Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi watched him, a worried expression on her face. He looked so frail, and fragile. Why did he look like that? Had he risked his life to save her? That thought struck her to her core. Here was someone she had just met, who had been willing to die to save her life. She couldn't even fathom how that was possible. It made her feel guilty to an extent, because she would never do that for someone else.

Now, she would protect him. She owed him that much. She would protect him and care for him and make sure he was ok. Mumbled her name and she nodded. "It's alright. I'm alright, thanks to you." she said softly. Then he hugged her, actually crying against her. Lexi's eyes widened briefly, not expecting that, but she immediately hugged him back, trying both to comfort him, and to comfort herself. She still had that horrible image of the truck flying at her lodged in her mind.

And that was when she realized she had almost nothing on. Chase's hands on her back suddenly felt more hot than normal, because she was very aware of them. She was actually, genuinely blushing when he pulled away, and she was very thankful when he slipped his shirt over her head. She smiled at him then, shaking her head. "But you did save me. You did. And I don't know how I'll ever be able to repay you." She said softly. Her heart was pounding, and that strange feeling was stirring in her again. What was with her? What was with this guy? He made her feel emotions she didn't think existed.

Then her eyes fell on his wings, and they trailed over them slowly. "So you're, an... an..." She started.

E M M A | 1540 comments He had met Lexi this morning. This morning, and already she had become something... Meaningful to him. Maybe it was her naivety, or her innocence. Watching her get plowed by the dump tuck was the most disturbing and heart wrenching thing he had eer witnessed, and would ever witness his entire life. Chase shook away the images that kept returning, swarming his mind insistently. If he hadnt saved her, with the powers he had, and just let her rot in his arms, chase knew he would have never forgive himself. Ever. He was just surprised his body had been holding through, with the energy exerted into Lexi. What had basically happened was that everything that made up chase's powers and existence, was channeled into Lexi. A human.

"Good," he whispered between sniffles, using his arms to wipe his face from the warm tear drops. The wind whistled by their ears at the high altitude, on top of one of the highest sky scrapers in te city. Chase took deep controlled breaths, his arms and legs trembling and as about as useless as jello. "I thought I lost you..." He repeated, rubbing his face as the words kept mumbling between his fingers. And if Lexi hadnt come back...? What would have happened?

Chase gave up, lowering himself to lay on the paved flat roof of te building, the cold material beneath his face causin chills to run down his spine. He curled his wings closer for warmth and comfort, doing the best he could to preserve and regain all his energy. "You can't tell anyone, Lexi!" Chase sat up abruptly, right when he was going to say that there need be no repaying, that saving a life was something any person would do if they could. "No one, Lexi, you've gotta keep it a secret, none of it ever happened," he pleaded hoarsely.

"An angel, I know," chase relaxed, finding some comfort lying on his side with his left wing to pad under him. "It's why I work at the hospital, Lexi," chase whispered softly, his deep blue eyes meeting lexis for a while. "My powers... I sneak them to the kids sometime, like Andy, and that girl that was bleeding in the er," chase pointed out. His vision was beginning to have little white dots, phase 2 of his recovery.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi bit her lip and nodded. Hoping she could keep this promise. "I wont tell anyone." She said softly, the words driving a nail into her gut the second she said them. How could she not tell anyone? This was crazy! This was huge! He had powers... and he was an angel! But she owed it to him. He saved her life, she ought to do as he asked.

It made sense though. His healing powers. He would work at a hospital. Heck, it would probably make a doctors job easy if they had healing powers like him. Suddenly she realized that he was just trying to help. Just trying to help those who needed him. She felt very guilty for actually thinking about handing him in. "You are such a good person." She said softly, shaking her head. Unlike me... She noticed that he was tucking his wings closer to his body, almost as if to conserve heat. Is he cold? She wondered.

On impulse, and with the need to help him, she slowly moved over to him and gathered him into her arms, hoping her own warmth would help to warm him as well. "You're ok, right?" She asked hopefully. "You'll be alright?"

