Agree that sometimes we need to be in the right frame of mind for a certain book.
I did not see the movie and I don't think I was with the book long enough to be emotionally engaged. I was just bored from the beginning. I still think I'll eventually give it another try so I can really get into the heart of the story and see if it grabs me.I just looked at my notes on this and it looks like it took me two weeks to read the first 64 pages (18%) in 2015 before I put it aside. I purchased it on Audible earlier this year to see if I'd have better luck with the audio, but forgot about it.

I started this one a long time ago, but put it aside and never picked it up again. I hope to try again next month.
I purchased this book a couple of years ago and it’s been sitting on my TO BE READ shelve until today. I’m ready to get into it starting June 1st.
Looking forward to this one! It's one of the very first books I eveer picked up when I discovered Street Libraries in my area and I've had it on my TBR since. Good excuse to dust it off :)
this is so strange . most of us have had this one on our tbr for a very long time. Maybe it's spring cleaning time.
Getting started - 8% of the way in. This might not be a fast read but it is definitely capturing my interest!
I read this for an in-person book club a few years ago and people were very split on their opinions. I'm curious to see what everyone thinks! I didn't love the book but I remember it being a wonderful discussion
I really enjoyed this book, but am I the only one who was really annoyed with Isabel and how she treated Tom?
I’m now 70% of the way in. It’s been a slow build….but now at a point where I could just sit and read until the end. It has become suspenseful for me! I see it’s been made into a movie, which I haven’t seen, but can see where the scenery and plot would make a great movie.
I have finished. This book is a slow build, but what a second half and ending. Ultimately, a book about the depths of love of a husband and wife, and parents for their child. Brought me to tears.
I can also see how this would have been made into a movie. Never saw the movie but I am imagining beautiful scenery and an emotional build.
I reckon this would be a fantastic book club read. There would be no shortage of opinions about what you might do, what you might expect of your partner, and how you'd maintain some semblance of sanity making choices and dealing with the situation.I read it a few years ago but remember the dilemma so well. I haven't seen the film, but I did review the book.
My review

I saw the movie too. Scenically beautiful but lost the depth of characterisation and definitely slow as you said, Maggie. Not a patch on the book.
