Heather and Lara

He was lighter because he was thinner than he should be, but his height spoke for quite a bit of weight and Lexi found herself panting softly. "You can have a bath, while I make you food." She decided. "Unless you need help with a bath." She added, realizing that he may be too weak to do even that on his own. She looked up at him in question. "Do you need help? Because if you do, I don't mind. But if you do mind, then I don't mind you skipping the bath, as long as you're ok with that." She told him, blushing softly.
She helped him walk down to his bedroom so he could get a change of clothes. Sitting him down on the bed gently, she made sure he was not going to topple over, before she walked to his closet. "What do you want?" She asked, not sure where to find any of his clothes for him.

"Thank you, Lexi," chase said earnestly, taking a deep breath to relax himself. The mention of food made his stomach growl, a sharp pain gnawing away at his insides. "I... I can try..." Chase murmured doubtfully. His body just felt gross from the uncleanliness he wasnt used to having, his clothes wrinkled and smelling of old sweat from when he had overworked himself. "I... I might need you, though, just in case," chase adde softy, a bit sheepish.
He didnt know what he'd do with his wings, as it took a fraction of his essence when he made his wings disappear, knowing he couldn't exactly spare any. Chase decided tht he'd take some of lexis, in hopes of it helping him to recover.
Chase peered into his closet from a distance, before giving up on straining his eyes and simply tryin to remember what clothes e had. "Some sweat pants, and an old tshirt, the one in the left drawer," he instructed, rubbing his eyes. The walk in master bedroom closet had a drawer on one wall, as nobody shared the closet wih him, giving him an extra space. The closet was decently filled with clothes of all attires, thanks to Amanda's shopping habits. His work clothes occupied one corner, the rest of it evenly spaced out to look full.

When Chase gave her instructions on clothes, Lexi immediately searched the drawers, finding the sweatpants with ease. She tossed them on the floor before searching for the left drawer. She found it and pulled it open. The t-shirt was there, a dark grey, and thin with age, but soft. Shutting the drawers again, she picked up the sweat pants and walked back over to him.
She had to put the clothes down on the bed while she got his arm around her once more, before walking slowly towards the bathroom. When they finally reached it, Lexi gently put Chase down on the back of the toilet seat, dumping his clothes on the counter top before shutting the door and going over to the tub. While she was turning on the water, she asked over her shoulder, "Do you need help changing?" It was a simple question, not accusing or mocking, just plain, yes or no answer question. She needed to know if she had to help him or not.
She got the water flowing and put her hand under the nozzle as she adjusted the temperature to get it warm, but not too hot.

"I've got it, I think," chase grimaced, forcing himself to sit up. Swears ran through his mind as his body threatened to keel over, his arms extremely sore. Button by button, chase undid his shirt from the Saturday night date, silently wondering where his Bowtie had ended up. His shirt was tossed to the floor carelessly, his head throbbing because he had accidentally looked into the shiny reflection of the overhead light on the shower door handle. Spots, spots everywhere... He had hesitant thoughts to not continue with it, but decided to press on. He felt he smelled funny.
Chase managed to very gingerly tug off his socks, before unbuttoning his pants and shimmying out of them. It left him sitting in his boxers on the toilet seat, his cheeks and tips of his ears taking on a pink tinge. God, this was so embarassing. "The water good?" Chase sighed, reluctant to be taking off what was left. He avoided lexis eyes, feeling awkward and out of place. He just wanted to get this oer with.

Then again, she didn't want him to slip and hurt himself, so she was a little reluctant about leaving him around water by himself. Gosh. I'm treating him like a toddler. She thought to herself with slight amusement. She looked away from him, dipping her fingers into the warm water and swirling them around lazily. "You could put on a towel while I helped you into the tub or something..." She offered, trying to think of options to help him out. But then there was the problem of washing and getting out again. She sighed softly. This was a problem, wasn't it?

Chase rethought Lexi being present and helping him bathe, the whole situation a bit off. Sure she was his girlfriend, so why not? But... "Y-you can leave if you want... But I don't think I can do this myself," chase admitted, his eyes locking accidentally with lexis. Her hair was still wet, tickling the arm around her neck. "It's not everyday I get naked in front of a girl," chase muttered with a nervous laugh, his eyes tearing away from hers to the water. "Hope you don't mind," chase sighed at last, using his free hand to tug off the last article of clothing on him, his face heating as he stumbled slightly.
With lexis help, he managed to step into his tub, marveling at how much effort it took to step inside without slipping or sloshing the water everywhere. Chase stifled a yelp of pain that surged through his calves as he lowered himself with lexis help into the bathtub, clinging desperately to a little shelf on his other side inside the shower with Lexi steadying his other arm. "Thanks," he murmured, regaining his breath and letting his vision swirl. The stress of staying safe and nt falling in the bathtub had taken off the uneasy edge he had had earlier, his head now throbbing and lightheaded from the constant up and down after two days of laying down.

Lexi immediately moved to assist him standing, and managed, with great effort, to get him standing once more. She nodded, neither thankful nor regretting that he needed her help. She was willing and eager to help him whowever needed. She blushed softly when he said he didnt often get naked in front of girls. It both made her feel special, and completely embarrased. She felt him shift to finish unchanging, and as much as it was tempting to look down, lexi forced herself to keep her eyes straight ahead.
"I dont mind." She assured him, helping him over to the tub. It was quite the task to lower him slowly without having him slip. However, with no small amount of strength and a great deal of luck, they finally got him in the tub. Lexi was panting, but her focus was him ane not herself.
She grabbed a bar of soap and carefully placed it in his hands. She hoped he could wash himself, as helping with that would take things to a whole other level she was still a little nervouse about. Her eyes wandered dangerously low and she blushed beet red, jerking them away again. Determined to help however possible, she squirted a generous dollop of pearl colored shampoo into her hand and slowly started to massage it into Chase's hair and scalp, adding palmfulls of water as she worked.

Chase took the soap from Lexi, only after she held it in front of his face before he almost blacked out. "Thanks," chase coughed, scrunching his body up to face the wall opposite of her, as she began to wash his hair. He laughed softly in an attempt to clear his head and lighten the mood, feeling lexis fingers massage his head. He felt like a little kid again during bath time, except his shampoo smelled a little more manlier. "This is ridiculous," chase sighed, lathering the soap in his hands before he began to scrub himself down, what he felt had to be sweat, oil, and grime from his body.
Chase was a bit of a neat freak, everything had to be clean, and he couldn't have his skin feeling sticky. The water splashed around him as he coated his body in a thin layer of bubbles, a very slow process as he had taken frequent breaks. Chase closed his eyes once he was finished, relaxing in the warm water. Just feeling lexis fingers tangle in his blonde hair, the soap trickling down his neck, made shivers run down his spine. "I apologize, I'll be needing assistance for a few days, until I can stand by myself," chase frowned a the shower wall, his speech slow.

Lexi smiled softly to herself when she heard what he muttered. "Maybe." She agreed, shrugging. "But you make an adorable wittle baby." She teased, pulling up his hair into a Mohawk before rubbing the suds in again. The soap was well worked into his hair by now, so she was mostly just massaging his head with her fingers. She hoped to makehim feel a little better by doing this. She knew massaging her own temples helped get rid of nausea, so who knows, maybe it would help him.
She pulled down the shower head from the wall and turned it on, spraying clear water over his head, causing the suds to run down his neck and over his back into the water. Once his hair was rinsed, she turned off the shower head and hung it up again, befere moving her hands to his shoulders and starting to massage there.
Her thumbs worked in small firm circles, and she could feel the tension in his muscles loosening beneath them. She smiled. "No problem Chase. I really dont mind helping you you know. I owe it to you for saving my life, one, and two, I love you and want what is best for you. I am glad I can help." She insisted, smiling. She really did want to help him, and she didnt mind one bit.

