Martin Holder | 2 comments I started to read a book 26 years ago, but I dont know how old the book was then. I don't know title or author, but the book starts with a man in his back yard with a rubber glove on trying to clear his drain. He feels a strange sucking sensation and pulls his arm out of the drain only to find his arm missing. That is as much as I can remember about the book. I am trying to find out what the book is and read it finally. Please can anyone help me.

Martin, moving to Unsolved since you're looking for a specific book.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Martin, you might want to put some details (even though you don't remember much) in the header to this thread. Details might get the attention of the right person who remembers this book.

Rachel | 1527 comments It by Stephen King starts with a child losing an arm in a storm drain, which is a little different to your description. (Also it seems unlikely you would have forgotten the evil clown!) But it does fit the time frame as it was published in 1986.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Firestarter (also by Stephen King) has a scene where a man sticks his arm down the drain of an inside sink, to horrifying results.

Rachel | 1527 comments He obviously has a thing about drains! ... there was also The Moving Finger story in Nightmares and Dreamscapes.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Aha! Now we know what scares Stephen King. Drains!

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 257 comments I've been reading Stephen King since I was in the single digits (age-wise) now I understand why I'm nervous around garbage disposals. lol

Martin, do you remember if it was a short story collection or a full book with the arm scene in it?

Martin Holder | 2 comments It's definitely not It or fire starter it's set in America and it's a full book with the scene right at the start. Thanks for the suggestions tho :)

Michele | 2488 comments Do you recall anything about the rest of the book -- did the man survived, did something eventually come out of the drain, did other people get attacked, did they have to fight/kill the thing in the drain, etc.?

Kate (katespofford) | 261 comments I haven't read this, but I wondered if the book might be something along the lines of "alligators in the sewers" and came up with this title:
Croc by David James
