LaRose by Louise Erdrich

Wonderful writing and a wonderful story - emotional and haunting, full of tradition and humanity.
(Far from being depressing, I found it uplifting)
5 stars.

That's life!

As far as I know with the fast-reading-techniques it's possible to read up to 100,000 pages per month. I was wondering that same think some years ago as well.
The other thing I noticed in some of my challenges is that many of the Asian readers have often much higher page counts and I was wondering if they have different kind of page formats due to their scripture or if they just need to space to express the same thought (German translation of English book are usually about 40 percent longer only due to the language differenc) - perhaps Amber can help to answer that question.

message 162: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Agnieszka, that is so interesting to me! I've notice how much shorter English is to, say, German and Spanish when the translations are next to each other. Aren't Asian symbols made up of words rather than letters? That would seem to make reading much faster!

That's was my assuption as well, though gramar and sentence sturcture can add sometimes in terms of length.

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments Here's my review for Lolas' House: Filipino Women Living with War
Lolas' House Filipino Women Living with War by M. Evelina Galang

The women in this book became very real to me, and they will stay in my mind for a long time. I was glad to witness their accounts.

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments Finished reading And Then There Were None and I absolutely loved it. Thanks :)

Here's my review (not good at it): https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Also looking forward to reading Dark Matter, but then I also have to read The Stand, so lets see how it goes.

message 166: by Sue (new)

Sue Davisson | 12 comments I love the Stand, fav. novel. I have read it 5-6 times usually around 4th of July!

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments Sue, You read The Stand 5 or 6 times, Wow, Amazing

This will be my first S. King novel... and it's the longest of all, knocking 1,400+ pages ☺

message 169: by Aesaan (new)

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments And also, Sue, you got me excited for the book even more than before ☺

message 170: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Just finished the first of my June books Buried (Bone Secrets, #3) by Kendra Elliot and loved it so much. So far it's the best on in the series and since the first was the weakest I'm looking forward to the next one - looks like her books get better and better :-)
Thank you all, for picking it.
Now I'm looking forward to start the other June book: A Spy Came Home and hope to finally finish my May books.

message 171: by Ann (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments Ok, Agnieszka, I'm going to look out for that one.

I hope you like it as well - the genre is romantic suspense :-)

message 173: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments Finally started my June read Full Dark, No Stars :-) so running behind yet again lol

message 174: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I am about 25% through my June read Presumed Guilty. It is so so. It will be a quick read. She is one of my favorite authors, but this was before she was mainstreamed and just wrote some mediocre romance novels. So it is predictable and cliche, but am happy to read it and knock it off my list.
