Me too. Staiti does not let us forget Adams' vanity, or his obsession with Posterity, for a moment. I enjoyed the description of Franklin's widespread and somewhat ridiculous celebrity in Paris, and poor John Adams having to suffer through it, particularly after Franklin had stabbed him in the back. I'm sure Ben Franklin had a certain degree of vanity himself, he just knew how to manage it much better. He was a far more skilled politician than Adams.I'm still bitter about Copley not returning to America. He could have given us some amazing portraits.
