Is anyone else (extra) super mad at the Dursleys this time around? Or is it just me?

I mean, I've always hated the way they treat Harry, but during this read, I'm actually finding this treatment and neglect despicable.

Finally caught up with finishing The Philosophers Stone!!! Rereading the books makes me so happy, I swear I squealed every time that there was a part about Hogwarts and Harry, Hermione and Ron. For example, I was so happy and excited to reread the parts with Diagon Alley, The Sorting Hat and Christmas at Hogwarts!!! And now onto the Chamber of Secrets!!

This was my first time reading this and I can't stand the Dursley's they are just horrible people.

Anyone have any ideas why Harry's such a morally good person after growing up in an abusive household with no one to teach him the right values? (i was gonna make a new discussion topic for this but didnt wanna mess the page up)

Growing up in an abusive household leaves you knowing how to not treat other people. Harry could still use a therapist, but he understands how to *not* treat people. As a kid, it won't be too hard. The hardest part for of life for Harry to show empathy will be when he has his own kids and they act up. I'm sure his spouse will have to convince him that being told to sit in the cupboard for an hour is not a good punishment, and maybe suggest some extra chores instead.

I'd have thought there'd be no way Harry would ever subject his kids to that kind of punishment when he knows how awful it his himself!

I think that every time I reread the series I hate the Dursleys more and more... I don't know, maybe that's because every time I'm older and that kind of treatment pops up even more than when I was a kid :/

When I read it for the first time, I concentrated more on the story as a whole and on all the good things, but now when I'm rereading I can think more about the details...
