, join up. People post books that have read, as well as books they are considering for their challenges.

Good Luck.

Andrew Ahn | 2 comments Outside of my own which is mostly ghost stories (cuz us Indies gotta push whenever we get a chance);

An author I don't see here (maybe cuz its UF disguised with aliens) is Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles Which to me has a good balance of story and romance. Also the main character is witchy. So it hits some of your wants.

Krissy | 3 comments Thanks for all the recs! I plan to start checking some of them out. :)

message 8: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (ucdlindsey) Ok, if you are new to the genre I have to recommend what I think are some UF series you can't miss for you to try. :) There are many more but these are some big ones.

Kate Daniels: Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews

Mercy Thompson: Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

October Daye: Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 67 comments For PNR it's hard to beat Nalini Singh's Psy-Changling series or her Guild Hunter series.

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh

message 11: by Michele (new)

Michele Thanks Krissy for asking this question - it's something I was wondering myself. I'm reading a lot of Hamilton's Anita Blake series right now, and was looking to other authors to check out.

Deborah Ferguson | 1 comments I enjoy Jim Butcher's Dresden series. Also recently been telling people about the BLACK CITY SAINT series, of which there are two so far. Prohibition Chicago, elves, magic, and more, all revolving around Nick Medea, who used to be St. George (and yes, there's even the dragon). Some fascinating supporting characters, like Fetch.
Black City Saint by Richard A. Knaak
Black City Demon by Richard A. Knaak

Amyiw | 177 comments I'm going to second some of these
Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs and also the spin off series, Alpha and Omega (Alpha & Omega, #0.5) by Patricia Briggs Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews though the first book starts so slowly... one of their other series seems to start better. Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews . Still the first series usually becomes a favorite if you read past book 2.
Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh romance with a great UF over arc. Great writer. Gets better as it goes too.

and add series, because they are all humorous.
Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark #2) by Kresley Cole A Demon Bound (Imp, #1) by Debra Dunbar

DASL Writer (daslwrites) | 6 comments Hi,

These are the books I started out with when I was a beginner:

Stolen by Kelley Armstrong

Anything Written by Christine Warren like Big Bad Wolf

And here's an odd one, The Alien Series by Gini Koch such as Touched by an Alien is actually a paranormal/sci-fi mash-up that I learned to adore.

My own writing was inspired by these books above, if you'd like to check out my short story it's here: Stolen by the Ash: A Fox Shifters Short Story

Amyiw | 177 comments I think we missed recommending Immortals After Dark
A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (Immortals After Dark, #4) by Kresley Cole Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Immortals After Dark, #5) by Kresley Cole Dark Desires After Dusk (Immortals After Dark, #6) by Kresley Cole Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #7) by Kresley Cole Untouchable (Immortals After Dark #8) by Kresley Cole Pleasure of a Dark Prince (Immortals After Dark, #9) by Kresley Cole Demon from the Dark (Immortals After Dark, #10) by Kresley Cole Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Immortals After Dark, #11) by Kresley Cole Lothaire (Immortals After Dark, #12) by Kresley Cole Shadow's Claim (Immortals After Dark, #13; The Dacians, #1) by Kresley Cole MacRieve (Immortals After Dark, #14) by Kresley Cole Dark Skye (Immortals After Dark, #15) by Kresley Cole Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark, #16) by Kresley Cole Shadow's Seduction (Immortals After Dark, #17; The Dacians, #2) by Kresley Cole Wicked Abyss (Immortals After Dark, #18) by Kresley Cole Munro (Immortals After Dark, #19) by Kresley Cole

I leave out the first novella because I didn't like it much and is understood explained enough in the next books. Really the first 10 or so books can be read out of order with little issue.

Aurora Moore (symmesuegirl) | 1 comments I crossed over into this genre about ten years ago after reading the twilight series. The first ones I read were:
the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
Argeneau vampires by Lynsay Sands
Immortals after dark by Kresley Cole
Broken heart Oklahoma by Michelle Bardsley
Love at Stake by Kerrelyn Sparks

I also read pretty much anything by Katie MacAlister and Laurann Dohner.
