GENEVIEVE EVANS![]()
![]()
twenty-one lifeguard / old bisexual
this is gen's third summer working here in order to try to pay the bills. sure, being a lifeguard in the summer heat isn't the best job in the world, but she gets by, and she's learned not to mind it too much. maybe in the future, better things can come, but for now, she's just looking to get paid.

NADIA DAHAM![]()
twenty-eight pilates instructor old staff
nadia has been working here for a few years now as a pilates instructor, and though surely, she could get plenty of better jobs somewhere else, she's okay where she is right now (mainly just glad not to be involved in the much too recent scandal and keep her job), teaching multiple classes a day. besides, she's just thankful to be able to be inside during the much too warm summer days.

× WOO · JI-YEON ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━ 24 ⇴ femme ⇴ straight ⇴ new receptionistji-yeon has been at El Castillo Resort for all of a few weeks and she already knows this place is shitty. It's full of stuffy rich people and snobbish teens who have too much free-time. But at least it's a distraction from the fact that her would-have-been-fiancé decided to cheat on her two months after proposing. Yeah, that was the icing on top of the cake after her parents disowned her for getting engaged to the dick-head and after she lost the ability to pay for her education. Just wonderful, right?
anyways, Ji-Yeon is just here to do her job, drink a little wine, and somehow pick up the pieces of her life. She knows this isn't where she wants to be ━ not even close. At least it's income, though, and at least she isn't married to someone who believed she mattered so little. Needless to say, Ji-yeon is kind of over hope and romance and all that bullshit about forever. She'll stick to cool skepticism and nights where only the chardonnay keeps her company.

GIM YOUNG-MI“ can you die? ”
TWENTY-FIVE
─────────────────────────────────
Young-mi went to Harvard. She has a Masters degree in Economics. And yet she still finds herself dealing with imbeciles who think that unless your ancestors were rich enough to be royalty and who got them out of ever having to work for a living.
She can put up with it. She has siblings, she's dealt with this kind of nonsense before. But when you combine bratty rich kids with incompetent staff, it becomes much harder to cope every. single. day. And she has to remind them that they don't. talk. about. the. dismissal. If the guests knew about the embezzlement (or as much as she knows) then she'd be out of a job. As much as she hates this place, it pays the bills (and her uni debt).

× DANTE · GARNER ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━ 24 ⇴ homme ⇴ straight ⇴ old bartenderwork is work, even when some of Dante's customers happen to be entitled white people who make statements like, "Egypt isn't in Africa, though." But let's be real, the only good thing about working at El Castillo is the pay ━ and all the glorious opportunities to educate a racist. It really shouldn't be surprising that Dante gets in trouble with management quite regularly thanks to his inability to let bs slide ━ not like he gives a damn, though.
maybe it's the weed or maybe it's some other factor Dante hasn't quite figured out, but he's a super chill dude. He's easy to talk to, keeps it real; the only people that are in danger of being on the receiving end of his harsh sarcastic remarks are those that possess a very narrow view of the world. So, yeah. Let's just ignore the small details ━ as in, the fact that the only reason Dante is here is because he has no idea what else to do with his life. No need to get that deep.

MIGUEL GARCÍA“ tu morte, por favor ”
TWENTY-EIGHT
─────────────────────────────────
Miguel is complicated. Yes, he would like to slap the idiot guests (no, small child, your fake ID is not convincing). But he'd also like to make enough money that, when uni goes back, he can pay off some of his debt. Sure, he's the salty bartender who's always demanding to see ID, but he's also the one that'll offer kids a place to hide from their annoying parents.
After all, he knows exactly what annoying parents are like. How did an architect end up serving drinks? Easy — his parents refused to pay for uni (though goodness knows they could afford it) after making him do a PhD. He's had this job for a month — and it pays ok.

× DANIEL · MALDONADO ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━ 22 ⇴ homme ⇴ straight ⇴ new lifeguarddaniel is the kind of guy that lives in between the moments. For him, everything is merely temporary. Girls, this job, his family, pain ━ they're all things that just go. Of course, this doesn't mean that Daniel is some detached loner. In fact, he's quite the charmer and seducer ━ not to mention story-teller. Because that's the other thing about Daniel: he's an excellent liar. It's not like he does it constantly or anything, but it certainly helps when he's trying to worm himself right where he wants to be. Notice how he didn't for this job
honestly, Daniel doesn't mind working at El Castillo as much as most of his fellow employees. Sure, the people are pretty shitty (but aren't they always?) and the days can be horrendously long, especially sitting out in the heat (at least his tan looks good) but it has it's perks. He's getting paid, right? And his parents are actually proud of him for once, which happens to be a nice little bonus.

lifeguard for six years
Is it possible for a lifeguard to drown? Because these days, Jae-seong kind of feels like he is. Jae always has liked to think of himself as a reasonable guy, you know — someone with pretty good judgment. His problem lies in the fact that his good judgement is good for nothing except thinking, and he can't say no, you know — if someone's upset then he must have done something wrong, maybe he didn't mean it wrong but it's his fault for not thinking more carefully.
And maybe logic (and his family, and his friends, and Emily's friends, for God's sake) had told him to do something for himself for once, but logic isn't always enough. It was only once she'd told him it was moving with her to New York or nothing, and he'd finally said, Nothing. And he's supposed to be able to breathe now — he knows she's taken advantage of him, he knows the things she says aren't true yet he believes them anyway, he knows she's the reason he's twenty-four and a lifeguard instead of a medical student even though he scored in the ninety-ninth percentile on the MCAT... but maybe she took too much of him over the years, because he doesn't know what's left anymore.
But it's okay. This is his new start; he'll study, and he'll work, and, well, he always liked this job, anyway. One more summer won't kill him.

