I have already read this. I found it somewhat disappointing. I wanted more story, more character development and less....ruminating. No spoilers at this point.
I, on the other hand, loved it. Read it years ago. I agree that it's mostly rumination and little plot, but the atmosphere and feeling of loneliness is so good. (I actually think the George Clooney movie captured that better than the Tarkovsky one, although of course it still had its problems.)
