☼ Summer Break ☼ {Semi-Advanced RP} discussion
((I'm going to write one to Tiffany Alvord, and then one to John Green))
"Ah, so that's why you didn't drop dead from seeing my gorgeous face when I first walked out her because you simply couldn't see it," Eleanor said in a joking tone after a long and uncomfortable pause. She would be lying if she said she wasn't surprised, I mean, it's not every day you randomly bump into a blind girl who fakes being able to see. And if that is your normally day then you might want to rethink your life. Eleanor wasn't really all that upset about the whole blind thing. Sure, it might slow down their walking pace and thereby might slow down the time until she could stuff as much cotton candy into her mouth as possible, but sometimes sacrifices had to be made.
Ivy was definitely surprised that Fate was blind, but she understood why she didn't say anything about it. She didn't want to be judged and Ivy understood that perfectly. "I could see your face and I didn't drop dead," she joked, looking at Eleanor and trying to lighten the mood a bit. She turned to Fate then and smiled at her softly, "It's okay, really it is, there is nothing wrong with being blind."
Fate smiled, "I just hate being treated differently..." She waved her hand as if brushing it off, and puts on her sunglasses. "Let's go! Admissions are paid for right? Because the invite said all admissions..." She gave a small smile, and slung her bag on her shoulder. "We are leaving now... correct?" She gives a small giggle, bouncing. She'd at least worn some decent shoes, and would hopefully had fun. (view spoiler) She almost burst with joy at the idea that she might have just made some friends.
((Sorry! I had a softball practice I had to go to. I guess we can just start at the carnival if you guys want?))
Colton walked ouside with a plate of hamburgers in his arms. He walked over to the grill and turned it on and placed the hamburgers and hamburger buns on the table next to him. After he had the grill running for a couple minutes he placed some of the hamburgers on the grill to let them cook. Why am I even apart of the luau," he thought to himself. Colton started thinking about last night with Charity and how they kissed. He shook his head and sighed, putting attention back over to the grill with the hamburgers on it. He took his spatula and started flipping the burgers over on the other side to allow them to cook. He was wearing blue swim trunks with no shirt on. Colton looked over to see if there were any people up yet. Looks like he was the only one awake. Good thing he starting cooking the hamburgers early so he put them aside for later on.
Ivy came out to the pool quietly. She was barefoot and was wearing a blue sun dress with her bikini underneath. She saw a guy that she didn't know cooking burgers already and she smiled a bit at him, sitting down in a lounge chair with her sketch book, as always. She only knew Fate and Eleanor here and she was extremely shy around new people, so she didn't say anything to him.
Colton looked at the corner of his eyes and noticed a girl walking outside and sat down in a lounge chair. He could tell that she was looking at him. He flipped the burgers again, listening to it sizzle. He then turned and faced the girl and raised his eyebrow. "Why don't you go and make yourself useful and get some drinks or something and put them out on the table?" He said and turned back around and continued flipping the burgers. Colton wasn't really the type of guy to be nice to other people. He could really care less to what her reaction was going to be to a stranger telling her what to do. He didn't care if she was going to give him some attitude back, or do what he says and get the drinks. He itched the back of his head and closed the cover to the grill to allow them to cook. "Second thought, Can you watch the burgers so I can go and take a shower?" He asked, walking over to her and handed her his spatula, Colton wasn't a shy guy, he would say and do anything to a complete stranger. The only thing that made people hate him so much was his uncaring attitude.
"I...I..." was all that Ivy got a chance to say as he slapped the spatula into her hand and left. She wasn't a social person, in fact she was very guarded and reserved, but she thought that it was just rude that he hadn't even given her so much as a hello or told we his name. She would have let the burgers burn just to bug him, but she knew that if she did, none of them would be eating. Then again, she had no clue how to tell when burgers were done, so they might be under done when she took them off and she might accidentally give everyone food poisoning. Either way, she knew that this couldn't end well and she hoped that guy hurried up and came back.
