Marcy (marshein) I just finished reading this book, and reviewed it, briefly, on my site. As I said, it wasn't my favorite Wharton (that's The House of Mirth) but it was worth reading. Anybody else read it?

One thing I noticed in this novel that I think is true of Wharton in general: she doesn't follow the old "show don't tell" rule of writing. She does a lot of summations of dialog, or of long time periods, where she does no showing whatsoever. This is not a criticism, but an observation; I don't mind and it doesn't feel like the writing suffers for it.

Anyone have anything to say about this, or about the book?

Marcy (marshein) I would like to move this out of the "Summer" folder but don't know how. Can someone help me?
