A virus originating from China kills 98% of the Earth's population. Those who have survived are known as carriers and are immune, with another small group of people called preppers who have put themselves into isolation, what we in the real world would call survivalists, who stockpile weapons and supplies in the event the end of the world happens. This book follows Graham, a math professor who lost his entire family to the virus, and a collection of children and two other adults he picks up along the way to survive in this new post-apocalyptic world.
I picked this one up from an a promotion Amazon sent me. I had read all the better known books from the list, so this one looked the least ridiculous out of the rest. This is pretty basic writing and the plot is really nothing new. However I found myself drawn to the characters and the situations they found themselves in. My only real gripe with this book is how easy the characters seem to get along. I can understand certain survival instincts kicking in, but everyone after a point gets along so well with and no one has complaints or is suffering from emotional trauma, it is all a little too idealistic. But perhaps that is the goal with the first book. I am interested in seeing what happens with this series, even if it teeters on the cheesy side.
