Very edge of your seat read, and not your typical zombie apocalypse story. Today I just started The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker. Dark, honest, and humorous so far.

I'm almost finished with Sons and Daughters of Ease and Plenty (which is lovely, btw), and just before that I spent the better part of two months reading 1Q84. It was terrific, but long - looking for a challenge to get my book/reading goals back on track!

Oh, An Abundance of Katherine's! That is a good one. I may suggest it to my 9th grade son for his summer reading project. Any other suggestions welcome. The only thing he really likes to read are things like World Fact Book and the Flag Encyclopedia. Teacher said he can't use those since they don't have things like plot or character. Non-fiction is allowed, though.

Diane Brown | 41 comments When my son was in the 9th grade, he enjoyed the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. (I actually enjoyed it too). However, there are lots of battles and some of it is pretty violent.

Marjorie | 4 comments I just finished reading another great book called "Quiet Until The Thaw" by Alexandra Fuller. Very good read with some Native American thought and self reflection. Quick easy summer read. Great author.

Marjorie | 4 comments I just began reading the first book by Alexandra Fuller called "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood". It is very good. She is an outstanding author. She grew up in Africa with her parents and two sisters. The country was in war.

Marjorie-that is one of my all time favorite books! I read it at least 10 years ago and it makes me laugh to just think about it!
