Paula wrote: "Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You is available for request - quite shocked I got approved!"Maybe because it's Amazon published (Montlake)? They're a little easier to get approved by, I find. Also it's YA and those titles usually need more reviewers. Aside from CoHo, anyway. I'm going to wait since it's KU, but I can't wait to see what you think, Paula.
Montlake denied me on something recently and I sent a letter because I’ve reviewed a ton for them but supposedly they have tightened their criteria. If they deny me on CoHo I’m gonna flip absolute shit! Just warning y’all...I’m very chill but that will piss me the heck off! Ok...rant done. Thanks for letting me vent and fingers crossed!! (Plus my review ratio is actually sitting right at 80 right now which never happens)
.....and they denied me! I’m literally livid! I’ve reviewed so much crap for them and they used to approve me for everything. Whatever...
Michele wrote: ".....and they denied me! I’m literally livid! I’ve reviewed so much crap for them and they used to approve me for everything. Whatever..."I had wondered if Amazon started being more stringent when they quit being mostly "read now." I stopped requesting them a couple of years ago since they're all KU, but CoHo was tempting.
It really just started being an issue within the last month. I was rejected on one and received an email saying they recently tightened their requirements. I emailed them because over the last year, I’ve reviewed at least 12-13 books of theirs so I was a wee bit shocked. My email was respectful and I received no response. Very unprofessional and disappointing. It’s okay though - I need to back off of Netgalley some anyway...this will actually work to my advantage!

It definitely does, Jean!
Paula wrote: "Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You is available for request - quite shocked I got approved!"Requested it.... but I have so many books outstanding that I doubt I'll get approved!
So, I was just denied CoHo's Regretting You. Wasn't surprised really. This was the message they sent me:
"Thank you for requesting an early reader's copy of this Montklake title from the NetGalley catalog. At this time, however, we are not accepting requests for this title. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at amazonpublishing-pr@amazon.com."
THEY ARE NOT "ACCEPTING REQUESTS"?!?!? SERIOUSLY?!? THEN WHY PUT IT ON NETGALLEY WITH A REQUEST BUTTON? WTF!!!!

They are really messed up lately...I don't think they know what the heck they are doing. Just my bitter 2 pennies worth...

Exactly Jean...sorry for your rejection...so stupid!

SAME HERE AND WTF

I emailed them because over the last year..."Personally, I try to have only 1 outstanding ARC at any given time, regardless of the source. I usually manage, but at times I will have 2-3 outstanding. Although, only if the due dates are staggered well. I started that about a year ago, because it became overwhelming when I would get ahead of myself and I want my reading time to be enjoyable. Also, there are so many older titles that I want to read and balancing new with old can be hard if I’m accepting too many ARCs. I’ve had to do it for my sanity, as well. I’ve already informed you of some of my reading neurosis. 🤪 😂

You can search for titles and request them or you can get books through the read now option on net galley. Every once in a while, an email might come out with some items that are open to request. These usually come from the publishers (I think). They will not automatically send you anything to review without you signing up for it. Hopefully I answered some of your questions....

Just leave a review and mention t..."You're exactly right, Tasha. No one wants to read any spoiler-ish details or a regurgitation of the book blurb. Basically, a review should be why or why not you liked a book without delving too deeply into the details. Don't give anymore of the story than what a reader can get from the blurb. I'm able to keep my reviews fairly vague, but hopefully give any prospective reader an idea whether or not they might like that particular book. If you're interested, here's one of my recent reviews of a Netgally ARC as an example:

Just spend some time poking around Netgalley, looking at titles that interest you in your favorite categories and start requesting. You probably will get denied a few times (and if you're anything like me get your feelings hurt when they do), but eventually you'll start getting approved, and be sure to leave a review. Any review will do. I try to talk about how a book made me feel while reading it, or what I loved (or didn't love) about it. I leave a few words even if it didn't work for me. If you get tired of getting turned down when first starting out, then look at strictly "Read Now" books, which don't require approval...and leave those reviews and link back to them on your Netgalley feedback section. Once you get a few of those under your belt, the approvals will start rolling in. Sometimes they even seek you out to read something. Then you can feel all sorts of special and important, LOL
You don't need to post links to any, as long as you leave a review on NG, you should be fine. If I love a book I will post any and all links and post reviews on Amazon as well.
Tasha wrote: "Thanks guys, this is really helpful info!! I like the sample review as well. My feelings do sort of get hurt if I don’t get picked. Or they would’ve more a few years ago. Like when I got on GR at 1..."Yes, you will want to post your initial review on netgalley. When you click on the book you read on your shelf, there will be a purple "Give Feedback" button in the upper right hand corner. You'll click on that and it will pull up a screen where you'll type in your review for the publisher. There is a button you click when typing that review where it will sometimes copy it into your GR account for you. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes I have to copy and paste it manually. I also post on Amazon and Barnes & Noble (and sometimes BookBub). Some people post on other sites as well. I know the biggie is Amazon usually. Also, on Amazon and B&N you can't post until it releases so there's a spot on NetGalley where it will remind you to post to Retail Sites when the book releases (It's under the Feedback Sent tab). Just play around on the site some and you'll kind of see how it all works. I hope this helped and I didn't just confuse you further. Always feel free to message me too if you need help when you're doing something.
Tasha - Once you get a book on NetGalley, it's on "Your Shelf". When you complete reading it, they want you to review. You can do so right there on NetGalley by clicking on the "Give Feedback" next to that title. There, you write your review and give your star rating, but it also asks for links to anywhere else you reviewed. I always post my review on Goodreads too, and add my link from Goodreads to my NetGalley review before I submit. There's a spot for where you can just copy/paste it from Goodreads. Or, you can do the same if you post a review on Amazon...or you can add both links. I do the bare minimum. I post my review first on Goodreads. Then I copy my link and go to NetGalley and take care of my review there......or, now that I just noticed that Michele posted...what she said :)
This book is already out but I requested anyway and got approved within several minutes: Everybody Lies