"Adorable wittle baby?" Chase repeated, scoffing. He squeezed his eyes shut to try and relieve the white spots, finding that it didnt do much to help him out. "Why am I the- oh... Well..." Chase murmured, seeing her point. "I'm a grown, mature man of 27, thank you," he laughed softly, leaning his back into the tub walls, his legs bent criss cross comfortably, with warm water lapping at his chest with every movement. The awkwardness of it all was gone, the two of them seemingly relaxed. He had to admit, that lexi's head massage was killer. The dizzy sensation seemed to fade away, the blood flowing through his head smoothly now.
Chase moved to allow for the shower head to wash over his hair, then his shoulders. He felt fresh now, the smell and disgusting feel of his skin having been washed away. Chase raked his fingers through his hair, ruffling it into his usual style the best he could while still wet. Otherwise, he'd look like a wet cat with his hair matted to his forehead, and that was the last thing he wanted Lexi to see. She wouldn't let him forget it. Lexis hands rested on his shoulders, causing him to freeze. It was different, feeling lexis fingers working into his shoulders and back. Chase let out a few content sighs, hunching his elbows into his thighs and putting his head in his hands.
The massages were definitely working, as his body began to loosen up. The blood was circulating, with the knotted pains from sleeping two days straight with his wings bent up behind him having not been the most comfortable thing to wake up to. He looked up at Lexi when she spoke again, his head twisted despite the crick that ached in his neck. "You're so sweet, baby, I really owe it to you," chase sighed. He tilted his head back in lexis lap, bringing lexis head down closer to his lips. "I love you so much," chase expressions softened, his blue eyes sincere before he kissed her gently. A surge of energy warmed him, providing a little boost of energy.

Lexi laughed softly. "I am well aware that you are a mature man." She teased. "But right now, you're my wittle baby and its going to stay that way until you can take care of yourself again." She said with finality, smiling gently at him. She watched as his body slowly loosened and relaxed. As he relaxed, she did as well, happy that she could make him feel better.
She didn't stop massaging until his head tipped back into her lap. She smiled down at him, completely warmed to the core by his words. When he kissed her sweetly, Lexi felt something in her stirr and her hands moved to cup his face. She kept kissing him for a long minute, unwilling to pull away from him and disconnect the kiss. While they kissed, Lexi's glow grew slightly brighter. She didnt notice though, and she only brokethe kiss to catch her breath. As she did, she gazed down into Chase's mesmerizing blue eyes, a shy smile on her features.

"I don't wanna!" Chase laughed, in higher spirits now that he was in a better condition. The wonders a massage could do for him. Chase heaved an exaggerated sigh, melting into lexis arms. "Fine, I'll be your wittle baby- only until I get better, then I'm a macho man," he insisted, fixing his legs so that they were pulled up to his chest, his crotch strategically covered from view. This wasnt so bad after all, and he didnt feel like blacking out. Not yet, anyway. Lexi had unknowingly transmitted some of his essence back to him through her fingertips, in a will to help him get better.
Chase's palm kept lexis face close to his, their noses rubbing against each other as they kissed passionately. He was filled with such a deep emotion, a deep love for this red head he had met not more than a week ago. He loved her, and would do anything. Anything for her. Kissing Lexi upside down had been interesting, but he liked how natural it seemed to work. Chases hand stroked her cheek lovingly even after she had broken them off, his eyes lost in hers. "You're a good kisser as well," chase murmured, offering a slight smile. The water around him had begun to become cold, and the aspect of food called out to him.
Chase pulled away from Lexi, his finger arching the ring of the tub stopped and giving it a tug. An underwater tornado that always seemed to fascinate him sucked all the sudsy water down the drain, a thin film of the soap remaining on his skin as the water level sank. He was mezmerized by the waters draining, until the tub was empty. He managed to flick the water on by himself, rinsing his skin under the faucet before becoming self consious again about his nudity. "Uh... Towel?" Chase asked sheepishly, biting his cheek.

Lexi jolted back to reality, blushing profusely. "O-of course." She stammered, turning quickly to hide her face as she stood and grabbed the nearest towel, dumping it on him. She let him wrap it around himself, before she knelt down beside him and wrapped his arm around her shoulder again, slowly helping him to straighten and step precariously out of the tub. Staying where she was, she made sure he stayed standing while he dried himself, which turned out to be quite the feat, but they managed. She helped him to the toilet once more so he could change.
"What sort of food would you like?" She asked, staying in the room just incase he toppled over. She kept her eyes away from him though, to give him privacy as he changed. She brought over a brush for him as well. "Because I can make anything you want." She offered.

"I'm fine," chase finally murmured after a couple minutes, shaking off the dizziness knowing that just standing there wouldn't help him. He was sat on the toilet seat, the towel wrapped around his waist. His hair and shoulders dripped water down his back, creating small puddles by his feet on the bath mat. He slowly dried himself off, frequenting rests after each limb was dried off. Deoderant was slsthered under his armpits, and his hair was dried somewhat in a messy nest on top of his head. Once that was accomplished, his clothes were slipped on, with extra balancing support from Lexi. "Phew! That took longer than it should have..." He apologized, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
The mention of food made his stomach ache with longing, his face scrunching up as he thought about what little he had in his fridge and pantry. "Grilled cheese," he murmured thoughtfully, a little lost. How would his stomach take food? "I would like a grilled cheese sandwich, please," chase pleaded, reaching out his arms for her help again. "By the time you're finished carrying me around, you'll be so muscular, you know that?" Chase teased, playfully ruffling her hair and hugging her side best he could. He was helped back into the living room, where he crashed on the couch and released his wings once again to preserve his energy. Chase snatched his phone off the table, turning it on to no battery. Useless. This was tossed to the side, figuring he'd just call work later.

She started to walk towards the kitchen, but then stopped, looking back at him. "Can I leave you alone for a minute?" She teased, raising an eyebrow. "Just dont fall off the couch on me ok? I dont know if I can lift you back on." She said honestly. Yes, she was stronger than most girls, but she was weaker than most guys. She watched him for one more second, making sure he looked ok, before walking over to the fridge and starting to pull out what she would need.
Cheese, bread, and butter were collected and dumped on the counter. She got out a frying pan and set it on the stove, greasing it with the butter before turning on the heat. Then she glanced back at Chase to make sure he hadn't injured himself, before starting to butter two slices of toast. She was worried about him. She knew he was extremely weak by the way he staggered when she carried him and almost passed out each time he stood. Hat she was worried about was that he wouldnt get better.
Lexi plopped one peice of bread, butter side down, into the frying pan and lay some slices of cheese across it, before putting on the other peice, butter side up. She let it toast for a while, before flipping it over. Two minutes later, it was just perfectly toasted, and she dumped it onto a plate. After makijg one more, she turned off the stove and went to the fridge. "Ketchup?" She asked him, ready to pour some on or put it back depending on what he liked.
Then she brought the plate over and set it down as she helped him sit up a little bit, making sure to move slowly. Then she handed the plate to him and smiled. "Hope you like it." She said. Then she frowned a little in worry. "And your stomach holds." She added. If he couldnt hold down food they would have a serious problem.