E M M A | 1540 comments What chase was surprised with was that Lexi was still actually here. She hadnt taken one look at him and screamed bloody murder, she hadnt edged away from him with fear or uncertainty. No, she tried to help him. It was such a unique reaction to his powers, that it felt extremely odd to be in his true form with someone else watching him.

"Thank you," chase murmured back, offering a small weak smile. A good peson. Lexi hadnt called him a freak, like his own ex fiancée of seven years had. She hadnt even tried to talk things through with him, she just up and left with her stories of him being a crazy alien trying to take over the world or something. Chase squeezed his fists at the memory, his heart aching for the one he had loved so much. He had been warned about love and humans, but hadnt heeded any of the guidance offered to him. And now he was suffering.

Chase sucked in a breath and grimaced as Lexi helped him up by her arms, before the dizzy sensation quickly passed. At first he was tjeoroughly confused what her objective was, until she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, rubbing them for warmth. It made him extremely self consious of her bare legs, instead trying to avoid any contact with her skin. "Thank you, Lexi..." Chase murmured, touched that she would make any move at all to help him when he hadnt asked for it. The wings around him curled around her as well, thinking that if he was cold, then Lexi must be freezing. Or maybe it was the weak sensation in his body.

"I'm fine... I'll be up soon, just need to... Rest," chase murmured, squeezing his eyes shut. The white spots had passed, but now the cold clammy skin symptoms were acting up, accompanied by the urge to dry heave. "We must be careful now, the people who saw will have questions... I can erase their memories by only a fraction, and it isn't guaranteed to work every time," chase stressed, regretful of his impulsive reactions. He should hve ran her in an alley, then revealed his wings to get on top of a building for safety and privacy. Chase curled up closer to Lexi, the two of them on the roof top looking out over the city. With their luck, nobly would believe the seven who had seen him, in the city where crackheads and nut jobs were infamous.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded, smiling in relief when he said he would be ok. She saw his look of confusion, and then his thanks, and she shook her head, refusing it. She didn't deserve his thanks. She was doing as much as she could for him, but she could never repay what he had done for her. She did feel a little self conscious about holding a stranger in her arms when she had no pants on. But then again, circumstances were circumstances, and right now, helping Chase was her highest priority.

She did want to know how being an angel was possible, and how he became an angel, or if he was always one, and what could he do with his powers... and so much else. But she knew it would be best to save her questions for later. Chase still looked clammy and pale, cold as well. She kept him huddled tightly against her, actually enjoying that his wings were around her as well. They shielded her from the wind, which was chilling.

She nodded, chewing her lip. There was that problem as well. Chase had to worry about those who had seen what had happened, and well... her own self. She would not hand him in yet, but what if he compromised her position? Job always came before relations, right? Now she wasn't so sure. She nodded and sighed. "We can figure it out." She assured. "I'm sure no one would believe them anyways. No one does believe stories like this anymore." She said, shrugging. She found herself subconsciously running her hand through his blonde hair, in a comforting way, but she still blushed and dropped it quickly, returning to just rubbing his arms to warm him.

((back now :) ))

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase was slightly skeptical that the story wouldn't be at least investigated, so he held on to the possibility as best as he could. There wasnt really any way to trigger his angel... Senses, so to speak, not unless... Someone was in pain. But if the government captured him, they wouldn't do that to someone just to see if chase could actually be an angel, right? "I sure hope not," chase coughed, his shoulders shuddering. He relaxed in lexis lap awkwardly, the wings shielding them both from the cold and from public eyes. One of his many useful powers, although not commonly utilized, was invisibility.

Just like that, he and Lexi seemed to have vanished from the roof top. Now they were safe, untouchable. No helicopter or bird could see or detect them. To chase and Lexi, the other person was clearly visible, tangible. "We need to get out of here, lets get back inside," Chase grimaced, nodding to the building just up the block. He couldn't go far, not unil he was completely stable. Going unconsious in the middle of nowhere wouldn't be very good. If an ambulance picked him up and any sort of blood testing was done, he'd be done for.

