go for it, Nik!
I've been vigorously pursing shorts as a way to improve my writing (they're a shorter turnaround than a novel) and earn credentials (not only to have something published by a well-known SF&F venue, but to also become a member of the SFWA) for about a year now.

Ganbatte!

As far as I can see they really motor through the submissions too. I submitted last week (I suspect my story isn't what they're looking for but as I heard from Jack Dann last weekend - if you're submitting, that's a good thing, and you never know), and I'm now 78th in the queue after starting out in the high 200s.

Basically it says Status: In progress
Queue Position: 78

oops. i wrote poorly. what a sin. and i read poorly too. an even greater sin. ^_^
i see now, Dann wrote that it's a good thing you're submitting.
Short Story 1000 to 7500 words 8 cents/word
Novelette 7500 to 10000 words 8 cents/word
They prefer works under 5,000 words.
They're an SFWA-qualified market.