Colton raised his eyebrow when she couldn't say anything. He shook his head and turned around and walked into the house. "Don't burn them!" He shouted at her with his back turned as he made his way into the house. Colton walked into one of the bathrooms and turned on the shower, He put his hand under the running water, adjusting the hot and cold dial until he got the temperature that he wanted. Colton undressed and tossed his swimming trunks on the ground, hopping into the shower. He took the bar of soap and washed off his body. He turned the shower off when he was finished and grabbed the towel on the rack next to the shower and brought it in the shower with him, he wrapping his dripping wet body, around the towel. Colton dyed himself off in the shower and once he was dry enough he opened the curtains, stepping out of the tub. He put the towel on his head, rubbed his wet hair to make it dry. Once he finished rubbing his hair with the towel, his hair spiked up. Colton dropped the towel on the ground and put his blue swimming trunks back on. "That girl better not be burning the burgers," He said to himself while looking at his face in the mirror. He took out his tooth brush and began brushing his teeth, When he finished he put his tooth brush back in his little baggy and walked it up to his room. When Colton was completely finished he walked back down stairs and out the sliding door to the backyard. "You didn't burn them did you?" He asked with his eyebrow raised.
"I might have, I seriously hope not," she said, lifting the grill cover up. They were slightly burnt, but not too badly, they were still easily edible. "Well, I guess that'll teach you not to leave me alone with food, or anything that can be ruined," she said, getting them off the grill before they burned any more. She set them in a plate, stacking them in a nice and neat tower for him. She noticed that he'd spiked his hair a bit and she rolled her eyes a bit. It bugged her when guys obsessed over their hair, but she did have to admit that it looked good.
Colton looked at the burgers and sighed. "Looks like some of us will be eating charcoal," He teased and watched her stack up the hamburgers. He crossed his thick arms around his chest, watching her stack them. "You know, They could fall down if you stack them like that," he told her and walked over to the plate and unstacked them. "I'm going to go and get some more burgers and hotdogs. Can you help me carry some things out?" He asked. This was odd.. Colton never asked for help.. not from anyone before. He sighed and regretted asking her for help. He didn't feel like having small talk with this girl about stuff that wasn't important. But, after all it was a party that the whole house of people were attending. So, he might as well get over it.
"Yeah, sure," she said, following him into the house. She wasn't sure where everyone else was, but she didn't really mind it being just the two of them. She hated large groups of people and planned on going and hiding in her room when things got too loud and there were too many people. It kind of defeated the purpose of even attending the party, but she figured that she might as well go. She grabbed a package of burgers and a package of hot dogs and looked up at him, "So, are you ever going to tell me your name?" she asked him, "I'm Ivy, but a seriously doubt that you even care." She didn't think that he was the type of person that would.
Colton grabbed some packages of hotdogs and burgers and piled them up in his arms, walking back outside. He placed the packages down on the table next to the grill and sighed. Not knowing if he was going to tell her his name or not. Again, the small talk that he didn't really like. But, he also knew he needed to deal with it for today. "Colton," He told her, without looking at her. He just ripped opened the packages of hotdogs and burgers. Colton put his head up and saw some girl sitting by the pool. "When in the hell did she get there.. How did she even get past us without me noticing.." He thought to himself. He narrowed his eyes at her. Annoyed that he was doing all the work and he needed to ask this random girl for help. He let out an annoyed sigh. and looked back over to the girl whom he forgot her name even though she told him. "Hey, Want to see if she can help cook or something? If she can.." He asked Ivy, He gave her a "I know you cant cook but maybe she can" kinda look.
Ivy didn't like how rude he was being to her, and she knew that he didn't have to take it. She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him just slightly. "You forced me into helping you and now you don't even want me?" she said, kind of pissed off with him at the moment. She sighed though and looked at the girl, "Want to help?" she asked, almost hoping that see day no so that Connor would be stuck with her, especially since he didn't want her.
Colton looked up at her, when he saw in the corner of his eyes that she was giving him a look. He actually thought he was being pretty nice to her.. Maybe he should try harder.. He thought to himself. "You know, I'm not asking you to stop helping, Im asking you to ask her if she can help, If you would like you can do something like get a cooler and bring out some drinks.." He said. He was completely disgusted with himself.. Trying to act all nice. He hated that. But, the party wasn't gong to prepare its self so he needed to let it go. Colton opened up the grill when she when over to go and ask the girl if she wanted to help. He placed the hotdogs onto the grill, When he was finished he closed the grill and walked into the house to grab a bottle of beer in the fridge. He walked back outside and opened up the bottle and took a sip of it and set it down on the table and upend up the grill and moved the hotdogs around with some tongs.