Chase felt fingers combing through his blonde hair, his cheeks ringing slightly pink. He remembered Amanda doing the same thing before, and chase automatically leaned his head gently into lexis caressing hand. It was weird how everything was changing so fast. Too fast. "Come on, help me up," chase snapped from his thoughts, crawling feebly to his knees. He had before been instructed to wait a few hours before moving anywhere after such a powerful movement, but he couldn't lay idle on the top of a building in New York with his pants less assistant.

The sky was brewing over, the usual city sounds of honking and humming I engines floating up the 20 story building. The summer had ended a bit earlier than expected, an omen for the upcoming harsh winter. Chase suspected that he'd have alot of patients, kids who caught the flu, got frost bitten playing out in the snow, or dehydrated youngsters. On top of that, there was now the added burden of watching for rumors of a winged figure, pictures on twitter and instagram of the 'sacred being.' Humans, always poking their noses in anything that thy couldn't understand.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded, awkwardly standing and reaching down to help him up. She was blushing, feeling rather foolish for touching him that way. Right now, the thoughts of her job, and duty and whatnot had actually left her mind completely, and that was freeing. She only felt compassion and worry for this new acquaintance. But that... that feeling. It was stirring in her again. Although this time, it was more welcome, but still strange. She had no idea what it was exactly. This man is my boss. Nothing more. She told herself, frowning a little.

She was stronger than most, and she slung one of his arms over her shoulders, supporting his weight as she slowly straightened and pulled him into a standing position. "Um. How are we going to get over to that building?" She said, eyeing it. How where they going to get off this roof no less? She sure couldn't fly, and she didn't think Chase was strong enough to yet. She looked over to him in worry, her eyes scanning his face. He was still pale, that much was evident.

Lexi found herself actually enjoying being around him. She found herself excited to be in his company, and some part of her wanted to slap her for that, but another part of her was happy with it. But most of all, she was confused. Confused as to what this strange feeling was that kept rising, and why it would show up after one day.

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase almost fainted as all the blood rushed from his head, feeling woozy. He leaned on Lexi for support, closing his eyes to regain his breath. He really needed to sit down. An airplane soared overhead, the low rumble echoing cross the skies. Using Lexi as a crutch, he hobbled over to the edge of the roof, looking down on the city. The hospital wasnt too far away, but could he make it? "We can't go through the fire exit downstairs, it'd set off the alarms, and it's too crowded," chase shook his head. Even though they were invisible, anybody would hear them breathing or struggling to get to the elevator, or feel them brush by.

"Were gonna fly, it's the only way," chase murmured, his eyebrows scrunched together. He said a silent prayer with his eyes closed, gripping his fists as te overwhelming urge to pass out made him rock on his feet. "I-I need to drain some of you, I c-can't do this," chase whispered hoarsely. He had held on to Lexi for seconds too long while he was fixing her, nearly killing himself if he held on for more than five seconds more. His wings were curled around them, but chase extended them to their full impressive wingspan. It felt refreshing to stretch them out, to use them again.

"You may feel a little weak, it'll pass," chase promised, his blue promising eyes glowing. His palm rested on lexis chest awkwardly, before his hand began to radiate light, sucking back some of what he had given Lexi minutes before into his body. It only took three seconds, and chase felt immediately better. He wasnt in tip top shape as if he were going to go running, but enough to glide them down the street and seclude themselves in the hospitals safety.

"Are you okay?" Chase steadied a hand on lexis arm, standing a little taller without relying on her to keep him up. "We should really go," chase frowned, stepping up to the edge of the rooftop and extending a hand to Lexi.

((So so so sorry my writing is crap))

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments ((np I have days like that too :) ))

Lexi's eyes widened when he said he needed to drain some of her. Drain her? What on earth could that mean? It sure sounded scary. Lexi chewed her lip for a moment, before opening her mouth to ask how dangerous it was. But before she could ask, he assured her that she would only feel a little weak. She could deal with that. Depending on the definition of 'a little'. She nodded nervously, tucking a strand of her wavy hair behind her ear. "Ok. Go ahead." She said, determined to do whatever she could to help him.

