W.J.R. Parks | 4 comments Hi everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I just published my first book on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Birth-Into-Dark... and got advice from other writer friends to join Goodreads to help get word out there and make more friends in the world of the internet. I'm still reading and figuring things out and how stuff works on the site.

I finished my book and now just starting my road to learning how to get the word out there, which I really know nothing about.

Hope to meet some great people here and hopefully get some honest feedback and advice. Looking forward to chatting with everyone!

Dina Roberts William,

Hi! I hope you meet a lot of writer friends here.

In the world of the internet, it's very easy to get the word out about our books. The problem is seeing a promotion for a book doesn't often lead to a person wanting to buy it.

So what do we do?

I have no idea.

Right now I'm just kind of hoping for good luck.

Katheryn Avila (katheryn_avila) Hello! I'm in basically the same situation. I published my first book a couple of weeks ago and self promotion has been pretty tough. I can tell you one thing though - being on here has totally helped! It just takes a lot of patience, some nudges in the right direction, and perserverence! Just know you're not alone in the wide world of the Internet :)

DigiWriting | 1 comments Self promotion is tough. Elly if you find the free book method isn't working, you could try the "Kindle Countdown".

Kyra Halland (kyrahalland) Hi and welcome!

They say the best promotion for your book is the next book. I don't know if that's completely true, but most authors who take off seem to have a number of books out.

In this group, make sure you participate in the Featured Author every week. If you do something to promote that week's featured author, you get entered into the drawing for the next week. Especially if you do a blog feature; that helps drive more traffic to your blog. Which may or may not help you sell more books, but it can't hurt :)

You can also sign up on the read and review thread; every week or so, 8 books are drawn to be featured for read and review. Interested readers sign up for free copies to do reviews. I've had maybe a 50% follow-through rate on reviews when I've offered review copies, but it can be a good way to start getting some reviews out there.

W.J.R. Parks | 4 comments I don't feel as bad as I did, going through the steps of marketing lol.

I'll have to try out the Featured Author week, sounds interesting. I tried the free Kindle promotion, got a good number of downloads and returned only one review thus far. Good way to start down the path to paranoia, thinking if the story is good or just no one liked it enough to leave a review. But I think I'll keep on trekking to the second book and see how it all turns out in the end. :D

Louise O'Connell (httpwwwgoodreadscomlouiselake) | 25 comments Hello,
I'm also new to good reads. I'm Louise I like to write, read and blog. I have just self published my first book Mina Harker: The Curse of the Vampire on Amazon.

Seven years after the eventful night that Mina was almost turned into a vampire, she is now happily married to Jonathan Harker and has a lovely son called Quincy until her past comes back to haunt her.
Mina’s life is thrown into turmoil as a gypsy sorceress with a hidden agenda casts a spell from the book of the dead to bring Dracula back from his grave.
Mina’s worst nightmares are unleashed as her husband and child are brutally slaughtered and she is reborn with a bloodthirsty appetite and dark vengeance.
Seeking revenge and to be reunited with her loved ones, Mina battles against all odds and survives into the twenty first century, until a handsome stranger arrives to document Mina’s life who is not quite what he seems…
Mina Harker: The Curse of the Vampire is a compelling sequel to Dracula, which also acts as a standalone story. Bringing back the old characters and adding new ones to create an emotional, action packed modernised fantasy from Mina’s perspective with an added twist at the end.

W.J.R. Parks | 4 comments I love to take a look at some of the sites and tips are always helpful.

Time is my biggest problem I'd say. Between trying to get work done and promoting, I haven't been able to do anything on as far as marketing goes all this month. I was thinking I should just set a day like Sunday to sit down and focus on marketing.
