How often do you sort your TBR pile?

Good question. I actually frequently re-order and cull books from my shelves just to keep the thing from getting obscenely big and so I can get some use from it. I don't always read the books in the order I've listed them, but it helps. The books at the top are usually the ones I'm most interested in atm.
I never delete books from my to-read shelf. It's only when do I want to read that I try to decide. Usually I order the top of my TBR list based on the current reads going on in all the book clubs that I am a member of. Other than that, any series that I have started reading, I put the sequels higher up in my list. Once in a while, I come across a book that I am really interested in, in which case, I ping it to the top of my TBR pile.
Every once in a while i come up with a new shelf and then i rearrange them all. i try not to rearrange much
very rarely. though I did resort about 2 months ago and weeded out maybe 5 or 6 books :)
In general I only look at it before I'm going to go to the library. Bookstores I only buy books I've been considering for awhile, and usually can't find at the library. Usually there ones I've designated to buy books though. I don't usually delete things from it (tho I think I have before) because I only put books on there that I seriously want to read. I don't like it filled with a lot of fluff books that I'll probably never get to. That just bothers me and makes me feel cluttered. haha.
I can't remember deleting any books. I do rearrange my books often depending on what I receive from the library at a time. Sometimes I'll find books here and add them to my library list instead of my to-read list here...lol.

Wow 400+, that's crazy. I never sort it really. It's rare that I take anything off of it, because I don't add to it till I know for sure I wish to read the book or if I own the book personally. That's why there are only about 46 books.
i sorted my part of my tbr shelf a week or so ago, but really only the first 10 books. i think i have like 24 books on my tbr shelf.my wish list shelf....not that's another story. it just keeps growing and growing. seems like i move 3 or 4 from my wish list to my tbr shelf....and then add another 10 to my wish list.
all in all i really like the convenience of sorting everything.
I never delete, but I do rearrange "what's up next" (x5 of so books) depending on friend recs and the latest hyped book sometimes (lol!)
I never sort my TBR shelf and I rarely delete books from it. If I bought the book, I have to read it - even if it takes a decade to do it, LOL.
I only delete if someone I trust tells me it was awful, AND it was a book I wasn't sure I wanted to read anyway. Joy, I totally understand the 400+ books. I have close to 300.
That's another reason I don't sort - my TBR has close to 350 books, and I keep adding to the pile. At any time, only those books I have immediate access to will be at the top of the pile. Funnily, books I own stay longer in the TBR pile, since I tend to give books borrowed from the library higher priority, due to approaching return dates.

LOL. Yeah, if I bought a book I usually won't delete it, but otherwise I'm not compelled to keep it on my TBR unless a friend really recommends it. My moods change. :)

Nop. :-) They are just books I want to read at some point in my life. But I usually borrow books from the library based on my TBR list, and if I really want to own a book, I buy it.

I rarely delete books from my physical to be read shelf. I keep a to be read shelf here and a wish list on Amazon. I've deleted a bunch of books from the Amazon list. Sometimes I've found that book in the library or a used book store and have read it. Sometimes I'll put a book into a wish list and realize I am not interested in it, or several other similar ones.

Yup for me :) Everything on TBR (that's not a wishlist of course) I have on my shelf and everything I've read I still have except maybe a small handful of books because a friend loaned them to me.

Dina, if only I had enough shelf space and didn't have to venture into the closets! One day I'll have that library --maybe when I'm an old grandma (lol!)
I had to choose between having lots of shoes or books in my closet, LOL. Shoes won, so my books are "neatly" stored in several boxes in the corner of my spare bedroom.

Out of my 428 books on my to-read shelf, I own 103 of them. LOL hehehe I am terrible. That's obviously not including the MANY books I have read that I own. I actually own about another 50+ books that I still need to read, but I don't put them on here, because they aren't high priority books...

Yes! Of course I go to the library! I have four kids! I can barely afford to buy toilet paper, much less books! Ok. It's not quite that bad. But I do take full advantage of the library. I used to buy books all of the time...before the rugrats. I could kick myself when I think about how much money I could have saved by just waiting a few days until the library had the books I wanted in! As it is, I usually check out four or five books a week. I can't imagine how much it would cost me to buy that many! Save yourself, Jo!

As libraries changed I changed as well.I'm seriously considering a Kindle mainly for books that I don't want to house as physical books which I also know the library won't buy. It depends.

Explain what a Kindle is? I have heard people talking about them a lot. Ugh. It sucks being out of the loop with all these new-fangled things! LOL

A Kindle is an e-reader, Anne. You download books to the device and read whereever. The screen is about the size of a paperback.

Yeah, beside my to-read books...the books I have already read I have my entire storage filled with books, a 7 foot tall bookcase double-triple stacked on each shelf...and more. LOL Soooo...many books! Luckily, my hubby loves books too! :)
One of my neighbor's kids (adult kid actually) owned one and it was on the coffee table when I visited for a few minutes. It was bigger than I expected. Since the owner was not there I did not pick it up although I would have loved to have actually touched it and seen how it worked.The larger version had just come out, so I did ask if it was the larger one. It is not. It is about the size of a Trade paperback.

The Kindle is owned by Amazon, so you get the books onto it through their website. The price has just gone down to $299. Expensive in my opinion so I'm waiting for it to go down a bit more before I consider buying. Books run from free (in public domain) to about $10. I don't think I've seen any higher, but they probably do go higher. At this time it is all black and white and mainly text. I have a funny feeling that once it goes to color and includes photos and other artwork it will really take off, but that could be a decade off in time. Macs, after all, were still in black and white years after I was using Windows in color.
Too rich for my purse, at least right now. I'm with you, Starling, wait a while and the price will drop.
I go online every now again to check out the Sony e-reader. I love new toys but I see how much it is for books to download and I can't get bargain books for $3. So I'm sure I'll live without it, but that desire for something new to play with... Maybe for Christmas!

I'm saving my money up to buy the Kindle DX in September. The PDF file reading is a major plus. Also it holds 3300 documents. That's a lot!

Plus it has the thing where it can read aloud to you. Which I think is cool. :) My hubby and I hinted to my Father that we want the Kindle DX for Christmas. It'd be nice if he gets it for us! :)
That would be a fantastic gift, Joy. It's a bit pricey if you get the 2 year warranty $100 and a cover $40. You're looking at $650 dollars. But I decided working all the time should have some advantages. I bet it will get a little cheaper by December.

I figure if my Dad got it for us it would be both of our xmas gifts, plus my bday gift. My Dad probably wouldnt get the warranty or the cover...knowing him. I figure $500 is less than he usually spend on xmas/bdays for us...so it probably work well. :)
No offense to Kindle lovers, but I wouldn't want one. Maybe the new model will be better, but I think they're way too restrictive. I prefer DRM-free. I have a Sony Reader, not even the latest model, and it reads PDFs just fine. I can't believe it's taken Amazon this long to get around to making a Kindle model that will read PDFs considering it's such a common file type. Not to mention that whole business recently with the disappearing book. I don't like someone else having that much control over my e-book reader or any other electronic device for that matter.