She watched as he spread his wings, and she found herself in awe of them. She wanted to touch them, to feel what those glistening white feathers would feel like beneath her fingers. But she felt like they were off limits. So she restrained herself and watched as Chase lay a hand on her chest. She didn't object, and just watched and waited as he started to glow. Then she felt her energy start to get pulled from her.

She gasped, and her eyes widened, reaching out and grabbing his arm to steady herself as she swayed. It was strange, feeling like you had run a marathon in the span of three seconds. When he finished and asked about her, Lexi nodded, managing a smile. "Yeah." She said, which was the truth. Yes, she was exhausted, but she had been exhausted before. And besides, he was probably more weak than she was. "Yeah. I'm ok." She assured.

Then she nodded. She walked forwards slowly and peaked over the edge. The ground seemed to drop away, tiny toy cars and people mingling on the street way below her. Her face immediately paled and she closed her eyes tight, swallowing. Lexi James had two fears. Only two. Heights, and small (or crowded) spaces. Her heart started to pound and she swayed a little. "Is it safe?" she asked, not really doubting him, just stalling. She didn't want to jump off that roof with him. Oh no. She would have to be payed a million dollars before she would even consider something like that.

E M M A | 1540 comments With a little of his essence back, chase could stand up straight an breathe normally again. He had done an incredible feat, one that wasnt accomplished often or so easily. On a human that had been so weak as Lexi, the chances of survival even after such a big effort. Lexis spirit must have had a strong urge to stay close, to hold on to the hope that she'd be alive again, whole. Chase had noticed that once he had powered himself up, she had become sickly pale. "Are you sure?" Chase grimaced, holding out his arms to steady her wobbling figure.

His wings glimmered, radiating with an anglic glow. But of course, no one but him and Lexi could see them outstretched. Chase retuned his gaze over the edge of the office building, the yellow taxis with their black numbers on the roof and the heads of busy citizens lost in the sea below. It was as if the accident had never happened, a bus, police car, and several other vehicles gathered at the same light Lexi had been hit. No sirens, no confusion. It upset chase how such a brutal accident hadnt even been noted by anyone else, how people didnt care because it wasnt their business.

Chase returned his attention to his assistant nurse in training, stepping down from the raised platform. "I won't drop you, if that's what you're afraid of," chase promised softly, his hand outstretched invitingly towards Lexi. He felt a little weird, shirtless and in angel form in front of a co-worker he had just met that day. He adjusted his scrub pants, awkwardly hiding the waistband of his underwear feeling it was too inappropriate. When they got into the hospital, he would have to snag the extra ones he kept for himself in his locker, and find something that would... Fit Lexi.

"Of course it's safe," chase laughed lightly, amused. "And if... if I drop you..." He shrugged nonchalantly, suggesting that he would help her again. If he had enough energy left. Chase could feel his strength regenerating, his eyes sparkling brighter than their usual clear blue. A cool New York breeze ruffled his blonde hair, his wings drifting with the wind. "Come, how do you want to do this?" Chase scratched the bck of his head. How would he carry her comfortably, without the risk f dropping her? Where would they land? The invisibility would only last as long as he was in his form, were the hallways and doors wide enough to accommodate them even when they were tucked in?

Chase snapped from his thoughts, sweeping Lexi up into his arms bridal style as a final decision. Her red locks draped over his shoulder and arm, her weight barely noticeable. "It's a good thing you're light," chase teased, trying to take off the edgy uncertainty Lexi sported concerning the flying experience. Shed already done it once... While she was dead. With that, chase leapt off the building, wings tucked in as he dove straight down without sign of slowing. The wind whistled in his ears, whipped lexis hair and shirt about his cheek. The last moment when they were only a few feet from a bus's rooftop, his wings spread wide, taking them back up on a drift. They floated easily through the air, soaring between the buildings with the traffic.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi frowned, crossing her arms stubbornly when he laughed and said it was safe. It wasn't funny. Not to her. Then he said the part about maybe dropping her, and she paled even further. After getting over her initial shock, she frowned. "If you drop me I won't speak to you again." She threatened, glaring. she was semi serious. She looked like a protesting child at the moment, stubborn and afraid at the same time.

