Jess S (mintchip) | 267 comments A true tell would be if Sarah described Aedions movements to be like a big cats... But I can't remember and I don't have the books on hand to research it. But I doubt she'd wrap that presant so easily

message 57: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 154 comments The ToG series is set in... What, the mediaeval times or something like that? So yeah it wouldnt be too unusual for cousins to, you know... Yeah. But still, I don't think SJM would do that.
Anyone who has read and watch Game of Thrones would know what I mean about incest.

message 58: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Even though ToG is set in medieval times, I think it's way too influenced and adapted by the modern world, a lot of the time you forget it's supposed to be medieval, it's really just the lack of phones and cars that remind you of that. It's still very relatable to the present world, there's just a couple of things that remind you it's still medieval, and some of those things even still happen in some places today. It stays more to the modern world more than anything, I mean we know society was quite gender biased in those times, and the fact that it is a female heroin knocks that out completely. I don't think medieval time things like cousins marrying each other will be brought into the series, it's a modern times influenced medieval fantasy saga.

Yess, I totally agree. It was mentioned a couple of times in the book (where they brought in gender) like that time (I forget who said it) but someone said about Celaena how "if she was a man she could be a politician". And yeah, I don't think Sarah would bring in the whole cousins thing either.

message 60: by Noris (new)

Noris | 574 comments No, and not because of incest. Is just that at this point, Aelin has lost absolutley all her family, Aedion is the last one. Family is sth you always need so I think she would like to keep it just like that... Family and not cousin, brother. I think she looks at him that way!

message 61: by priya (new)

priya (gpriyaa) Samy: yes.

message 62: by Grace Meredith (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Yeah, they should stay loving cousins and that's about it. Otherwise all my love for Chaolaena and Rowaelin would go to waste!

message 63: by Anne (new)

Anne | 4 comments I was just rewatching LOTR and thought that Eomer is pretty close to how I imagine Aedion Ashryver. Eomer and Eowyn ... Aedion and Aelin ... golden-haired warrior siblings/ cousins with alliteration ... hmmm :)

message 65: by Jess S (new)

Jess S (mintchip) | 267 comments Birjis wrote: "Is Manon based on Red riding hood?"

Are you then implying that if Manon is Red Riding Hood then Aedion is the big bad wolf? Cuz I can think of two of the cadre who might better meet that description.

message 66: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Ha, totally see where you are coming from Jess. Where did you hear that Manon might be based on Red Riding Hood? And how so may I ask? She like... I don't know, seems the complete opposite of Red Riding Hood.

message 67: by Jess S (new)

Jess S (mintchip) | 267 comments I was replying to Birjis actually. I can't take credit. Although it would b an amazing twist on such an old fairy tale. Birjis placed her question under Aedions comment section so that's why I thought if man on is red riding hood then Aedions must be her better half haha

message 68: by Jess S (new)

Jess S (mintchip) | 267 comments Although if we're talking twisted fairy tales in reference to Manon being Red Riding Hood. I seriously wouldn't put it past Manons grandmother to eat Manons wayvern.(instead of the wolf being the cannibal he's actually the good guy) If u look at it from that perspective it just turns the whole story on its head!

message 69: by Gaby (new)

Gaby | 36 comments I think Aedion just loves Aelin like an older brother. He is protective of her. Royalty often married cousins in medieval times, but I don't think they look at each other in that way at all. Also, it's not really medieval times because it's not set in our world so it not the 1300s in our world because it's a completely different world.

message 70: by Grace Meredith (new)

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) ANNE. YES. LOTR REFERENCES. Although I imagined Aedion a bit handsomer... Aomer's got that weird turned down nose.

Aelin's world is actually a whole different universe and not the medieval times, so I don't think that the whole cousins-together thing will happen, if we see Sarah.

Manon Blackbeak | 60 comments The moment Aedion was intrduced I fell in love with him!! Aedion is strong, brave, kind and loyal to Aelin. I feel Aedion and Aelin share a strong brotherly sisterly bond and sometimes it feels like they are more brother and sister than cousin.

message 75: by Solaris (last edited Oct 11, 2016 04:55PM) (new)

Solaris (solarisduvaniel) First off let me say that I really appreciate that it was written in Queen of Shadows that Aedion realized he was in love with (in a brotherly-family-way) the idea of Aelin--the memory of Aelin, and that the reality of her was not the memory. And in a good way---he realizes that he very much loves the REAL her, despite the years, the separation, the brutal, bloody reality of Aelin from the idealized imaginary Aelin.

I love me some Aedion brother-cousin-ness, but I can't believe I got so fed up with him in EoS. Maybe I'm so pro-Aelin, and don't mind her flaws as much as others might, but when Aeidon kept nagging on her and then threw all-out accusations/criticisms at her, it made me irate. He needuh chill.

That and poor poor Gavriel :'( I respect Aedion's high emotion where his mother is concerned, but that he feels hatred for Gavriel is hard to take. Ultimately Gavriel didn't do anything wrong, and maybe Aedion just never had a real outlet for the grief of what happened to his mother, so he lashes out at the closest thing to her: his father. It's just...I feel terrible for them both.

