Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb, I'm choosing A Trail Through Time (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #4) by Jodi Taylor for you because that cover is so interesting.

My next five:

Witching For Grace (Premonition Pointe, #1) by Deanna Chase The Girl On Legare Street (Tradd Street, #2) by Karen White The Daydream Cabin by Carolyn Brown The Ordeal of the Haunted Room (Chronicles of St. Mary's, #11.5) by Jodi Taylor A Resolution at Midnight by Shelley Noble

LOL At least it's off my to-read list now. Even better, it was one of the print books taking up space on my bookshelf, so now there's a bit more room for the remaining books to breathe -- at least for now :)

Thanks, Jennifer :) At the risk of adding the straw that broke the camel's back ... I really like this series, and am glad for an excuse to move this book higher up in the pile.

It's actually on my TBR for April! Now I have an extra reason to read it!

Jennifer, I'm choosing Witching For Grace (Premonition Pointe, #1) by Deanna Chase because I love the blues on the cover!

And because why not add to my pile to be read, here are five more!

All In (Sleeper SEALs, #9) by Lori Ryan The Cipher (Nina Guerrera, #1) by Isabella Maldonado Deadly Chapel by N.C. Lewis The Eye of Ra (The Eye of Ra, #1) by Ben Gartner The Haunting of Brynn Wilder by Wendy Webb

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Two can play that game, Chelsea, besides, I'm down to only 7 unfinished for this challenge. I choose The Eye of Ra (The Eye of Ra, #1) by Ben Gartner for you. I like the color contrast.

My next five:
The Girl On Legare Street (Tradd Street, #2) by Karen White The Daydream Cabin by Carolyn Brown The Ordeal of the Haunted Room (Chronicles of St. Mary's, #11.5) by Jodi Taylor A Resolution at Midnight by Shelley Noble Murder at an Irish Christmas (Irish Village Mystery #6) by Carlene O'Connor

I like when the pile gets so big it falls over, and I realize there's a book I'm suddenly re-excited about revealed at the bottom. :)

message 558: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments LOL I've had that happen even while browsing through my GR shelves, usually when looking for a book to fit an unusual challenge task :) "Oh yeah, I forgot about this one!"

That one keeps catching my eye when trying to make monthly TBRs so I now have a reason to add it!

message 560: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Finished the book Jennifer chose for me, and liked it as much as the first few books in the series. I always learn something from these books, but they make me laugh too :) Thanks for giving me an excuse to bump this one higher up the list!

A Trail Through Time (The Chronicles of St. Mary's #4), by Jodi Taylor, finished 4/12 ★★★★

Barb | 1895 comments Jennifer, the book that jumped out at me from your choices is The Daydream Cabin by Carolyn Brown . I have several of her books in Mt. TBR, so would love to know what you think of her writing :)

message 562: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments My next five :

Anthem for Doomed Youth (Daisy Dalrymple, #19) by Carola Dunn A Glimmer of a Clue by Daryl Wood Gerber The Skeleton Stuffs a Stocking (Family Skeleton Mystery #6) by Leigh Perry The Night Hawks by Elly Griffiths Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb wrote: "Jennifer, the book that jumped out at me from your choices is The Daydream Cabin by Carolyn Brown. I have several of her books in Mt. TBR, so would love to know what you think of her writing :)"

I've read probably a dozen of her books. I steer away from the "cowboy romance series" etc because those really aren't my thing. The ones I've read are heartwarming family-focused with some romance, but legitimate issues to deal with. I think you'd like her, and I strongly recommend that you read The Sisters Café (The Cadillac Series #1) by Carolyn Brown .

Here's what I said about it at the time:
Woot! Take an off-the-chain old Southern woman, throw in a few others who have difficulty controlling her, point her in the direction of her arch-enemy with a few fresh grudges to avenge, and let 'er rip! Hilarious! Reminded me of MKA's Hissy Fit and others of that ilk.