Chase blushed apologetically, feeling extremely guilty for making his girlfriend do so much for him. He silently decided that he'd take her out somewhere extremely special, take her on a vacation or something. The girl deserved it. "At least I've dropped some weight, and I'm not so heavy anymore," he laughed weakly. He had Ben in good shape before he passed out, and now his muscles were quite... Poor. They were still there, but not as firm as they used to be. The essence that had left him had weakened his body in more ways than he imagined, even breathing felt harder.
"Thanks, love, I'll be right here," chase joked, knowing he wouldn't ev able to go anywhere. It brought out a humorous side in him, this nt being able to go anywhere thing. "Lex, I'll be fine, stop worrying about me!" Chase protested, feeling absolutely pampered. To top it off, he had asked for grilled cheese. What a child. But hey, when you were sickly like he was, comfort food was the first pick. Chase stayed sitting up with his back sunken into the couch, his feet plantedin the floor underneath his socks. Outside, it seemed like a cold breeze was blowing through New York, as September rolled around. Goodbye, August, goodbye tshirts and jeans. From here on out, jackets everyday.
Chase listened to Lexi in the kitchen, closing his eyes to the sizzle of his grilled cheese in the pan. Pretty soon, the warm cheesy smell was enough to make his stomach growl in approval, nearly drooling at the thought of the melted cheese and the toasted bread. "No thanks," chase answered a bit hungrily to her offer of ketchup, anxious to start eating. He was also worried about how his stomach would hold down food after two days of fasting. The plate was settled on his lap, a soft sigh escaping chase's lips. "Thank you, so so much," he said gratefully, already the grilled cheese by his lips.
Chase ate ravenously, hardly leaving time between bites to chew and nearly choking a few times. It was a bit embarassing, and he would have never eaten that way in front of Lexi, but his body wanted the food. Strongly. After the first sandwich, chase felt a bit energized, with something in his stomach. The second sandwich was just enough to satisfy him, crumbs spilled all over his lap despite the plate. "I needed that," he murmured with a sigh of agreement, waiting to evaluate his stomach situation. Like any normal day, his stomach had accepted the food, and hadnt forced chase to regurgitate.
"That was some killer grilled cheese, thanks," he praised, kissing her cheek and resting himself back into the couch, the need to eat having been quenched. He was one happy wittle baby, and all he wanted now was to cuddle with Lexi. He brushed off the crumbs on his clothes onto his plate, sliding the plate onto the coffee table. Chase wrapped an arm around lexis shoulders gingerly, bringing her closer to him. "You'd be a good nurse, lex," he said thoughtfully into the silence. It didnt matter if she actually had her degrees. Her fake ones she used to get into the hospital were good enough; he'd teach her what she needed to know. How would the hospital react when he came back with Lexi?

Lexi sat beside him, smiling a little in amusement as he ate. "You sure were hungry." She commented when he was finished. She didn't mind how he had eaten. Yes, it surprised her, but he had a good excuse. Once he had finished the sandwich, Lexi waited for the moment of truth to see if he would throw it up or not. She heaved a sigh when it looked like he was accepting the food. Good. That meant he was on the road to recovery. She let the constant tension she had been holding go when she noticed the slight rose that had returned to Chase's cheeks, taking away the sickly demeanor he had had before.
Lexi blushed at his compliment of her cooking and she gave him a little bow. "Why thank you." She leaned against him when he pulled her closer, hesitant at first to lean on him because she was afraid of toppling him over. But then she leaned her head gingerly on his shoulder. She laughed softly at his comment about being a nurse. "Hah. You were there. Were you like, not watching me at all or something? I almost killed a child by playing with a heart monitor, remember?" She asked, shaking her head. "Nurse." She laughed softly. "I am many things Chase, yes, but nurse is not one of them. I'm horrible at caring for kids." She sighed softly.
"You on the other hand..." She tipped her head back to smile up at him. "You love those kids. I can see it in your eyes when you talk to them." She said, smiling a little to herself. She found herself thinking about parenthood, and kids, and how he would make an amazing father. One thing led to the next and she blushed profusely, trying to bring her thoughts back to the present. "You're really good at your job." She finished, trying to break the awkwardness.
As Lexi and Chase cuddled, each touch was like an electric pulse of essence that passed into Lexi. Chase wasn't loosing any of his, mind you, Lexi was just gaining essence, as the stuff already in her grew stronger with each second she was close to Chase. It was filling her like helium fills a balloon. Lexi started to feel both lightheaded and amazingly wonderful at the same time. She felt like she could just float away, and that was exactly what she had the urge to do. Just jump off some high place so she could float away on the breeze. She started grinning like a giddy girl, half of her wanting to just jump up and run right off the balcony.

"You didnt almost kill her....!" Chase protested again, wishing Lexi could see the potential he did. "You just... Didnt know," he put simply, resisting the urge to laugh. Her first day had been a mess, but a fun one at that. Chase sighed, shaking his head stubbornly. "It just takes a little time, just like I couldn't be an agent on the first day," chase pointed out. He reluctantly gave in to lexi's firm standing on her and nursing, the answer being a definite no. He'd try again later. "You're not horrible, how would you know? When was te last time you babysat?" Chase raised an eyebrow, feeling like he would maybe win at least this part of the argument. "You're a girl. Girls are good at caring for little kids, just naturally," he kissed her cheek, feeling triumphant.
Chase's cheeks flushed a light pink at her compliment, the fact that shed even noticed his attitude at work and how he interacted with the kids surprising him. He hadnt even really noticed that it showed. "I do love them... I get a little attatched," he laughed weakly, shaking his head. "I don't know, they're like a part of me or something," he added truthfully, gnawing on his bottom lip as his blue eyes wandered around the room slowly.
His attention returned to Lexi, his eyes twinkling like they normally did again. His eyes weren't that dull, cold blue anymore, he actually had a bit of color. His essence was coming back. "Thanks, lex," he murmured softly, noticing with amusement that she was blushing. It seemed like she was being awkward, about what he had no idea. "Your cheeks are a little red," chase teased, brushing a finger across her nose. "You're really good at your job, too... I would have never guessed that you're an agent, sent to hunt me down," Chase mused, unable to imagine any work of cruelty against him by Lexi.
They cuddled together on the couch, Lexi practically sitting on his lap as he squeezed her for warmth, his head buried in her shoulder sleepily. He truly did feel like a little kid again. He remembered that he could always turn his age back to however little he wanted, and reminded himself to give Lexi a scare when his essence had fully recovered. Chase lifted his head after a few minutes of silence, his blue eyes locking with hers. "So.. What are we now?" Chase asked softly, his finger twirling a long loose red lock absently. They'd only known each other for a week, and chase felt like he could marry her, live the rest of their immortality together.

His comment about her cheeks being red just caused her to flush brighter. She fidgeted a little, folding and unfolding her hands in her lap. Then she looked up at him shyly. "I was just thinking how you would be a good father..." She said softly, looking down again as she blushed harder.
Then she smiled softly. "Thanks. But I think you did notice that something was wrong. Seeing that I didn't know how to do anything..." She said shaking her head and laughing. "But I may be able to match you in a fight." she teased. "Especially when you're in this condition. But hey, even when you're healthy. You never know..." She grinned.
Then she thought for a moment. What were they exactly? It was a good question. Lexi chewed her lip. She wanted to be with Chase as much as possible. But what did that mean? What did that make them? "Well. I'm yours if you'll have me." She said softly, resting her head on his chest, her hand in front of her drawing slow circles on his shirt. What were they? Lexi wasn't entirely sure.

Lexis cheeks grew to an even more frightening shade of red, with a bashful look on her face. "Me, a good father...?" Chase repeated, his own face reddening. No wonder she was blushing. Why was she even- chase cut himself off, his thoughts of what the future would bring them quieted. He shouldn't get ahead of himself. What if Lexi found someone else? The thought was unbearable, but it was a possibility. "All the same, I think you'd make an even better mother," chase murmured softly. "Especially when it comes to bath time," he teased lightly.
The topic of parents brought on by lexi's weird thinking. It was still a little early for them to be discussing the topic- he hated the awkwardness of them, having already been through it with Amanda. "Nah, I just thought you were one of those nurses," he quoted with his fingers. "Are you joking? I can take you on easy," chase growled playfully, nudging her shoulder with his fist. "We'll see about that, he rolled his eyes, disbelieving that a small girl like her could take him on.
"Wonderful," chase perked up, sitting up to fce Lexi. His eyes locked with lexi's, taking his hands on hers. "Lexi James, will you be my girlfriend?" He asked dramatically, grinning like a fool. It would be a cruel joke for her to say no, even worse for her to mean it. Them going out was the first real step in their relationship, right?

She blushed softly at his compliment. "Why thank you." She bowed. Then she grinned. "Bathing you was fun. You're my wittle baby, remember?" She asked, grinning at him. Then she laughed when he talked about her being one of those nurses. "Oh I was, was I?" She asked. "Well this nurse definitely can take you on big boy." She grinned, teasing. "I had to have some skill that got me my job." She laughed, relaxing back confidently. "I can hold my own among assassins." She said, shrugging as if it was an everyday thing.
Lexi blushed then, looking up into his blue eyes. "Yes!" She squeaked, hugging him. She sighed happily, before pulling back so she could kiss him.