I found it crazy how volatile his temperament is, --or maybe that's my bias in thinking that generals in charge of armies have to exercise TONS of control. Fierce, but also controlled, and Aedion's not written as all that controlled here. ⁻\_(ツ)_/⁻ He keeps nagging and then he turns into an all-out hissy-fit thrower. (are those words? lol) --I guess that's how tense things are for them! Knee-deep shiz, as they say? Aelin's twin indeed lol ^^;;;

Aedion, I love you, but it's time to get your zen on. You haven't been reunited with your cousin for all that long, but has she not already proven herself to you a few times over that she can pull a win out of the hat?

I guess that's how family do though: they irk us and we love 'em.

I also found it funny that Aedion is The WOLF of the North, and his father is The Lion. that's cute, but also weird. Given that Fenrys is the 'Wolf of Doranelle' ....it's no big deal, but it would have been a great literary element to have like-father-like-son and they both share the same 'animal' attributes.

Thanks all for letting me share!!

OMG I had this same reaction. I love Aedion, but he needs to chill. I got kinda frustrated at the end of EoS when (view spoiler) I also think it's time he forgave his father. GAVRIEL CAN'T HELP IT IF HE IS (view spoiler) BOUND TO MAEVE OKAY.

message 77: by Solaris (last edited Oct 11, 2016 06:33PM) (new)

Solaris (solarisduvaniel) Are we covering spoilers in this thread? I have no idea how to do that. *sorry!*

warning: spoilers and complaints abound in the following entry

~~

Exactly! We learn that Gavriel didn't know about Aedion, and it was Aedion's mother's choice to die as she did. Yes, sad and bittersweet, but Gavriel honored Aedion's mother's request by staying away (he had no idea!).

I am very grateful to Gavriel ^^;;; Because of him, Aedion exists. And Aelin has blood family. Yay for love childs.

Thank you for NOT being careful, Gavriel! LOL >_>

I think what angered me the most was Aedion's...'benching' in the Dead Marshes right before the ilken hit. Yes, stressful and all their nerves are wearing, but he was there when Brannon spoke to Aelin and told her to get to the Lock in the Dead Marshes, and he was informed that Aelin was overtaken by Deanna and commanded to do the same by her. And he *still* benches and blames Aelin and rubs salt in Darrow's wounds that she has no ally-army. (reminder: Fae males are an army unto themselves, and the gang has 3 of them!) And on that note, stay in the north for what, Aedion? So Darrow can sneer and tear Aelin down some more, and do nothing but wait for the armies of Hel to come to the doorstep? Grrrr.

I think he was throwing a hissy fit in Skull's Bay because he's sweet on Lysandra, and protective of her, but Aelin didn't force Lysandra to do anything she wasn't willing, ----and, as a general---he of all people should understand that even the most well-laid plans can go awry.

Same with the beach scene at the very end when Aelin is taken---he's frightened and stressed out because his greatest fears have come true and his only surviving family is gone/all but dead. But still. Lysandra didn't do it, and was asked not to say anything by Aelin unless the worst came to pass.

*passes Aedion a Xanax and pats him on the back* Bro. Chill.

I think what's going on here is that Aedion is an alpha, and misses the Bane. Being second/third, even to his cousin is wearing on his 'pack leader' persona. He's still adjusting, it seems. lol :)

Michelle | 2 comments I'm so glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed at Aedion's behaviour in the book!

message 79: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 182 comments I agree that Aedion has a serious case of misplaced anger. Not only with Gavriel, Lysandra and Aelin, but also with Dorian. The sins of the father don't extend to the son. And I call bulls*** on his claim of hating Dorian because of his father. In QoS during a flashback, it's said that he was sneering at nine year old Dorian. I think Aedion is simply prejudiced, much like most Adarlanians are prejudiced against foreigners.

Like Le, I believe Aedion is too used to getting his way. He needs to remember he's a -general-, not a lord of Terrasen. Yes, he's a prince, but of the Ashryver line without any ties to House Galathynius despite his claim in QoS. I think that was either bravado or written in error. Generals lead armies, not nations/kingdoms. If Aelin shares her plans with him it's out of courtesy and respect for their relationship, not any obligation. His whole attitude toward his queen seriously irritated me. Hating her for Lysandra's decisions, being angry with her for what Deanna did (because of what happened to Lysandra), blaming the world for making Lysandra want to fight for the world's freedom. I -really- hope someone steps in and puts him in his place. I love his character, and I adore that he's so flawed, but he won't grow if everyone keeps ignoring his issues.

Lauren Lanz (laurenlanz) SPOILERS.... READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED EoS!
Am I the only one who is really hoping that in Kingdom of Ash, Aedion confesses his feelings to Lysandra... I'm really hoping that they can work something out in the final instalment. I just think that they have both been through so much! They didn't end on the best terms in EoS, but I am praying that they can pull through it.