Then he asked her how she wanted to do this and she snapped out of her thoughts for a moment. Her eyes drifted over him for a second, as if just noticing him. Really noticing him. Before she had been to concerned about him to pay much attention to his bare torso. But now that neither of them were hurt... well... She blushed brighter and swallowed. Agk! Someone shoot me! What is with this? This has never happened to me before. It CANT happen! She was still staring subconsciously when he picked her up swiftly in his arms.

She smirked. "Lucky you." She replied to his comment on her weight and shook her head. "Less weight to carry..." She started, but her words stuck in her throat when she suddenly found herself falling through the air like a stone. Funny thing was, was that Chase's arms were still around her, and he was still right there, a light smile on his face as if he was enjoying it. Lexi had no time to feel anything, as she stared at the ground that was growing rapidly closer. She felt like her heart was in her throat as the wind whipped her hair around her ears and snapped at the shirt she was wearing.

When it seemed that crashing was inevitable, Lexi squirmed in Chase's arms, trying to pull herself closer to him, letting out a high shriek as he banked. Only when he started soaring smoothly could she breathe again, but she was still pale. Her hands were still gripping him, one hand in a death grip on some of his hair. She had never been so scared in her life, and she hated herself for it.

Chase was making be and feel things she never did nor was. She was never afraid, or awkward, and she certainly never blushed. And yet, here she was, having done all those things. It confused her, how she could not even know herself anymore.

She watched the sites zoom by below them with some curiosity, even though her fear was still prominent. It was strange to think that the mother and small boy at the cross walk could not see them as they passed. Nor could the business man running to catch a subway, or the old lady sitting on a city bench.

E M M A | 1540 comments ((Haha they're so adorable))

He could feel Lexi panic as they dropped, and his heart raced uncomfortably. She needed to stop moving! Chases arms adjusted around her, shifting the weight ever so carefully in his hands. It didnt help that her hair was suffocating him and blocking his vision, or that the fabric of both the shirt and his pants were whipping dangerously, whipping his skin. Chase squeezed Lexi close to his chest, gritting his teeth as they lifted abruptly back up the way they had come, his wings outstretched casting a shadow invisible to everyone else on the cars.

"Lexi-!" Chase whined, balancing lexi in one arm as he reached back to untangle her slender fingers from his blonde locks. The lady had a death grip, and he was glad that was over. Chase took his eyes off the cars for a moment, looking down at a terrified Lexi. He uncurled her other fingers from his bicep, offering a slight comforting smile before he swooped gently to lower himself again closer to traffic. "See, that wasnt so bad, and I didnt drop you," chase snorted, returning both arms around her legs and back, bridal style.

They seemed to float now, drift in the gentle breeze in his favor. The feathers on his wings ruffled as he began to flap them to gain height again. It was nice to finally fly again, the peace and trouble free transportation he used to love so much. He was at peace for the moment, the honking and smog not irking him one bit. Thins had calmed down, lexis hair billowing out behind her instead. "Up there," chase mumbled to himself, nodding at the hospital as they approached it. He began to pump his wings, flying alongside a few pigeons before circling the hospital building while rising. They passed windows, balconies, terraces, some children visible on the inside. Chase had chosen to enter on the recovery wing where he worked, the far right side of the outstretched complex.