"Thank you, I guess," chase laughed, his heels rosy from blushing. Being a good father was a goal he had, but he saved it for the future. He had always wondered in his immortality, how many women he'd fall for, how many children he'd have to worry about. With Lexi potentially becoming his future wife, if he was lucky, it was hard to judge. "I guess when we have children, our kids will be pretty lucky to have us," chase joked, hoping e wasnt the only one who wanted their future.
"Have you bathed babies before?" Chase asked mock suspiciously, wiggling his eyebrows. "Or men?" He was a little curious as to who had been before him, or if he was really the first one in lexis life. He just hoped her policeman father was a nice guy. "Hey, you're not a nurse, you're an agent posing to be a nurse," chase pointed out. "But ican still take you down, no problem... Look at these scrawny... Ooh," chase squeezed her upper arm muscles, finding that there was a bit more there than she showed. "It'll be a fair fight, at least," he joked, dropping his hand to her lap and returning the other arm around her shoulders.
He grunted wih the sudden impact of Lexi hugging him, altogether relieved she had said yes. "Geez, excited much?" He grinned, using as much effort he could to pull Lexi into his lap comfortably. She hugged him with that death grip of hers, t he possibility that she could beat him up easily growing in his mind. "I love you," Chase murmured against her lips, closing his blue eyes and kissing Lexi delicately. His larger hands settled on her waist, his head tilted slightly up to kiss her soft red lips. Lexi was gorgeous, and he was lucky he had her.

Then she blushed at his question, recognizing right away that it implied a deeper meaning. She chewed her lip for a moment, wondering how to explain this. "Yes." She said softly, sighing. "But not in the way that you are implying. I worked in a hospital for soldiers for a while, only because they were short of people and I was in the area. That job required taking care of a lot of injured men. So no. You aren't the first I've seen." She said honestly. Then she looked down. "Nor kissed actually. I got stuck in a tricky situation in my teen years. A gang almost got me." She said, shaking her head as she tried to push the memories away. "I got away though. So I have never gone past kissing with anyone." She said honestly, blushing a little.
To have seen so much in war and in the field, you would have though Lexi lost some of her innocence, but she didn't. She was still every bit as curious and innocent as she was when she was 13. She laughed a little when he found that she had more muscle then first appeared. She flexed a little for him, growling. "You better watch out Chase. Wouldn't want a girl beating you in a fight now would you?" She asked, teasing.
Lexi let up on the force of her hug a little, "Sorry." She apologized as she caught her breath from the kiss before returning to it with a passion. As they kissed, Lexi felt herself grow lightheaded and that wonderful feeling strengthened. Now the air was just calling to her and she itched to jump into it and float away. Now this wouldn't have been a problem if she actually was a young angel and had wings. But of course, she didn't. Never the less, the urge was still there.
It grew so strong that Lexi broke away from the kiss. "I have to go outside." She whispered, her glow stronger now. She had this blissfully happy look on her features. She got up slowly, staring at the blue expanse that was just starting to tinge orange with the sunset. "I have to go outside and float away on a breeze." She said, her words and her actions slow as if she was in a dream. She started walking towards the door.

Chase relented with satisfaction at lexis agreement, feeling overall triumphant. "Ha," he grinned, his finger brushing the tip of her nose. "Thanks lex, it means alot to me," chase admitted, his lips touching her forehead briefly. His heart fluttered in excitement and anticipation, the thought of a family beginning to make him wonder. He didnt want to be all alone, even if his offspring would die sooner than he did. Especially when children, their big toothless smiles an obnoxious giggling, made him happy. Chase squeezed lexis shoulder in agreement, sighing softly.
One of chase's blonde eyebrows lifted above his blue eyes, his attention captured. Yes. So who? He began to breathe again as she explained, just the thought of her heart belonging to another man making his heart twist with jealousy. Not that he was in any place to be jealous, as he and Amanda had gone as far as engagement in their seven year realationship. "So there, you have played nurse before! Maybe you'd do we'll in the ER department," chase mused, debating on wether to let her go or not.
"That was your first kiss experience?" Chase balked, a bit surprised. A gang situation was never good. Never. "That's a little... Scary," chase shuddered, mumbling under his breath. "For being so tough, you're really innocent," chase cooed teasingly, grinning ear to ear. On the topic of muscles, chase slowly flexed his own, lifting his shirt sleeve. "Eh, you're a little puny in comparison," chase shrugged nonchalantly, obviously toying with Lexi. "A girl wouldn't beat me in a fight, love, so nice try," he sneered, sticking his tongue out. Obviously, Lexi could win instantaneously because he would never throw a single punch at her. Ever.
As they kissed, chase felt his body surge with his essence, the strength in his arms and legs gradually regaining themselves. He couldn't help but out of desperation steal back some of him from lexis spirit, his skin glowing briefly. Now he was at the status of a human being, a few days from his complete recovery. It had taken less than he had expected, telying on lexis essence to help him out. "Don't be," chase breathed, before her lips locked with his. Chase peeked a blue eye open, his cry muffled by lexis mouth. She was definitely glowing, shining practically. The essence had really affected her in more ways than he could imagine.
"W-what? Where you going? Lex?" Chase frowned, deeply disappointed she was leaving him. What for? What was outside? He was concerned now, especially with the angelic peace that surrounded the redhead. She seemed so innocent, even the light halo circled her head in almost a crown. "Lexi, stay here, I need you, I can't be alone," he lied, growing desperate as she continued to the balcony. I have to go outside and float away on a breeze. . The words made chases heart drop into his stomach, realization gripping him.
"Lexi, no. No no no! Lex, you don't have your wind, you can't go outside and 'float away on a breeze'! Come here, come on," he pleaded frantically, perched on the edge of his seat. Lexi wasnt stopping, her hands on the balcony doors. He had to stop her, before she killed herself. Again. "No!" He screeched, staggering to his feet unsteadily, his head spinning as the blood flew from his head. Chase took wobbly unbalanced steps, seeming like a baby trying to walk. He had to get to her, before she jumped. He would die after her, of course, but there was no guarantee he could use his wings.

Lexi laughed, pushing him playfully when he flexed. "Yeah yeah. You're a guy. That's the only reason you have more muscle." She teased. She shrugged then. "Yeah. I might do ok in the ER. Not much I haven't seen." She smiled, grinning and blushing at the same time. "Innocent?" She asked, "Is that a good or a bad thing?"
Whether Lexi was ignoring his pleading, couldn't hear him, or wasn't fully registering what he was saying wasn't quite clear, but she kept walking anyways. She turned when he screeched, smiling at him like a giggly happy, playful little girl. She skipped a couple times. "Isn't this great!?" she asked, laughing in giddy delight. "The wind is going to pick me up and carry me away!"
As if too emphasize her point, she jumped as high as she could, which was much higher than it should have been. Yes, she jumped gracefully into the air, gaining a couple feet before she floated back down. She was getting closer and closer to being a complete angel, but at the moment, if she jumped, her human still in her would pull her plummeting to the earth like a stone.
But Lexi didn't know that. All she knew was that the wind felt great blowing between her fingertips and pulling her hair lazily against her face. It felt great beneath her bare feet when she jumped. And the warm orangey glow felt amazing on her back. She smiled at Chase, stepping up onto the wall that bordered the edge of his patio, and the beginning of a swift plummet to the street. "Come on!" She urged. "Come with me! It feels so nice!" She closed her eyes and spread her arms, just enjoying the feeling of the wind on her face.
Then she felt that urge again. She had to take off. She wanted to take off. No, she needed to take off. She felt like she had wings, when she really didn't. But to Lexi, she was a full fledged angel that could soar away. To anyone else, she was a skinny confused girl about to commit suicide.