Ivy grabbed a beer for herself, and opened it, taking a sip. She was happy that Connor had finally said setting nice to her, but he seemed upset for even doing it. "I don't know, do you want to go and grab some chips and dip from the kitchen?" she asked the girl, who's name that she still didn't know. "And what do you want me to do?" she asked Connor.
After debating on what to wear, Vee comes out to with a long dress that was open from both sides, coming up to her knees. The color was mint green like the ends of her hair. Under neath she wore her two piece aqua blue bikini for when she swims. Her sunglasses were brought up from her eyes and resting on her head as she takes in the clean water of the pool and the clear blue sky. Her multi colored hair was down and blown by the small breeze. The smell of hamburgers coming to her nostrils. She see that others are here, but non that he knew.
(view spoiler)
Colton flipped the hot dogs on the other side, while taking a knife and cutting them opened a bit so they can cook all the way through. He then closed the grill and walked over to the table and sat down while taking another sip of his beer. "I said, You can go get some drinks from the kitchen and put them in the cooler, Oh, make sure you stock the cooler with ice first," He told her while leaning his arm on the chair, while his other hand holding the beer. He gradually kept on taking little sips before getting back up the check on the hotdogs. He then started thinking about Charity. Was she still sleeping? Or was so too embarrassed to come downstairs and see him? He probably knew she wasn't embarrassed, She had to be still sleeping.
Ivy went and got the drinks and and stocked them in the cooler with the ice. She walked back over to him and took another sip of beer , leaning on her elbow and she sized him up. "What are you thinking about?" she asked him, seeing him clearly lost in thought.
Fate walked outside, wearing a small sun dress over a swimming suit. (view spoiler) She didn't plan on swimming, but figured this was her best bet to avoid crowds of people. She knew the house would be packed. When Fate heard Ivy's voice, she smiled and gave a nod. "Hey Ivy." She walked over to a chair and sat down. She didn't like parties. Or people. Or parties that involved people. Instead, she took out her writing stuff, slate, paper, anything she used, and started writing her school paper. Again. The last time she attempted to write her paper, she left it at Starbucks. Fate wouldn't forget it this time. She needed to get the extra credit for it. There went her summer.
"Hey there Sightless," she said, relieved that she'd shown up, "This is Connor," she said, even though she couldn't see him." She would have offered her a beer, but she was still a bit too young for it in Ivy's opinion. She turned to the girl and smiled a bit, "Just on the table over there is good," she said.
Colton looked over at Ivy and raised his eyebrow. He wasn't obligated to tell her anything. When the girl came back with some chips and dip he found his opportunity to ignore her question and answered the girl that was just standing there awkwardly. You can set them on the table," He told her. Colton opened the grill back up and began taking the hotdogs off the grill and onto the large plate that he brought out earlier today. One by one, he grabbed the hotdogs with the tongs. When he grabbed the last hotdog on the grill he moved his hand over to put it on the plate. But, the hotdog slipped out from the tongs grasp and onto the ground. Colton raised his eyebrow and smirked to himself. " Well, that wasn't expected, but, also a good way to stall on answering Ivy's question.." He said to himself. Colton looked up at Ivy and gave her an annoyed look. "My name is not Conner, Its Colton," he said and looked and leaned down and picked up the hotdog that had fallen to the ground.
Fate grinned at the nickname. "We just need Eleanor! Then we'll have all three of us. Wise-y, am I correct?" When she found there were others here, she gave a nod looking down, "Hello Coulton." She went quiet after that. She hated trying to talk to people she didn't know. She looked up at where the heat was, and the grill must have been. "How many people were invited here?" She could almost feel the tension growing inside her, and the worry. There was probably a lot of people here. That scared her to bits. She cleared her throat, and then said in a voice slightly above a whisper. "I'm Fate." She hated talking to people, much less guys. She looked down at her work. "Can anyone explain why we're having a party anyway?"