"Here we are," Chase's deep voice rumbled in his chest, floating up right as they descended and landed on the roof top. He had been out here a few times, but only to have his time alone. Never had he dared to fly in a city such as this one. His feet hit the ground gently, and his iradescent wings folded at his back. Chase reluctantly let Lexi down from his arms, the warmth he had felt against his chest the past five minutes vanishing. "You're alive," chase pointed out, flashing his pearly whites at Lexi before waving her towards a door. They walked across the bright helipad, hopping down from the elevated surfaces to reach the door.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi rolled her eyes, "Yeah. Thanks. Thanks for not dropping me." She shook her head, loosening her hands as he uncurled them. "You almost made me pee." She exclaimed. "Do you always fly like that? Or were you just trying to scare me?" She raised an eyebrow at him. But he leveled out and started to just glide then, and she couldn't hold back a smile. This was much nicer. His wings looked beautiful when they were in use. To be honest, she couldn't think of a time when they didn't look stunning. She had that urge to touch them again, but now, she didn't dare let go of Chase for fear of falling.

The world was beautiful like this, the wind lazy and not violent, warmly caressing them. She leaned her head against him as they flew then, just watching everything pass as she slowly relaxed. It almost ended too soon when they started spiraling around the hospital. And she seriously regretted having to get down from his arms once they had landed.

She had felt something that she had not in a long time when she was in his arms. She had felt safe. And that was something she found herself longing to experience again as soon as possible, along with touching his wings, which were calling to her. She found herself staring at them, dying with curiousity of what they would feel like. She looked into his eyes when he spoke and shook her head. "Barely." She retorted, a small smile on her features. "You nearly crashed us into that bus." She followed him when he walked across the roof and the helipad, making their way into the wing.

He had keys to open the door on the roof, and they both entered. Lexi looked around awkwardly. "Um..." She said, tugging the shirt as low as possible around her waist. "Could I get...?" she looked at him pleadingly. Just him seeing her like this was something she could deal with. But the whole world? Well that was another thing. She was suddenly very self conscious and she blushed softly, looking down.

((ikr? ^-^))

E M M A | 1540 comments "Did not!" Chase protested to lexis claims of him nearly killing the both of them. As long as he was breathing, which would be... Forever, Lexi would be too. He wouldn't let another thing happen to the redhead. He fumble for the keys zipped up in his pocket, fumbling them ino the lock. The door gave way with a little jostling, the door creaking open to reveal a set of steps in a dimly lit narrow staircase. Chase looked back to Lexi, hearing her request. "Y-yeah, sorry about that," chase blushed, turning away to hide his rosy cheeks. When things had been confusing and chaotic, lexis bare legs didnt bother him. Now that they were on stable ground and well...

"Follow me, don't say anything, don't touch anyone," chase instructed softly, before ducking down into the stairs. They were on the top most seventh floor, and he needed to get to the fifth floor to gather his belongings. Their footsteps echoed loudly with each flight they descended, chases shoes slapping against the metal. "If anyone asks, deny everything... Not a single soul," he reminded her seriously, his blue eyes flashing with warning.

At last, floor five. A door with the level number and the name of the wing was mounted on the wall, and chase sprung for the handle. He reached for lexis hand hesitantly, sheepish. "No one can see you," he reminded her in a whisper, before the door opened and closed. To anyone else, it would have seemed like a ghost had entered through the door, but luckily, no one was around to see. They were at the end of a long corridor that turned up ahead, the beep of heart monitors faint past each door. This was Andy's floor.

Chase guided Lexi hurriedly to the main lobby, the two of them dodging and ducking around nurses and hospital patients being carted around on their beds. At last, the locker room where all nurses and doctors kept their belongings as well as a spare of scrubs each. It was then that chase released lexis hand, to spin the dial on his combination. "Check the lost and found," he encouraged, tugging at a pair of lighter blue scrubs. He waited until Lexi turned the corner, before changing his pants and yanking on the marching shirt, hiding away the old scrubs that had been stained with lexis blood.

