Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Alrighty, Aficionados, the June group book read is fast approaching so let’s get some ideas rolling. No theme, so go crazy and nominate whatever you like.

Books chosen for a group read within the past 6 months will not be eligible and authors may not nominate their own work.

Please remember, books with multiple nominations are more likely to make it to the final poll.

Go for it! Let’s see what we can come up with for June.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 397 comments I'd like to nominate The Five by Robert McCammon -- I think it's about time we got around to some McCammon in these here parts, and this is heralded as one of his best novels ever, and his first return to horror after a long hiatus. Stephen King said "The Five isn't just Robert McCammon's best novel in years- it is his best novel EVER." ---Jen from Quebec :0)

Matt (mattgodfrey) | 5 comments I vote for Tom Deady's Haven. (On the app so I'm not sure how to make the title a link, sorry.) It just won the Bram Stoker award, and I hear it feels a lot like early McCammon.

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Hi, Mehreen. Please note that authors may not nominate their own work, but feel free to nominate something else.

I'd second that. I love McCammon and haven't read The Five yet. I hadn't heard King say that about the book, but dang if true! Now I know I'll have to read it, though I will be drop dead shocked if I end up liking it better than Boy's Life.

message 8: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Kiernan | 115 comments I'd like to nominate The travelling vampire show by Richard Laymon

message 9: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments Some Will Not Sleep: Selected Horrors is solid horror with excellent narration. I listened to the first couple stories and it would be suitable for HA.

message 10: by Celeste (new)

Celeste (pinkbear) | 37 comments Can we vote for non-fiction like true crime or does it have to be fiction?

message 11: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Petry (bpetry) | 22 comments K.L. wrote: "Jennifer Lynn wrote: "I'd like to nominate The Five by Robert McCammon -- I think it's about time we got around to some McCammon in these here parts, and this is he..."

I too would love to read McCammon (I've been re-reading a bunch of his books the past couple years though I haven't read The Five yet!). He's my favorite since I was a kid and my love of King led me to his books. I've actually heard mixed things about The Five (and I doubt it will surpass Boy's Life or Swans Song) but I'm willing to find out.

message 13: by Kelly B (new)

Kelly B (kellybey) | 630 comments In honor of it being summer, I'd like to nominate Jaws by Peter Benchley by Peter Benchley.

Daniel Dark (goodreadscomdaniel_dark) | 9 comments Depraved by Harold Scheghter or I Ripper by Stephen Hunter

message 17: by Lena (new)

Lena | 2673 comments Good thought Kelly but Jaws is one of those rare ones where the movie was better.

message 18: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea Bradley I'm new here so this suggestion may be something you've already done, but Nick Cutter is one of my favorite horror writers right now and I think The Deep would inspire some excellent discussion and fear. He's a great writer of gore but the psychological factor of this one is on another level entirely.

I'll second Haven by Tom Deady Haven, by Tom Deady, and nominate Ramsey Campbell's Incarnate by Ramsey Campbell Incarnate

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Celeste wrote: "Can we vote for non-fiction like true crime or does it have to be fiction?"

Hi, Celeste. You may nominate whatever you like, however historically we have mainly stuck with fiction type reads. Some non-fiction true crime stories could certainly be categorized as horror though.

I couldn't agree more. I find it hard to believe such a great movie came out of that book. I didn't like it at all.

That's not a bad either. I was a huge John Saul fan..guess I still am, lol, but I will say he kind of dropped off in quality, at least to me around 2000 or so, but I still love his stuff from the 70s, 80s, 90s. (boy does that sound like a plug for a classic radio station...spinning the hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s!)

message 27: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I will second The Traveling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon

I second Nick Cutter! The Troop was awesome and still creeps me out.

message 30: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) | 36 comments I was just at the Stoker Awards, and DEFINITELY want to read Haven. But would also like to nominate What the #@&% Is That?: The Saga Anthology of the Monstrous and the Macabre, because I love reading anthologies during the summer, giving me time while vacationing or relaxing to finish a story here and there.

message 31: by Bryndís (new)

Bryndís | 429 comments Was struggling to choose from your excellent suggestions and decided to look for with ones are available to me.
NONE, dammit! Apparently, Dutch libraries SUCK when it comes to horror...!

So, I guess I'll nominate Darren Shan's Procession of the Dead, because it is on my TBR, It is available to me and I loved reading his books when I was a kid. (this one is actually for grownups)

Procession of the Dead (The City Trilogy, #1) by D.B. Shan

Once Bitten, Twice Die (The Blood of the Infected #1) by Antony J. Stanton

I agree with this nomination. I haven't read McCammon in a long time and want to come back to him and see what he's been up to. The Five gets my vote.

Martyn I'll nominate Once Bitten, Twice Die for it's unique take on the zombie genre

I would vote for either of these as well. This will be a hard choice this month.
