Heather | 8548 comments Wow, we're into the 4th (or 5th for some parts of the world) day of this month. I'm such a slacker! As is for all of us, there are times when real life gets in the way. I love reading and commenting and especially learning in this group so for me it's a nice repose from life for a few minutes.

That said, thank you everyone who is reading and especially commenting on your books.
Again I will ask how are we doing with our challenge? I just like to know.

I'm still reading the same book. It is daunting to look at it's size but I am still enjoying it.

Heather | 8548 comments And I want to thank Luis, Deborah and Aloha for introducing and reviewing some new books! Everyone is welcome to do the same!

Poly Ethylene I a have been unable to write here for a long time because Goodreads wouldn't accept my email address. I still don't understand why.

I was wondering what happened to you, Poly. Welcome back!

Poly Ethylene Thanks Heather ,
I have some messages composed but I forgot how to post pictures here. Can you send me instructions again. I haven't had time to review all the writing here so I'll post in a short while.
Thanks, Poly

No problem. And if anyone else can explain this better, please do!

Right in front of the img at the beginning, place a < If I post the whole thing it will just come out blank without a link. I hope this makes sense!

Poly Ethylene Phyllida Barlow reviewed in the "Guardian." and my comment ...
This is just a bit of what inhabits the very bottom of the Modern Academic Art toilet. As the Official Modern Art Establishment continues making fortunes pushing this sort of crap and prevents the media from printing any voice from the other side while controlling what is allowed in the modern sections of museums, this toilet will grow and continue filling.
Read about it in “Modern Art Future Garbage”.

Thank you for the book suggestion, Poly. I am dismayed at the fact that the media doesn't print any sort of opposing views to different works. Why can only critics interpret or assess artworks? I whole heartedly agree with you.

Heather | 8548 comments My home page says I am one book behind in my goal. I think I mentioned that I am reading a fairly hefty book right now and it is taking a bit longer to finish. But I took a break for a couple of days and read Letters for Emily. I will do a review as I found it an excellent book! I don't have much time right now but wanted to let you know it's coming!

And of course, this thread is still ongoing for the month of May, does anyone else have something they would like to share?
Go for it!

AJ It does bother me that realism or traditional painters beyond the era of "the masters" have been pushed into frameshops and outdoors outlets like Scheels.

We need a revolution, from the revolution.

I haven't time right now to look them up for you, but there are lots of realistic painters showing in good galleries and museums.

AJ That may be Ruth, I have to admit I haven't been to either in a while.

Geoffrey Aronson (geaaronson) | 930 comments Okay, I guess. Heather your point about only the critics getting their say is spot on, and for the most part even those dissenting critics get shunted aside. I would have gladly subscribed to Art in America or any of its competitors had they had a monthly column of various viewpoints. There´s a very astute weekly news magazine that has been published for ten years or more in which on any given political issue, the editors condense editorials nationwide of the best, regardless of the viewpoint.

Why the art magazines can´t do the same beats me. They could for example, take the earliest Abstract Expressionists, Frankenthuler, Kline, Pollock, Newmann, etc. and argue their merit in today´s contemporary art landscape Or discuss the worth of today´s Pop Art, or the Italian neo expressionists, Sondra Chia or Francesco Clemente. Let the critics battle it out periodically in the art news media and note upcoming issues for debate to allow lay people like ourselves to send in winning essays. But then there isn´t much creativity to the art media.

AJ I would seriously be interested in a non-biased political news source.

Heather | 8548 comments That's a good book when you get almost to the end and still don't know how it will finish. I would like to read your review on thay one Luis!
