Think about how the setting of this story and the global context in which we find our characters. How would they be different people in a modern setting, and would that have changed their paths?

Raeann | 21 comments Well I do not know much (nothing really) about the modern society in the various places she lived, but what I can speculate about is modern USA. First, being pregnant out of wedlock would not (possibly) have been so shamed, it probably would not have been kept a secret, and she probably would not have 'had' to marry Albert. I feel like there would have been many more options for her. Their paths could have still followed a similar course, but I am guessing she would have found much more support starting with her first pregnancy allowing her to continue her education and career path. Possibly keeping her from having a second and third child. However, in modern USA her first child may not have died therefore not setting her on the course to realize relativity. the what ifs are endless (just as the what were's seem to be)

I think if this story were to happen in modern day, we would celebrate these two individuals instead of only Albert. We probably would be way too preoccupied with her wardrobe. ;0)
