Question related to book promotion

Hi

I'm looking to start offering talks / workshops related to my books. Has anyone offered book talks / workshops? Can you offer any tips or resources to help me prior to making any calls.

Also do you charge for your talk or only earn from book sales?

One of my goals in writing my book about OT is to be able to improve my chances to secure paid situations for offering motivational talks. I have given some talks in the past, but was often told I need a book before they will have me come in as a speaker. Now that I am networking about giving talks, I'm hearing you can't earn with book talks.

It's rather confusing. So I decided to gather some info via GoodReads.

If you can suggest another group that might have ideas to share, please let me know.

Hi Shoshanah, I would strongly suggest you don't charge for the talk. What you want is to get as many people at the talk as you can, and unless you are really famous, at least locally, a price tag will put some off. I have no idea whether talks lead to book sales, but my experience is thin. Admittedly, I haven't done many. I did give a talk to a bunch of amateur and professional astronomers on my ebook "Planetary Formation and Biogenesis" and they were all enthusiastic about the ideas, but sales were depressingly low. By all means give the talk, and good luck when you do, but don't expect too much.