"Lexi! Wait for me, Im coming!" Chase wheezed, already out of breath halfway across the living room. With the extra essence he had subtracted from lexi's soul while they had cuddled and kissed, standing hadnt caused unbearable nausea. With unsteady footsteps, he hopped after Lexi, his molting wings spread behind him. Chase looked up in time to see Lexi jump on his porch, her body floating back down to the surface with a drifting motion. She was further along than he could have imagined! He wondered I she had any of her other powers yet, if immortality had kicked in.
Chase neary choked as she stepped up to the wall that surrounded his entire balcony terrace, nearly hyperventilating. Four stories up, and Lexi wouldn't survive the fall. Let alone one. "I-I'm almost there," he panted, feeling extremely exhausted with just jogging over with his retarded footsteps. "Feels nice, doesn't it?" Chase murmured, watching her uneasily as he crossed the porch with a last drive of determination. He came up behind Lexi as if to join her on the wall, instead his still strong arms wrapping around her legs and sweeping her off the ledge.
Her weight and his numb legs had caused a chain reaction, both of them tumbling to the porch's floor. Chase grunted, the air knocked from his lungs painfully as he twisted to land with his back to the ground, to make sure that Lexi didnt smash her face in. Her knee jammed into his crotch, a high pitched whimper escaping from his lips. "Ow-" he wheezed, rolling over on his side with his face contorted in pain.
New angels were a tricky thing, they didnt know whatthey were doing. Their souls hadnt matured enough, and their essence could drive them to suicide moments like that one, or cause the person to deteriorate from the inside. Chase forced himself even through the automatic tears that pricked his eyes to focus on Lexi, who he had rolled off his stomach uncomfortably. He had saved her, but he didnt know if he could do it gain.

She just stared for a moment, as if in a trance, and then she frowned, rubbing her head, that joy gone. At first she didn't remember anything, but then it all came back. Her eyes widened and she turned her head to look at Chase. He was all doubled up as if he was in pain, his face scrunched in sheer agony. Lexi bit her lip, realizing what she must have hit when she landed. Now she felt extremely badly. "I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed, pulling him into her arms, hugging him tightly. "I don't know what got into me... It was all sunshine and rainbows and then we were on the floor..." she shook her head. "And I didn't take anything to make me high! What else would make me want to jump off a building!?" She asked, worried.
It hit her then, and she sighed softly. "The angel, right?" She asked, looking for confirmation. "The angel wants to fly away and gosh I almost tried it." She sighed, shaking her head. "I don't know what we're going to do with eachother, you and I. We cause more trouble than anyone I know." She huffed slowly, getting her legs beneath her as she helped Chase up again. She supported him once more, walking very slowly back inside. "So does the urge to jump off buildings ever lessen? Or are you going to be dealing with a suicidal agent freak for the rest of your life?" She asked, somewhat glumly. Being an angel sounded awesome, but not if it was the death of her.
Then she shrugged slowly. "I suppose having wings would help with the falling off high places hazard." she mused, thinking about it for a moment. "Speaking of which. Am I ever even going to get wings? Or do you have to be a pure angel to have those?" She asked, curious. She had to admit that the thought of flying was very appealing, partially because her essence still had a strong influence over her.
Lexi shut and locked the patio doors after they passed through them, and slowly walked Chase back over to the couch, lowering him down gently and curling up beside him. "Were you as bad as that when you were young? Or am I just the weird one?" she asked softly, to break the silence.

He simply waited for Lexi to process how things were working, only nodding with a grimace as he leaned on the redhead for support. "You need to be careful, you've gotta fight t," chase explained, taking a deep calming breath to relax. He constantly had to remind himself that the crotch shot wasnt er fault, that it was completely accidental, that he needn't freak out. "It's not gonna e easy, this is the part where eveything gets tricky," e coughed, blinking away tears that ha formed when he had been hit. "Your essence is tryin to take over you, it's power is very... Powerful," chase added awkwardly, using Lexi to stand.
"It lessens as your should grows stronger, but in afraid... I'll have to lick you inside the apartment, I don't know what it'll do to you," he murmured with a frown. Chase draped one arm around her shoulder, the other hand cupping his crotch sensitively. His legs still shook with each step he tried to take, the couh seeming so much further away than the balcony had.
"Wings..." Chase sighed, shaking his head. He had been born with all his angel qualities, having been an angel before e was in a human body. "I think your wings will develop later, when you're much stronger... You'd need the amount I gave you when I brought you back to life," chase mused, gnawing his lip. Chas shook his head, stumbling back inside the apartment and locking the sliding door. "I was born with it, since I had been an angel in my previous life," he explained, dropping on the couch with a sharp inhale.

What if it took ages for her soul to strengthen. What then? Would she be a crazy angel freak for that whole time? Would she die a crazy angel freak? Would Chase have to live with her for that long? Fear struck her heart. What if he wasn't with her? What if he got tired of her? Lexi swallowed slowly, her face paling a shade.
At his comment about wings, she nodded slowly. "Right." she said softly. Of course it would take a while to get wings. Wonderful. So she would just have to manage as a crazy flightless agent angel freak for the rest of her life. Great.
Lexi noticed that Chase still had a hand between his legs and she bit her lip. "I'm really sorry for hitting you... um there...." She said, blushing softly. "I'm really sorry."

Lexi looked pretty bummed about learning that she couldn't have it all at that moment, that her sngel would take time to develop. "At the rate you're going, you'll be full angel in less than a year!" Chase offered, in an attempt to cheer Lexi up. She looked so down on herself, like she would never be good enough. "Human angels don't happen often, Lexi," chase murmured softly, tucking her damp red hair behind her ears. "Most humans just lose the essence they absorb, my ex, for example. Seven years, of being with her, she would have been an angel. When she left me, she wasnt even half the amount you were," chase raised an eyebrow.
"You okay?" He asked softly, his dark blonde eyebrows furrowing over his blue eyes. Lexi had looked like she had seen a ghost. "It's nothing to be afraid of..." Chase said uneasily, feeling like he had brought upon Lexi this great burden, something she wouldn't be able to handle. "I'm okay, just a little sore," he grimaced, laughing lightly to let her know that he was fine. Sure, that area was a little tender now, an he'd have to be careful next time he tackled her.

She straightened, but her shoulders stayed slumped, almost heavy in defeat. Maybe it was the emotional highs and lows of being an angel, maybe it was too much for her to take in all at once, but for some reason, Lexi felt an irrepressible sadness. One that bubbled up from her very depths and coated her in cool ice. She walked away from him, leaving him on the couch as she made her way into the spare guest room across the hall from his bedroom. Shutting the door after her, she fumbled with the lock, her eyes filled with tears.
Once she go the door locked, she ran over to the bed and threw herself on it, letting her tears slip silently down her face. She couldn't do anything right, and she knew it. She was a horrible agent, she was a horrible nurse, and now she was a horrible angel. And what made her the most sick, was that she knew she was a horrible girlfriend as well, causing Chase to become so weak and sick just because she couldn't take care of herself. Just because of her he was like this.

Lexi pushed past him and stood up, moving to walk away from him. "It's not what li meant, honest..." Chase called after her, feeling lost and a bit afraid of what he had said to upset Lexi. He just wanted her to laugh again, smile even. "You'll have all your powers, you'll be like me in a year- Lexi-!" He called after her, his words strung together. Calling after her in vain had no effect, as she quickly disappeared out of sight down te hall.
Chase stared blankly into the hallway in horror, his features laced with shock. What had he done? He felt an immeasurable pain in his chest, aching for Lexi. It was all a big misunderstanding, why couldn't she understand? What really had kicked him was when she had murmured something about him dumping her, all because she was this angel freak she claimed herself to be. Chase loved Lexi, and would do anything to be with her for an eternity. He had been more conerned that she would dump him, with his neat freakishness, weird love for kids, and angel abilities.
He heard the door lock down the hallway, his guilt eating away at him. So much had gone wrong in less than a minute. Chase attempted to stand on his feet, lifting the hand that had been covering his no-no's a sharp gasp coming from his lips with the first steps he had taken. The wall and any furniture he could get his hands on served as aids, helping him maneuver around the apartment with his old man strength. "Lexi?" Chase called ontot he hall, frozen to his spot while he regained his balance and determination.
As soon as he was by lexis door, he leaned his entire weight against the door. She had kicked herself in the gues room, and fears spread throughout chases body. What had Lexi decided to do all alone. Would she hurt herself? Jump out another window? "Lexi, please... Open up," chase pleaded gently, his forehead resting on the door, the rest if his muscular build leaning on the door frame. "Come on, lets talk..." He coaxed, his hand resting on the door handle. His legs seared with a cramping pain from standing, bought he fought the urge to sit at all.

