Before I get into too much detail, I would like to introduce you all to the comment box. That would be the rectangular-shaped object at the bottom of your screen. It allows you to type words and "post" them in a particular thread. If you've found the certain rectangular object I am speaking of, you're off to an excellent start. Directly above the comment box are two beige phrases: "add book/author" and "(some html is ok)". Those will play an integral role in properly formatting your posts.
Add Book/Author
If you click on the words "add book/author", a box will pop up that allows you to search for any book or author here on Goodreads. This feature is used very frequently throughout the group, particularly in Monthly Read Nominations, Reading Challenges, etc., so it is important that each member understand how to use this function.
After clicking "add book/author", ensure that the proper box is checked. Your choices are: "link" or "cover", which are fairly self-explanatory. Most members use the "link" option in their posts, which creates a link to the book's main page here on Goodreads. The "cover" option causes a picture of the book's cover to appear in your post. Once you have selected one of those options, type the name of the book or author into the search box. Once you find the proper edition, click "add." Viola! You've added your first book or author to a post.

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. More simply, HTML tells your browser exactly what to display. HTML determines whether font appears bolded, underlined, italicized, etc.
When you click the words "(some html is ok)", a cheat sheet of HTML code pops up. On the lefthand side is a description of what each code will do. On the righthand side is the code itself. If you would like to include one of the listed HTML options in a post, simply copy and paste the code (the information between < and >) into the comment box. For more information regarding each code, see below.
How to Bold Text
Code: <*b>...<*/b>
Example: This text has been bolded.
