SOLVED. Couple buried under debris with hands touching, fiction. [s]

Fiction book read in the 1980's. A man holds a door open for a woman unknown to him just as a bomb exodes. I think they were in a department store. When the dust settles they are in the dark, covered in debris, but their hands are touching and they can talk to each other. They form a relationship as they hope and wait for a rescue.