She bit her lip and shook her head. If Chase was perfectly fine when this was happening to me that would be one thing. He could control me and keep me out of trouble. She thought, nodding slowly. But because I hurt him, and weakened him so, he is risking his life by staying near me. She shook her head slowly. The only way to keep him safe is to... is to leave. She thought, her heart shattering at the same time.
She got up slowly. Chase deserved an explanation. She had to leave, for his safety. She could be her little failure self by herself. That thought scared her, but she cared more about Chase than her own needs, and right now, Chase was in danger. This situation was hardest for her because this time, she couldn't just defend him. To protect him from herself, she had to leave.
Lexi looked towards the door, biting her lip. "I have to go." She whispered. She swallowed and gathered her courage before saying it again louder. "I have to go, Chase. Know that it breaks my heart to leave you. But it is for your own safety. I've almost killed you three times." She said, walking slowly towards the window. "I couldn't live with myself if I was the cause of your death. So I have to go. To protect you." She finished, sliding the window open. There were metal stairs attached to the side of the building right outside her window, and she climbed onto those and started walking down them slowly, her eyes filled with tears.
She made it to the bottom level of steps, and climbed down a short ladder before reaching the ground. She couldn't even bring herself to look up at his apartment one more time. She was afraid her heart would stop working if she did. So she pulled up the hood on her sweater, shoved her hands in her pockets, and started to walk.

"Lexi James, God dammit, open the door! Can't we just talk about this?" He begged, sobbing. His body couldn't handle any more stress, especially in the condition he was in. She never responded, and chase battled between breaking down and breaking in. His fists pounded on the door, his body glowing with determination as he broke the wood, unlocking the door and rushing inside. Empty. He could hear her boots on the ladder, rapidly descending. "No... No..." He whispered hoarsely, inhaling sharply and almost forgetting how to breathe. His legs moved to the window, his fingers gripping the window sill. "Lexi- Lexi!" He screeched, his voice arriving in the wind.
Where was she? There was no dead body on the concrete, so she had obviously taken the ladder. Without thinking, chase swung over the side of the window, scrambling with unsteady footsteps onto the rusted metal fire escape. He was blind with terror, anxiety, and fear, all slammed into his exhaustion. "Lexi!" He caught her figure walking swiftly amongst the New York crowd, several looking at him with disgust. A lovesick crazed man who was chasing after a relationship that wouldn't work. "Stop! Stop, wait!" He coughed, beginning to lag behind as he lost his footing, nearly slipping if my thanks to a police man steadying him.
Chase couldn't hear anything anymore, or see, it's was like all his senses had mushed into one, and he was in slow motion. He would call out to lexi, but she wouldn't look back, it was like one of those bad dreams. All he could remember was Amanda's horrified looks, her screams, insults, then her leaving. Just like that, get up and walk out. Her friends had come over to take her belongings, giving chase disgusted looks as well. He remembere the rejection, the abandonment. He had thought he and Lexi meant the world to each other, and now she was giving up on him, leaving, because she was selfish.
Chase was staggering along the streets in sweatpants and an old tshirt, looking like a drunken bum with his tear stained cheeks, unsteady breathing, and swaying as he walked. Lexi had slowed, thanks to the New York City traffic and the sip light. This was his last chance. He couldn't let her go, not like he had let Amanda. Trembling, chase jogged with a new drive of determination, just wanting to hold Lexi one more time. If she didnt want him, he wouldn't force her. Chase's fingers grasped Lexis sweater, pulling her back as the crosswalk signaled to cross. He gripped her sweater, falling to his knees and nearly vomiting. His skin was clammy from the efforts, circles of sweat on his tshirt. He had used up neatly all of his essence, and the daner of him becoming a nothin was a jog back to the apartment away.

Reaching up a shaking hand, she tried to frantically wipe her tears away as she reached a crosswalk. She had to be able to see when she crossed the street. She didnt want to repeat that truck incident. Her heart was hurting like it never had before. She hated herself, she hated that she couldnt escape from herself and just start over. I'll just go for a year. Until it is safe. Then if Chase doesnt hate me. Maybe we can try again. Lexi nodded, happy with her decision.
She had just started to walk across when she was yanked back by her sweater. Shrieking in surprise as she stumbled a bit, she was about to turn on whoever it was and yell at them when her eyes fell on the disheveled heap at her feet. Tye first thing she noticed was the blonde hair, and then the pained blue eyes that gave it away. Her heart slammed to a stop as she stared at the sickly white wraith of the man she loved.
"Ch-chase..." she breathed, still in shock. Then her mind started working again and her eyes buldged. "Chase!" She shrieked. She crumpled beside him, staring at him wide eyed. She didnt care that people were growling at them for taking up the sidewalk. "What are you doing!?" She screamed. "What on earth are you doing you stupid stupid...." the tears sprang into her eyes and she looked down and away.
She had caused this. He was dying. She could see it. She would end up being the death of him after all. There was no escape from it. Who she was. She stayed. She killed him. She left. She killed him. Lexi burried her face in her hands. "Why would you follow me!?" She sobbed.
She looked back at him slowly, her whole body trembling. "Take it back." She begged. "Take back every bit of life you gave me. Use it to get strong." She insisted, her eyes firm. She picked up one of his hands gently and held it in hers. "I love you Chase. Now let me die. Please." Her eyes were so full of pain, showing just how much she had broken.

Chase felt his body slowly deteriorating from the inside, his heart pulsing at strange intervals. He felt sick to his stomach, and having tos tress over Lexi wasnt helping at all. His skin was chalky pale, his lips dry and his head throbbing. He was perspiring nearly everywhere, with the cold air freezing his skin and causing his skin to become a moist an clammy feel. It was worth it, to hear lexis voice again. Chase expected Lexi to kick him away, to run from him and pretend that he was some crazy drunk man. I was chase's irrational fear, of abandonment, that weakened him, that made him want to curl up then and there on the sidewalk to die.
Lexi collapsed beside him on the dirty New York sidewalk, a small moan escaping Chase's lips. He could he rely sit up straight, and he was sitting on top of his legs at an odd position. Chase crawled with what little he could muster into lexis lap, throwing his arms around her and resting his weight on her shoulder. She was crying, but he didnt understand why she had any right. She had left him, hadnt even talked it out. Chase sobbed miserably, the cry of the angel a depressing and heart wrenching cry. He hardly ever cried, except in that past year, everything seemed to be horrible. Chase couldn't look at Lexi, upset that she was yelling at him for following her, calling him stupid.
Chase's body trembled, her warm body providing the only life line that kept him consious. He stole a little piece of her essence, which kept him awake and his vision wouldn't be so bad. All around them, newyorkers pushed past them, ignoring the fact that chase was literally dying in front of their eyes. In New York City, nothing really seemed to faze them. They'd seen t all. At lexis demanding question, chase could only hiccup, like a child who had been crying couldn't speak and only stuttered. When he had calmed down considerably, chase parted his lips to speak. "B-because I-I-I love y-you," he managed, sniffling and coughing through the tears in the bck of his throat.
"I couldn't just l-let you l-l-leave like that, I c-couldn't make the- the same m-m-mistake again-" chase broke off, fresh tears streaming down his red face. His chest rose and fell rapidly, as he inhaled air sharply to get to his lungs. "I love you s-so much, I- I- I can't lose you, not again," chase whispered, his voice raspy. He looked Lexi in the eyes for the first time that conversation, his body subconsciously shivering.
At her plea, chase's jaw set in a firm stubborn line. Who was se to tell him what to do with his powers? He was in a horrible funk, and felt miserably desperate to keep his love. Chase was afriad, terrified of living a lonely life. He'd even go out to a strip club, hire a hooker if it meant that much to be loved. "No. No, dammit Lexi!" Chase insisted angrily, wiping his damp fce in vain with the back of his hand. "I'll take it back if you don't want to be an angel, I understand it, but I'm not going to kill you, especially after how much it took from me-" chase began with his voice firm, effort it began to waver. "If you loved me, you wouldn't be doing this to me right now, we wouldn't be having this conversation," chase's speech began to become broken, his sentences choppy as he tried to hold himself back from crying like some stupid two year old. "I need to know- I need to know if you want us together or not, I need to hear it," chase whispered, closing his blue eyes as his bottom lip trembled. He could already see it happening.

