To make sure that the volume of submissions doesn't get out of hand, we're following a weekly schedule:

*We'll always reopen every Monday night UTC when the new issue is published.
*When we're open, there will be no daily cap.
*During the week, if and when the queue begins to significantly outstrip the reading, we'll close for the week to give ourselves room to catch up.
*This page will always clearly indicate whether we're closed and if so, when we'll be reopening.
Flash 0 to 1000 words 8 cents/word
Short Story 1000 to 7500 words 8 cents/word
Novelette 7500 to 10000 words 8 cents/word

They prefer works under 5,000 words.

They're an SFWA-qualified market.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Starting to consider severing my stuff into small independent episodes, especially since they have a samovar folder -:)

go for it, Nik!

I've been vigorously pursing shorts as a way to improve my writing (they're a shorter turnaround than a novel) and earn credentials (not only to have something published by a well-known SF&F venue, but to also become a member of the SFWA) for about a year now.

Go for it! I'll be submitting this week or the next.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments And it you're in Australia, 'every Monday' translates to 'mostly Tuesday.' ;-P

As far as I can see they really motor through the submissions too. I submitted last week (I suspect my story isn't what they're looking for but as I heard from Jack Dann last weekend - if you're submitting, that's a good thing, and you never know), and I'm now 78th in the queue after starting out in the high 200s.

message 9: by Quantum (new)

Quantum (quantumkatana) Is Dann the editor? But wait, you're still 78th? Does that mean they're looking at it? ^_^ That would be very cool.

message 10: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments I think it probably just means that I'm 78th in line to be read now.

message 11: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments However, should anything else happen, I'll let you know :)

Basically it says Status: In progress
Queue Position: 78

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments Yes - ran the writing workshop I went to a couple of weekends ago.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments Well, I received a rejection, so have resubmitted elsewhere :-)

Ganbatte! (yep, that's what i do too. reread it and see if anything needs tweaking and then resubmit to another venue.)
