This is the UK to US system. I don't know if the Australian one is the same.
Pre-school (2-4)
Primary school
Reception (ages 4-5)
Year 1 (5-6) - Kindergarten (or something, idk?)
Year 2 (6-7) - 1st Grade
Year 3 (7-8) - 2nd Grade
Year 4 (8-9) - 3rd Grade
Year 5 (9-10) - 4th Grade
Year 6 (10-11) - 5th Grade
Secondary school
Year 7 (11-12) - 6th Grade
Year 8 (12-13) - 7th Grade
Year 9 (13-14) - 8th Grade
Year 10 (14-15) - 9th Grade
Year 11 (15-16) - I forget the name of these. Sophomores, or jumiors or whatever. I don't know. You guys are weird.
6th Form College
Year 12 (16-17) - I forget.
Year 13 (17-18) - Seniors, or something??
End of compulsary education, but you can go to university for 3/4 years, if you're clever/rich.

Is the age you've put, the age you are when you start that year of schooling (like in September, or whenever you go back after your summer holidays), or the age you turn during the school year?
So do you only have to be in education until you're 17?

Ah, yeah, we do the same - I think. The 1998 people are just about to go into year 13, when we go back in September.
