Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb, I'm picking Oh Say Can You Fudge (Candy-Coated, #3) by Nancy CoCo for you. I wish more of this series was available in audio! (audible.com, are you listening?)

My next five:
The Banty House by Carolyn Brown In Times of Rain and War by Camron Wright An Unfortunate End by Lisa Zumpano Hadley & Grace by Suzanne Redfearn Like Lions by Brian Panowich

message 602: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Thanks, Jennifer :) I wonder if the problem is with the publisher? Publishers seem to be the 'bad guys' in a lot of these situations -- including dropping series where we all want to read more books!

message 603: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Finished the book Jennifer chose, and agree with her wish that more of the series would be available on audio :)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished a prior pick: The Magnolia Inn by Carolyn Brown which was a good heartwarming read, typical of Carolyn Brown.

I have not yet read Hadley, Barb!

I'm picking Sprinkled (Lacey Luzzi Mafia Mysteries, #1) by Gina LaManna for you, Barb - I like the cover and I'm curious about this series.

My next five:
The Banty House by Carolyn Brown In Times of Rain and War by Camron Wright An Unfortunate End by Lisa Zumpano Like Lions by Brian Panowich Cat Me If You Can (Cat in the Stacks Mystery #13) by Miranda James

message 606: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments I'm curious about it too, so I guess I'll find out :) This is one of those times when I've chosen a book specifically to fit a challenge task, so ... who knows?

message 607: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Finished the book Jennifer chose for me and am sorry to say I didn't care for it. If you like books filled with sexual innuendos/jokes on every page and bumbling sleuths who are connected to the Family, then you might like it, but it's not my thing. By now, I should know that when a book is described as "laugh out loud funny" or "hilarious," I won't find it funny at all, let alone hilarious.

Sprinkled (Lacey Luzzi Mafia #1), by Gina LaManna, finished 9/7 ★★

Come to think of it, that's true -- the ones that are actually funny don't advertise themselves with that phrase.....

message 610: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb, I'm choosing What Could Possibly Go Wrong? (The Chronicles of St Mary's, #6) by Jodi Taylor for you, more for the title than the cover lol.

My next five:

An Irish Country Doctor (Irish Country #1) by Patrick Taylor All the Devils Are Here (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #16) by Louise Penny The Broken Spine (Beloved Bookroom Mystery, #1) by Dorothy St. James Out of Focus (Adams Grove, #2) by Nancy Naigle Lending a Paw (A Bookmobile Cat Mystery, #1) by Laurie Cass

message 611: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Thanks, Jennifer! The title of that book could be the ... mantra? of the entire series so far -- which is part of the reason I like the series so much :)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I've finished two recently:
The Lion and the Rose (The Borgias, #2) by Kate Quinn good, but the first was better and
A Mystic Murder (Witches of Hemlock Cove #1) by Kennedy Chase very fast reading, OK but not great.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I've finished two in the last few weeks and liked both: Lending a Paw (A Bookmobile Cat Mystery, #1) by Laurie Cass and Like Lions (Bull Mountain, #2) by Brian Panowich .

Marla, I'm choosing China Rich Girlfriend (Crazy Rich Asians, #2) by Kevin Kwan because I read this series recently, and liked it much better than I expected to.

My next five:

All the Devils Are Here (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #16) by Louise Penny Out of Focus (Adams Grove, #2) by Nancy Naigle The Last Line (Tracy Crosswhite, #8.5) by Robert Dugoni Crimson Lake Road (Desert Plains, #2) by Victor Methos Reading Between the Crimes (Jane Doe Book Club Mystery, #2) by Kate Young

I obviously just need to bite the bullet and read this. It's been wagged in my face via various posts on GR about six times in the last week.

I just read a book that had a college professor in a fight with a student over a girl! Addiction, go figure, that's a pretty detailed plot item. And I was incredulous too.

message 632: by Connie N. (last edited Dec 09, 2021 11:51PM) (new)

Connie N. | 3775 comments Marla that plotline always makes me uncomfortable.

message 633: by Jennifer (last edited Dec 17, 2021 08:10PM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb, if you haven't read it yet, I choose The Stars Are Not Yet Bells by Hannah Lillith Assadi for you.

I've finished two recently: Dreaming in Chocolate by Susan Bishop Crispell Look What the Wind Blew In (Dig Site Mysteries, #1) by Ann Charles . Both were good: the latter took me a bit to get into because I like her Deadwood series so much and this was such a different setting. But I'll be continuing.

My next five:
Crimson Lake Road (Desert Plains, #2) by Victor Methos Gone Too Far (Devlin & Falco, #2) by Debra Webb The Riviera House by Natasha Lester I Know You by Claire McGowan Her Mother's Secret by Natasha Lester

Well, I started it yesterday, but haven't read much of it yet, so does that count?

message 635: by Jennifer (last edited Dec 16, 2021 11:35AM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Counts as still being fair game as far as I'm concerned, and I knew from my feed that you'd already knocked out at least one of the others.... I count myself lucky that you hadn't already finished this one!

message 636: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Finished The Stars Are Not Yet Bells, which ended up not really being my cup of tea. It was well-written, but confusing. It makes sense, given the MC's health issues, but I frequently lost track of what was going on.

Barb | 1895 comments Well, I've read four of the last five I posted, so here's another batch:

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'm choosing Bury Your Dead (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #6) by Louise Penny for you, Barb.

I read my last pick: I Know You by Claire McGowan - I gave it a three, which is partially because I remain tired of these "thrillers where someone's past catches up with them."

Why do authors -- or is it publishers? -- seem to jump on these bandwagons? Book A sold really well and got great reviews, so we're going to use the same idea because we know it will be a hit! *sigh*

message 644: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3775 comments They follow the same trends with TV shows too. Remember when Survivor was such a hit, then there were suddenly a bunch of reality shows?