(It also reminded me of Gertie and Ida Bell when they're talking about that uptight old biddy who was the mayor for awhile in the Miss Fortune mysteries, except with slightly fewer armaments.)

message 564: by Barb (last edited Apr 16, 2021 08:25AM) (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Thanks for the insight. I may have to bump one of her books higher up in the queue, if I can decide which to start with :) I loved MKA's Hissy Fit when I read it years ago, and the Miss Fortune books are an absolute hoot lol

Not all her books are like that, although all have some humor. I find I"m picking her books up pretty often these days. Some of them are "read for free" or "read and listen for free" on KU.

message 566: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments I haven't joined KU yet. I usually have so many books from NetGalley to read each month, there's not much time left to read anything else on my Kindle. I'm being more judicious about NG requests lately, though, so I'm considering signing up for KU.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb wrote: "I haven't joined KU yet. I usually have so many books from NetGalley to read each month, there's not much time left to read anything else on my Kindle. I'm being more judicious about NG requests la..."

I've been in it for a few years but I realized about a year ago that I was rarely reading the books I had downloaded -- just got busy reading other things. I made a shelf for KU and one for KU with audible (which I have erroneously named "on prime" but whatev) and now I'm making a point of reading or listening to at least two per month. That will more than justify the cost in most cases, if I were to buy the two books. It's working out well.

message 568: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I don't remember the last time I updated what I had read here, but my list shows that I've finished the following and have 7 unfinished at this time.
Finished: The Last Collection A Novel of Elsa Schiaparelli and Coco Chanel by Jeanne Mackin The Engineer's Wife by Tracey Enerson Wood Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Booked for Death (Booklovers B&B Mysteries #1) by Victoria Gilbert To Kill a Mocking Girl (Bookbinding Mystery, #1) by Harper Kincaid

Barb, assuming you haven't read it yet, I'm choosing Anthem for Doomed Youth (Daisy Dalrymple, #19) by Carola Dunn for you.

My next five:

The Garden Party by Grace Dane Mazur The Last Train to Key West by Chanel Cleeton Full of Grace by Dorothea Benton Frank The Lion and the Rose (The Borgias, #2) by Kate Quinn Mrs. Lincoln's Sisters by Jennifer Chiaverini

Connie N. | 3775 comments LOL, apparently we're on the same timetable today, Jennifer. I was wondering when the last pick had been on this challenge and decided to check...only an hour after you posted. Congrats, btw, on finishing 5 of your choices. That's quite a collection of lovely covers.

For you I'm choosing Full of Grace by Dorothea Benton Frank - I love that beautiful blue sky above a seaport cityscape. Looks like a nice place to be this lovely weekend.

My next five are all pastel-y covers:

Off Her Game (Texas Highlanders Ice Hockey, #1) by Suzan Butler Every Time You Go Away by Beth Harbison A Bad Day for Sunshine (Sunshine Vicram, #1) by Darynda Jones The Bad Luck Bride (The Cavensham Heiresses #1) by Janna MacGregor The Military Wife (Heart of a Hero, #1) by Laura Trentham

message 570: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Great minds think alike, apparently, Connie! Plus I was becoming gravely concerned that Barb was running out of things to read.

Great pick, btw. I'm savoring the books of hers that I have left. :-)

message 571: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Connie, I'm picking Every Time You Go Away by Beth Harbison for you because I could really use that bottle of wine right about now, even if is it before 5:00pm!

message 572: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Jennifer, I have read -- and enjoyed! -- the book you chose and a couple of the others, so I'll post a new round of books, even if the first two are leftovers from my previous post :)

A Glimmer of a Clue by Daryl Wood Gerber The Night Hawks by Elly Griffiths Draw and Order (A Paint & Shine Mystery Book 2) by Cheryl Hollon Pekoe Most Poison (A Tea Shop Mystery, #18) by Laura Childs The Good Turn (The Cormac Reilly Series Book 3) by Dervla McTiernan

message 573: by Jennifer (last edited May 17, 2021 01:48PM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Ok, Barb, your pick is then The Night Hawks by Elly Griffiths because I like the sensation of looking out into gradually brightening surroundings.

And to get us back on track with a new pick list, here are my next five:

Connie N. | 3775 comments Chelsea, hopefully you haven't yet read: Snowflakes by Ruth Ware

I love the simplicity of it, with the contrast between the water background and the font containing what looks like flames.
