Marta | 8 comments My mom read the book about 20 or 30 years ago. All she can remember is that the main character is not a professional detective, but tends to stumble upon crimes and solves them. In this particular story, her husband goes fishing, but when he doesn't return home when he is expected, the woman realizes that he is missing. He has been kidnapped and the kidnapper has hidden him around a popular stone formation outside of Fredricksburg, TX called "Enchanted Rock". Mom thinks the author is a woman. Thanks!

Marta, please add some plot details to your header which could help your query get solved faster. If you are unable, a mod can help.

Is this a standalone, or part of a series?

Marta | 8 comments According to my mom, it appears to be part of series. The woman and her cousin seem to get into trouble solving mysteries.

Mary Daheim has a series with 2 cousins who stumble into mysteries. Legs Benedict is one of the books in that series. I know this one isn't what you are looking for, but the 2 tend to go on vacations (once all the way to England) and find trouble wherever they go. So it's possible that this series (or possibly one of Daheim's other series contains the book that your Mum read. (And I know that the 2 cousins husbands are both crazy about fishing, which is another reason that I thought of this series.)

Home Again, Home Again (1997) by Susan Rogers Cooper seems to match your description.

One Amazon reviewer says, "In the small Texas town of Black Cat Ridge lives the Pugh family consisting of the rational and even-tempered Willis, romance novelist and part-time sleuth EJ, and their three children and three cats. Usually, it is EJ who lands in the middle of trouble as she investigates a homicide... As the family patriarch nears his fortieth birthday, [Willis] wonders about the meaning of his life. Acting totally out of character, Willis insists on climbing Enchanted Rock... Willis and his business partner go camping near Enchanted Rock, but Willis fails to return home... Willis is being held hostage by..."

Heather | 183 comments For those of you not familiar with Enchanted Rock, here's a link for info on it. http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/enc... The first time I went there, it was still privately owned. Beautiful, beautiful place with lots of history, too!

Marta | 8 comments Kris, that's the book! I told my mom and she confirmed it! How do I shelve the book now? Thanks for everyone's replies! I tried to reply earlier, but I wasn't able to do so on my Kindle for some reason.