TALA REYES“ don't drown ”
TWENTY-FOUR
─────────────────────────────────
Tala isn't sure whether teaching rich kids and their parents how to swim is worth the pay. It's good, sure, but Tala's usually endless tether has become very short with these people. They seem to think that she's too harsh — to which she responds, "Would you prefer they drowned?" Maybe it's not the best way to get her point across, but it's a lot more satisfying than being civil.
She's fairly sure the guests have gotten worse since she started working here, because the other instructors had horror stories that were better than these conditions. Entitled little brats are insufferable, even for the most patient of people.

× YARA · LARSSON ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━ 23 ⇴ femme ⇴ straight ⇴ old housekeeperreally there isn't much to say about Yara, nothing that really stands out beyond the glaringly obvious (the obvious being her height of 6'4, her smattering of freckles, and her wild red curls). Warm, compassionate, maternal ━ Yara is probably one of the few employees at El Castillo that doesn't slip a careful masks over a dark scowls. But it's not as if Yara is perfect or anything, nor is it as if she is unwaveringly loyal to the hotel. Staying is a lot easier than leaving, though.
The thing that most people don't realize under the smiles and easy laughter is that Yara is scared ━ scared to move on and to do things with her life. She's tethered by anxiety to this hotel despite her dreams to do something, anything with her life. The fact that her diploma is inching closer and closer does nothing dispel her fear. She only hopes she can get herself together before graduation day ━ and that this job doesn't become a permanent one.

new concierge
Look, you've got it wrong. What do you mean Jun-ho hates his job? No no, he absolutely adores telling these filthy rich assholes about the latest aromatherapy massage spas in the nearest ten mile vicinity... not.
Who ever said being a concierge was easy? It takes a lot of self-control to bite down those sarcastic comments and find a way to politely tell the peroxide-blonde trophy wife that no, there aren't any reservations available at the latest gourmet vegan restaurant, self-control that Jun isn't sure he ever possessed so excuse him if he comes off as a little cold or indifferent.
He's trying, okay?

× JASPER · HENDRIKSEN ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 22 ⇴ homme ⇴ demi ⇴ bellhopwhile Jasper has become well-adept at donning a good-natured albeit quiet facade, he's starting to slip ━ hard and fast. He's tired of pretending he's happy, he's tired of pretending he's just having a bad day when the mask slips and the sprawling darkness flickers behind his eyes. He's so tired. At least El Castillo provides a good little distraction, at least putting up with shitty hotel residents provides something to to occupy his mind with.
but Jasper is still scared, he still has nightmares, and he still hasn't figured out how to trust people. It doesn't matter that he goes to his therapist weekly and that she says he's doing better and nothing's going to happen; it doesn't matter that he has multiple locks on all his doors and windows and keeps a switchblade in his pocket. The scars his dad and brother left are forever etched onto him ━ and boy is recovery a bitch.

× ELLIOT · PERKINS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━ 19 ⇴ homme ⇴ bisexual ⇴ bellhopdespite how shitty it is having to take orders from very rude guests, Elliot doesn't outright hate his job. There's plenty of eye-candy and plenty of opportunities to flirt, after all. But more than that, Elliot kind of has to be here and he figures that working here to save up sure as hell beats the local McDonald's. Unfortunately, school text books don't come cheap and neither do fancy coffee drinks; things that Elliot obviously does indeed need.
plus, the extra income Elliot brings sure does help things out at home. With two older sisters and five younger ones, his parents certainly have their hands full. So Elliot does what he can and if he happens to get a little action on the way ━ well, all the better for him. He's just trying to get through Summer mostly unscathed at this point. Although, staying out of drama when working at El Castillo isn't always possible...

× SYDNEY · POWELL ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━ 26 ⇴ femme ⇴ straight ⇴ new secretaryeven though Sydney acts like everything is just peachy, this job is purely temporary step in her life. Sure, the pay isn't terrible and the amenities are pretty good, but she has better things to do than play secretary for the rest of her life. Like actually run a hotel. She likes being involved, likes being in the center of activity ━ which is why she wants to manage a high-class a hotel; plus, think of the reputation she could garner?
sydney honestly has no care for fame, however. Her interest lies in the excitement that would come from being able to call something hers, from being able to say "Yep, I built my establishment from the ground up and looked great while doing it." She knows she can make it to the top. Confident, efficient, intelligent ━ she could hold the world in the palm of her hand if she so wished. Now she just has to figure out how to go from secretary to high-class hotel owner.
Henry Cho: twenty-two years old, an English degree fresh under his belt, and using it for the very glamorous job of bartending. Yeah. Not that El Castillo isn't nice — well, nice for the guests, at least — but this isn't exactly what he envisioned doing after graduation. Sure, the pay is decent, and it's better than unemployment, but seriously, they couldn't have put him by the pool bar or one of their nicer restaurants? Really? No. Of course not. His "family friendly face" has him alternating shifts between the karaoke bar and the teen club mocktail bar. Just his luck. But it's fine! This is fine. He's fine. He just has to survive the summer, and then he can apply for grad schools or at least a new job. (But if Henry hears one more drunken rendition of December 1963, he's going to actually kill someone.) #newstaff #bartender4lyfe #hopefullynotliterally