Colton looked over at the girl and tilted his head. Was she blind? He then shook his head and started putting the other package of hamburgers on the grill. "As many people are in this house are coming," he said, his body not facing her. He slapped the patties on the grill and sighed. "Am I just going to be spongebob for this whole party?" He said out loud to himself. Colton shut the grill and walked over to the table and sat down. When he sat down he made a grunting sound. He grabbed his bottle of beer and chugged it all down. He placed the empty bottle on the table and looked up at the sky, thinking about.. Things.
Vee sighs, feeling slightly alone. But that was because she doesn't know anyone. She wishes Dante was here. She hadn't seen nor heard from him since they met at Starbucks. I hope i didn't freak him out by asking him about how he's gay she thinks to herself miserably. She just thought it was cute. Hopefully he'll come. She walks around to get a drink.
Ivy frowned, "I'll be right back," she said to Fate, taking her beer and sitting across from him. She sipped it slowly and looked at him, "You know, if you keep sulking, someone is bound to ask you what's wrong," she said, taking another sip of beer, "But, that isn't going to be me." She understood him enough to know that he didn't want people messing in his business, and she was exactly the same way. She would leave him alone if he tried to push her away, but she'd listen to him if he would talk to her.
Colton looked at his bottle and noticed it was empty. "I'm going to grab another beer," He told Ivy and stood up and walked over to the cooler and pulled another beer out. He tossed his empty on in the recycling can and walked back over to the grill and opened it back up, checking on the burgers. He looked over at Ivy and noticed that she was still sitting there. "I'm not sulking, I just have a lot on my mind," He managed to tell her. He grabbed his spatula and flipped the burgers over on the other side.
Ivy nodded, finishing off her beer and deciding not to go for another one just yet. She didn't plan on getting drunk tonight, or ever for that matter. She wasn't that kind of person. "Alright, that's fine by me," she said, respecting that completely, but he hasn't pushed her away, so she decided not to leave him on his own just yet. "Just a word of advice, do something to help you forget about it or make it less noticeable that something is bothering you if you don't want people to ask about it."
Colton narrowed his eyes as Ivy gave him some advice. He shut the cover to the grill, More forcefully this time then the last. "Look, I know your trying to help, But don't you think I've tried that before? You can just can't forget something that happened tragically. Its li-," He stopped himself before he told her too much about himself. He ran his fingers through his hair. He turned around to a familiar voice and saw Charity there. Thank god. Someone he knew was there. Colton walked over to the cooler and pulled out a beer for Charity. "Here," he said while handing it over to her. "Did you sleep okay?" he asked her. Colton turned and faced the grill and opened it. He took the burgers off and placed them on the large plate with the rest of the hotdogs and burgers. He bent down and turned the knob on the grill, turning it off. He took the brush and scraped off the remises of him cooking on it. He then shut the grill and walked over to his chair, sitting down he picked up his beer and took another sip.
Vee stopped t the cooler and saw the beer. should i? she asks herself. She never had it before and never really planed on having it. But it was a party and a little wouldn't hurt. Plus getting drunk would make her lose control of herself and do something she wouldn't like. She took one, the coldness of the drink making her smile a little. She takes it back to a spot where she stood near the pool, across from everyone else. She slowly brings it up to her lips and takes a small sip. not what i was hoping for... But its alright.
Ivy put up her hands in surrender, knowing that she was only frustrating him. "Okay, okay, forget I said anything. Trust, me, I know when I'm not wanted," she said, meaning every word of it. She'd made a friend or two here, but she was pretty sure that they didn't really like her. She didn't want to make friends exactly, but she couldn't stop herself from talking to him. She saw the girl that he'd spoken to and she understood. He was all freaked out over her for whatever reason, and she really didn't want to know, but at the same time, she did. She wished that she had someone to be stressing out about her. Someone who could like her at all.
Fate gave a small smile, looking at the pool "I think I might head in early, just so you know Ivy. Parties aren't my thing. So I'll leave earlier." She wanted to head back to her room, and would. She just hoped Ivy wouldn't mind. She could stay if Ivy wanted her, but she wasn't one for people. As most everyone could see from the expression on her face. People made her nervous.
