Not just a book of swords...

This is probably the review I am proudest of so far. It really means a lot that female readers recognise this male writer's efforts to portray a heroine, and being compared to Tolkien is always pretty amazing :)

'Too many writers want to box in a female character into, virgin, mother, whore, warrior or old women. The fact that the author has given so much intelligence to his main female lead in this first book is amazing. I was hooked from the start, it is reminiscent of George R. R. Martin's "Of Fire and Ice" saga. This is in regards to the scale and scope of the world, the work that has gone into creating this is mind blowing!

'It also has leanings towards my favourite collection of all time by Tolkien, "LOTR". In my eyes Tolkien's work is a literary masterpiece; the author stands in very great company. It is a high compliment indeed from an avid reader as myself to place Mr. Black's work in comparison to the Master Tolkien himself.'