Lexi felt like she was falling apart. She couldnt hold it together anymore. "You're going to kill yourself." She stammered, wrapping two shaking arms around him hesitantly. It would be ok to hug him right now right? It wasnt like she could kill him here, so he would be ok, right? "Chase you are going to kill yourself if you stay with me!" She sobbed, shaking her head. "You cant die. You cant!" She cried, trembling. Her muscles loosened and she collapsed like a pile of jello beside him, unable to move. She was trembling violently all over, her eyes red from crying.
He asked that question again. Asked whether or not she wanted to be with him. Her heart pounded, shattering more each second. She knew what she had to tell him. She had to send him away to protect him. She had to say she didnt want to be with him. "W-we cant be t-together." She sobbed brokenly from her defeated heap on the concrete. "I-ill just kill you if we stay together. You have to go." She whispered.
Then she turned her face to the side to look up at him. She looked small and broken from where she was, and that was exactly how she felt. "No. I want to be an angel, so that when I gain control I can be with you again. If you dont hate me." She whispered. "If you wont kill me..." she paused, biting back fresh tears. "Then at least take some of my energy for yourself so you can get better. Please." She looked away, hiding her face. "I dont want to live anymore. It hurts too much." She whispered.

Chase felt like he had been socked in the stomach, his world stopping. Ending. Exploding. We can't be together. Exactly what Amanda had said. Exactly! It was déjà vu, and e couldn't help but feel a hopeless pit of despair. His heart contorted, twisted, and vanished, leaving chase completely dysfunctional. His skin paled, and every happy moment he'd ever had with Lexi seemed to disappear. We can't be together. Can't. She didnt want him, how could he have been so foolish? Chase was convinced that the whole I-might-hurt-you thing was a cover up, so she wouldn't have to say she was uninterested to his face.
He was dead silent, unmoving as his blue eyes hardened, staring ino the cincrete with such an absent blank look. Lexi was to be no longer a part of his life. Just like that. It was difficult to even breathe, his chest squeezing with each breath he tried to take. Chase wanted to curl up and die, and he could very well manage it. All he had to do was put every last bit of his essence inside Lexi with a touch of the hand, let himself vanish into nothingness. He'd disappear from the world forever, and only the archangel would bring him back. At that point, Lexi would be a full fledged angel with wings and all his powers, and she could live happily ever after.
"Who says ill be alive in a year?" Chase murmured with a ghostlike lull, his voice distant. "I get it, it doesn't matter anymore... I understand if you don't want any of this, if you think that being with me will hurt me," chase continued, his voice barely above a whisper. He shook his head, his eyes drifting lazily to where Lexi lay on the concrete in a heap. "I don't want it," he said coldly, keeping his suicidal thoughts to himself. Chase felt like crawling into the middle of the street, letting himself get run over by cars until his immortality broke and killed him. He couldn't imagine being without Lexi, she had come to mean so much for him. He felt neglected, abandoned, more alone than he had in years. Maybe he should just ive up on love, he'd never find it.
"Wha do you mean, you don't want to live anymore? Because you're life is so hard!" Chase snapped angrily, hurt that she would want to end her life, repeat it in front of his face after he had suffered so much to revue her twice. He was in that 'well what about me?' mood, feeling nothing but self pity, hurt, and rage. "Don't waste my life," he whispered harshly, before he slowly, painfully got to his knees, his body trembling. He couldn't go more than a few steps before he collapsed on the pavement, curling into a ball by a bus stop bench to die. He didnt understand why Lexi had to be so mean, and leave him on his own like this. Where was she gonna even go? She had no money or home from what he knew, and half of her new belongings were sitting in his apartment. Chase wasnt even sure if he'd make it back home, or if he even wanted to go home. He was heartbroken, and nothing would kill him more than this.

His cold, harsh words regarding her loss of will to live, caused tears to spring into her eyes and she looked down and away, her bottom lip trembling. Who was this man before her? The Chase she knew certainly wasnt capable of being this cold and heartless. She stumbled back a bit, her heart throbbing painfully. "Im sorry." She whispered. "Im sorry for everything. I obviously ruined your life, so ill just..." she choked down a sob and shook her head, standing up and turning away.
Forcing her numb limbs to move, she slowly walked away from him as if in a dream. Her head and heart were pounding, and she felt like the whole world was spinning below her. Finally she couldnt go any further and she ducked into an alley, sliding down against the wall. Curling up, she hid her head and cried.

Chase's essence was nearly gone, with his body laying out helplessly in the cold by a bus stop bench. There was no way, no way he would have made it home. Chase was mentally, emotionally, and physically unwell, his body deteriorating as time passed. He must have laid there for over an hour, staring at people's feet as they walked past, leaving him to die by himself. If it weren't for his neighbor catching his blonde head of hair, he just might have. His neighbor, a man similar in age and working as a teacher, picked chase off the floor, draped his arm oer his shoulder, and dragged the angel back home.
It was all a fog to chase, opening his apartment with the spare key hidden in a crevice in the door jamb, being laid down on the couch, being questioned by his neighbor, his neighbor forcing him to drink water and have a bite of soup, of his neighbor finally leaving two hors later leaving the unresponsive chase to sleep. His blue eyes were foggy, his eyes staring straight up through the ceiling. They were puffy and swollen with crying, silent tears continuously streaming from his cheeks. He didnt understand any of it. What had he said, what had he done? Where was Lexi now? Was she okay? Chase's mind rattled with questions, feeling like a complete bastard for how harsh he had been to her.
The second love of his life was gone, and chase was left here to bear the pain of it all alone. Poor Andy, againg he d have to put up with chase's emotional swings. The angels wings were only getting worse, hardly any essence left in him. It was only the core then, he couldn't glow of he wanted to. At that point, chase was weaker than Lexi was, going south from then still. Chase didnt even have and address, email, or phone number to contact Lexi James, and in a city like New York, dining the agent would be impossible. He couldn't apologize if he wanted, there was no way to do it.
Chase longed for Lexi in his arms, to go back to how they had been before Lexi had gotten up to go flying. Chase let out a wrangled sob, hugging a pillow to his chest and pretending that the soft cotton was his second ex girlfriend. In this way, chase cried himself to sleep. He didnt eat, or hydrate himself; chase lay on the couch with the pillow clutched to his face, his tears falling ven in his sleep. Goodbye, Lexi James.

Lexi stayed curled up on the cold damp concrete sobbing as the hours passed. Her heart was broken, shattered into a million peices that she felt could never be put back together. She felt broken beyond repair. And the problem was that though Chase had peirced her heart, she still loved him. She would never stop loving him. And that left her feeling empty and lost.
When night had fallen, she didnt even notice. She didnt notice when loud female voices joined her in the alley. She barely noticed when rough hands grabbed her and searched her for money. Finding that she had none, the gang dropped her again and started to kick her. Lexi didnt make a sound. Not one cry. She didnt defend herself either. That was unlike her. Even when she had a bullet wound she would always defend herself. But the wound she had was not one she would recover from.
The gang left her in a sorry crumpled heap in a puddle of blood. She didnt care. She was barely conscious, but all she could think of was Chase. It was painful to think about him. He had hurt her, and yet, she couldnt live without him. Then she had a thought. What if he wasnt ok? What if he was sick... and dying!? Lexi's fractured heart started to pound and she forced herself to get up slowly. Her wrist was fractured and her body was bruised painfully, her face bearing a long bloody gash.
Where would Chase have gone? He couldnt have made it to the apartment, so the only other option was that some one took him to the hospital. Wobbling on shakey abused legs, Lexi staggered the whole two blocks to the hospital and burst inside. "Where's Chase? " she croaked.
A nurse came up, immediately insisting that she lie down. Lexi shoved her off, practically frantic. "Where's Chase!?" She shrieked. "Someone has to help him!"
Then nurse came over and held her more firmly. "Miss you need to lie down."
Lexi jerked away from her. "Dont touch me!" She shrieked.
The doctors came over then, as she had caused quite a commotion. She was sedated and the lights went dark.