She could smell and hear so much. The pool, the grill, people. She was working so hard to sort out the different smells. Being blind was hard. And Fate made it harder by wearing sunglasses all the time. She faked sight. it help, and worsened her dilemma. At the thought of her sunglasses, she pushes them up father. Making sure they were tightly on. She wanted to be with friends, not random people. Maybe she'd blend in. Or be noticed. Honestly, she wasn't quite sure what she wanted anymore. Friends or Alone? Party or Room? Her head was spinning. "Ivy? Could I have something to drink?"
"Yeah, sure Sightless," she said, happy to be getting away from the tense situation with Colton for a moment. She went and got Fate a drink from the cooler and opened it for her before handing it to her, figuring that it would be easier for her that way. She took her seat again, across from Colton, realizing that she hadn't been able to avoid the situation for long. She just wanted to go back inside to her room. There were too many people here now and it was too loud. She just wanted to be by herself.
Fate smiled and thanked Ivy. She sips the drink, letting her mind sail off. She almost, in the seconds time, asked Ivy how many people were there. But that'd be literally yelling out that she's blind. She went back to working on her paper, listening to others. It seemed most everyone was shy or quiet. Fate debated once again with her opinion. She liked, and disliked it. She instead slowly walked to the edge of the pool. This was one of her moments that she was afraid of falling in and dying. She sat next to Etain, and dangled her feet in the water. She blushed, hearing, and feeling the disruption in the water. Fate always thought things like that were a big deal. They weren't no one ever noticed. She looked at the girl. "Hi. I'm Fate."
Vee looks around. Already she was board. She wanted to laugh and talk and make nee friends, it was the reason she cam here. But she didn't know if she should just go up to someone. Looking around to the people she never saw before she decides to go to Etain. She looked lonely. She walks up to her and with a sweet and warm smile, something she always have, she says. "Hey, I'm Vee" she still had the beer in her hand but still didn't take another drink yet.
"Etain, thats a nice name" she tries it and tells her what she thinks about it. Looking at the spot next to her at the edge of the pool then back to her. "Mind if i join you?" She asks first before even making a move. She wouldn't want to bother her if she wanted to be alone. It would be rude of her.
Colton looked over at Ivy and sighed. He knew that she looked a little sad and frightened when he snapped at her. He didn't know what to say or do. He wasn't really known for apologies. For god sakes he didn't even apologize to Charity when he left her at the beach all alone. He placed his elbows on the table and leaned forward, while clearing his throat. "I'm sorry I snapped at you, I just simply don't like talking about my past," he explained to her while taking another sip of his beer. After he was halfway done with his second beer Colton felt a little buzz from having drinking a lot of alcohol. He ignored the feelings, because he was use to it and just acted like his normal, heartless self. Colton ran his fingers through his hair and looked over at the girls next to the pool. "So, what's with your friend? Is she blind or something?" He asked, knowing that she called her sightless. If couldn't be her just calling her that for no reason, unless, she was a klutz and always run into thing.
Ivy bit her lip, deciding to that him for some reason. He had apologized to her after all, and he had done it gently, which she knew must have been hard for him since he seemed so cold. It made her smile a bit because it made her feel like he at least valued her for some reason. "Yeah... she's blind, but please don't tell anyone. She doesn't like to let people know about it," she said softly, "And I'm not calling her sightless to be mean or anything, it's a nickname our friend Eleanor created for her. She's sightless, I'm wise girl and Eleanor likes to be called 'beautiful one who makes the earth spin' or something like that..." She forced herself to shut up about herself, reminding herself that he didn't care in the least bit. She but her lip and looked down at the ground.
Colton shook his head and chuckled a bit. "Well, that's an interesting nickname," he said about her other friend. He leaned back in his chair and grabbed his beer and finished it off. He placed the empty bottle on the table in front of him. "So, how is she writing a paper? Did she always use to be blind?" He asked her. He knew that he could have asked her himself, but he didn't want to frighten the girl, knowing from earlier her face expression looked like she was terrified. He knew that look, and he didn't want to scare her. He stood up and walked over and grabbed some paper plates and set them down next to the pile of hot dogs and hamburgers. "Hey! The food is ready! Everyone come and get it before it gets cold!!" He shouted so everyone near the pool can hear him.
