thank you :)
thank you :)
I wrote a poem... it took a lot out of me but I need to share it somewhere and there's nobody I know that's ready to read it:
Can You Love: Unedited
Dear Future Lovers, Friends, Companions, Mentors…
before you make the half-hearted decision to try and get close to me
could you make sure
that you won’t leave or
that you won’t change your mind or
that you’ll not cheat me?
Will you make sure you can love me?
Can you love a girl
with stretch marks on her thighs and a little hair on her chest
a scar on her brow
and arms she rarely feels comfortable showing
Can you love someone
who cries herself to sleep
sometimes because of her own pain, her own fears, but often because of others
real or not real
and sometimes can’t tell the difference
Can you love a person
that has a flaring temper nearly always washed away with ocean tears
instant disappointment in herself
and a contradicting desire and fear to be loved.
Can you love a girl
who sometimes eats too little
scares herself then scolds herself for being dramatic
in a vicious cycle of her own making
can you love her and not hate her for that?
Can you love someone
that is afraid of most things she wants to do
needs someone to walk in unfamiliar places with her
flinches occasionally merely at close proximity to people
Can you love a person
with a scotch-taped heart always longing for something fictional
a troubled mind that isn’t sure of its own inner workings
and addicted eyes always glued to the screen or the page and not the eyes in front of them.
Can you love me
even when I stay up until 2am, knowing I will be sore, swollen, and empty the next day
in spite of my raging emotions
my hopelessness
my overarching theme of fear
and despite all these things… can you love me?

Inspired by Overwhelming by Jon Bellion
Fingers hooked in loopholes
Sneakers stumbling into each other
Sharp jabs of hips
Half-curved mouths
Eyes rolled in loving annoyance
Fingers brushing over shoulders
Hands intertwined so tightly the world couldn't break their grip
Kisses on palms and smiles in chests
Everything so quiet you can hear a heartbeat
Then loud, raucous laughter breaking silence into pieces
Soft taps of desperate attention never ignored
Embraces of loose arms
Questioning eyebrows dared for a challenge
Hair that was made for messing
Flashes of emotions that inspire the globe
Red faces and out-of-breath chests
Lungs that ache from giggles
Bad jokes whispered in the middle of movies
Incredulous outrage at watching the same scene three times
Fingers resting on ankles
Heads resting in laps
Jangling of teasing keys
Mornings filled with subconscious humming
"You can't stop smiling"
Aching jaws
Dry throats because water isn't as important as explaining the day
Elbows on knees listening
Rants about the newest hire
Scientific arguments at dinner
Memorized planes of skin and bone
Not much of a poem... more like a jumble of thoughts. Anyways.