Chase gingerly sat up on his couch, yelping as small pains jolted through his body. He was ill, tired, heartbroken, and in no shape to do anything but sleep an recover. The initial shock of the whole thing had numbed his senses, but chase couldn't help the worry he felt. Was one of his little sisters hurt? His parents? The call passed at the point chase had reached for the phone, a soft sweat coming from his lips seeing it had been the hospitals number. The ER number. Chase didnt want to go in, not tonight, he was dying. Didnt they understand when he called in seriously ill? Chase's head spun when he straightened, swinging his legs gingerly over the side of te couch with his elbows on his knees, the phone held to his ear.
"Hello...?" Chase rasped weakly, his voice hoarse from crying so much. It was Annie, the girl who worked as a nurse and knew him well having gone through the same training program at their med school. "Chase! Chase, you gotta come quick!" She blurted nervously, not even botherin to greet him. "I can't, im-" he was cut off by Annie again, this time the urgency stronger. "It's your redhead girlfriend, she's here, and she's really hurt!" Chase's entire body froze, as Annie begun to explain her injuries, her voice was distant. What was Lexi doing there? At the hospital? What for? And why was she... Injured? Had the angel kicked in?
"Chase? Chase! Hello?" Her frantic voice continued into the line, snapping him from his reverie. His face had paled even whiter, his chest constricted. It had been his fault, he had upset her, left her, and now she was hurt. Dying. "Chase, she was looking for you," Annie whispered quietly, before hanging up after a voice called her name. That had been the kicker. Lexi was looking for him. She was coming for help. Something had happened to her, and he hadnt been there. Chase choked down a sob, staggering to his feet using what little strength e had left. He shrugged on a jacket hanging by the door on a peg, before disappearing into thenalhallways. He didnt even lock the door, didnt even tell his neighbor where he was going. If he died going to Lexi, so be it.
Chase burst into the er wing, his tall frame staggering. He hugged his jacket to his chest, his lips purple and his hair a wild mess. His nose was red, his red swollen and bloodshot. A passing nurse asked him if he was okay, the screaming of little children and upset parents echoing in his ears. "Lexi, Lexi! Red hair, Lexi!" Chase repeated over and oer, a wild look in his eyes. The nurse then understood, helping him over to the surgery rooms where Lexi lay.
She had fractured and broken too many things, her limp battered body placed in he middle of a surgery bed. They had begun to make preperations, nurses in their green scrubs and blue masks gloves and caps hustling around to put tools in place and change Lexi out of her clothes. Chase pressed his face to the window, silent tears streaming down his face as a quiet, high pitched whimpering sounded from the back of his throat. This was his fault, and because of him, Lexi had suffered so much. He felt so guilty, it almost ate him. "L-l-lexiii," he moaned, before being pulled away from her by a doctor, saying he needed to recover.
Chase fought the doctor, actually swinging a furious frustrated punch at the man who tried to help. Several nurses took his arms, before a needle was felt and he was put down. Chase was laid in a recovery room in his own recovery wing, in the empty room beside Andy's. the children's hospital bed was a bit small, his feet hanging off the edge.

Four hours later, Lexi was patched up just as much as she could be. She was taken into a recovery room, where she was kept on a pain killer and IV, and as she had been labeled as dangerous and potentially insane, she was also restrained, her wrists strapped to the bed to keep her from hurting herself. She woke up slowly, her whole body aching. Everything hurt. She moaned and tried to reach up a hand to rub her forehead which stung from the stitches. That was when she realized that she was restrained.
Lexi pretty much freaked out. She couldnt handle not being able to move her hands. Not being able to move anything. She started struggling furiously. Her face paled and she started to scream. "Chase! Chase!" She cried. "Help me!" She could not do cuffs. You clap them on her and she goes crazy. It was related to her claustrophobia.
Doctors and nurses came running, they stuck a needle in her wrist and sedated her.

By six the next morning, chase awoke completely confused. Where was he? Why was he in a patients hand? Lexi? It all flooded back to him painfully, his eyes widening in panic. Her mangled body on that hospital surgery table, him being torn away from the glass, being put down... Chase began to breathe irregularly, shaking as he began to hyper ventilate. Chase sat up, carefully sliding his IV from his vein, taking off the pulse monitors under his shirt and on his toe, and clutching the air mask to his face. He turned up the oxygen valve, inhaling deeply. The air relaxed his mind, the lightheaded ness e had felt upon waking up vanishing. Once his hyperventilation had calmed down, chase unstrapped the tricky thing, hanging the plastic mask on te hook.
Now he had to find Lexi, find her safe. He hadnt been able o get a good look at her and assess the damage, but she couldn't be dead. She couldn't. Chase knew he wouldn't be able to live with er life on his conscience. It was too early in the morning, and the recovery wing was nearly silent with exceptions of whispers in the dimly lit hallway and the beeps of monitors. His room was right beside Andy's, he noticed, and chased peeked inside. He smiled faintly seeing the boy fast asleep with his fist curled by his face. Chase turned away, remembering the task at hand.
It hadnt occurred to him that he was stronger, that he had recovered much of his essence with a good nights sleep. Being sedated had a better effect on him, leaving no opportunity for him to wake up or dream. Chase nearly jogged down the hall on steady legs, stumbling here and there as his eyes scanned the last names on the little black boxes outside each door. James, James, James. Chase passed by the front desk, digging frantically like a ma man through the binder of patients, his heart in his throat finding lexis name near the top, along with her room number and status. Dangerous, unstable? What was this?
Chase took his knew knowledge with him, his footsteps slapping the carpet as he ran for the ire escape, not waning to be slowed by the elevator. The fire escape door opened with a bang, and chase sprinte up the steps with muh effort. His calves burned, and he was short of breath by the time he had reached the top floor. His vision was clear for once, and his head didnt continuously swirl with colors. Chase immediately found room 367, standing outside it breathing heavily, his forehead damp with perspiration.
He had gotten lucky, not running into nurses, but he heard someone approaching. Chase ducked into the room, closing it behind him and locking the door. Oh, Lexi. His sweet Lexi. A cry escaped chases lips, seeing his ex girlfriend laying on the bed with restraints. Her entire body was heavily bandaged, particularly her head and stomach. What had happened...? "Lexi..." He whispered, biting back tears again. This was all his fault. He had upset her, and she had done something to get wrapped in this mess. Chase joined her at her side, sliding into a chair pulled close. Closer, he could see in the dim light that lexis arms and legs had been restrained, and she had several staples and stitches on her forehead.
Chase slid his hand in lexis, and sobbed. Sobbed for everything wrong he had done, every little douche comment e had made to her during their fight. Chase buried his head into her lap, after inspecting for any injuries. She was so weak, so close to death. It made his stomach twist with pain and regret, wishing he could do something, anything to help her ET better. "Lexi? Lexi, please... Wake up," chase whispered hoarsely through warbled tears, his lips moving against her ear, his hands shaking her body gently.
Now that chase thought about it, he Had Lexi all to himself. They weren't officially girlfriend boyfriend, since he hadnt asked, but things were basically already in that direction. She knew his secret, she was part angel- things were already further than he could have hoped. They could live their lives together now, go on dates and hold hands all the time without Lexi worrying about her job. He would take care of them both. Lexis expression had changed to a serious one, suddenly a stream of questions firing from her lips.
"All of it, actually, sounds wonderful..." Chase mused, preparing himself mentally to sit up. Not moving for two days straight made his body numb and foreign. "Help me up?" Chase pleaded, his abs tightening painfully as he was sat up straight on the couch. He did his best to slide his legs in front of him onto the floor, quickly becoming lightheaded and wanting to throw up. "Oh man," chase moaned, rubbing his face with his hands. "What first?" He asked himself aloud, before looking to Lexi.
