One of the job responsibilities of the Ego is to pull together all your quirks, characteristics, beliefs and values that you hold dear and call it your Self. The Ego guards this sense of Self very closely, and is resistant to anything that gets in the way, or resentful of anyone who questions it.
The Soul's path is to take down that identity that the Ego so jealously holds together. This is the spiritual journey that we tread over and over again, life after life.
HERE'S AN EXAMPLE: One of the characteristics I identify with is that I'm an introvert, so I reiterate it over and over to myself and use it as an excuse to not take pictures, not showing up on live video, not extending myself to opportunities that come up, even when they're clearly on my soul's path. So this one quirk or characteristic holds me back in a big way!
FOR TODAY, TRY THIS SIMPLE EXPERIMENT: Think of a quirk or a belief that's always been yours. How has it helped you? How has it hurt you? And just for experiment's sake, think of letting it go. How would your life change if you let go of it? Does it feel terrifying to lose your sense of identity? Or does it feel freeing?
