I have a fantasy novel that is about 70K words and am looking to have it critiqued.
The story is about two poor children, a boy and a girl, who desperately want to join a neighboring people who are very wealthy. Though they dream each day of having more, they are forbidden from leaving their village by the girl's father, who won't reveal why. After a tragic accident, the father is killed and his magic staff, which had hidden the children, is broken. The evil which had been kept at bay, which seeks the girl, is let loose. The children achieve all that they ever wanted, but find it brings more heartache than happiness. They find as well that they were hidden for a reason, and the being who found them, should never have been freed.