"Did you find anything?" Chases voice echoed in the empty locker room, taking a seat on the bench to tie his shoes, hoping no one would notice a blood splatter on the side of his white shoes. He fixed his hair and pumped some hand sanitizer at the end of the riw of lockers rubbing furiously to erase any germs or dried blood Lexi had left.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded, following him quickly as he lead her out into the hallway. She was very surprised when he turned on her and warned her not to tell anyone, suddenly looking very cold and dangerous. Lexi shrank back a bit. "I said I wouldn't." She mumbled, walking a little quicker. Luckily there was no one near here to see them. But what if someone came?

She got her answer when they emerged in the main lobby. Her eyes widened in shock and she looked to Chase for help. But he just assured her that they were invisible. Right. It sure didn't look like they were invisible. She accepted his hand, thankful to have a guide as they maneuvered through the packed hallways, trying not to touch anything. A stretcher rolled over Lexi's toes and she bit her lip to hold back any noise before limping after Chase. I need to get some new shoes. New everything really. She decided, as they finally slipped into the locker rooms.

She nodded at Chase's suggestion and let him change, leaving the room to go into the hallway where the large box of lost and found was kept. Of course she would not own any of it. But Chase didn't know that. So Lexi just grabbed the only pair of pants, which were two sizes too big, and slipped them on. She tied up the drawstring so they would not fall down, before searched for shoes. The only ones she came across, were a pair of heels. Lexi grimaced. It had to be heels!

Putting them on reluctantly, she made her way back to Chase. "Yeah." She nodded, sighing. "Thanks for letting me use your shirt." She said, smiling at him. She was wobbly on the heels, and quite a bit taller. "Oh yeah, and for saving my life." She grinned.

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase heard Lexi rustling about somewhere, but decided not to look for his coworker in fear of catching a glimpse of her. Leaning up against the cool lockers, chase began to relax. They were safe, under the radar, nobody would suspect a thing. Chase rubbed his hands nervously as the sound of heels clicked in te hallway, hoping Lexi would hery up an change before whoever it was saw them changing out of bloody scrubs. Not that it would be uncommon, but still.

He turned to peek the corner, finding that it was Lexi in those heels. Ooh. Oh, no, Lexi. Chase turned his head to hide a smile, clearly amused. "Found something to wear, I see," chase teased, seeing that his shirt hung on her shoulders, and the baggy scrubs around her waist were cinched to the max. Her petite feet donned a pair of heels, the whole outfit seemingly mismatched. "You look good, you look good," chase mused, nodding slowly. So much for not raising questions. "We should get back, then, nurse James," Chase huffed a sigh, removing his ID tag from lexis shirt pocket, sticking t back in his own.

Chase walked along side Lexi, taking slow leisurely steps as she hobbled along in heels that were probably too big too. "Oh, no problem, I wasnt going to have you naked," he rolled his eyes, his cheeks pink. "And.. Yeah... Of course, it was kind of my fault it happened..." Chase trailed off. "If you ever feel like pushing me in front of a bus, I totally deserve it," he opened the locker room door, waiting for her o pass through first. "As an angel... I automatically regenerate, I can't die that way," he explained in a whisper, his eyes scanning the lobby. The secretary gave them an interested look, to which chases cheeks flushed even brighter.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded, frowning. "Not my first choice of clothing, but yeah, I did." She sighed. She was pretty much committing fashion suicide here, but these clothes were better than nothing. "I'll have you know that I never wear heels. So enjoy it while you can." She said, huffing. She would rather wear muddy army boots than these shiny black things, but this was all she had.

She nodded and followed him as best as she could into the hallway. Then she raised an eyebrow. "You weren't, weren't you?" She asked him, curious. "I have a couple friends I know who would have taken advantage of that situation." She said honestly. "So thank you." He is such a nice person. My faith in humanity just grew. "It was not your fault!" She exclaimed, turning to him then. "It wasn't! I was stupid and walked in front of a truck and got hit. It wasn't your fault. You saved me." She said seriously. She couldn't be having him blame himself for something he didn't do.

He was her savior, not her murderer. "Regenerate?" She asked, very curious. What she wouldn't have given to have that power when in the field. "So can you not die at all?" she asked. That would be useful to know. She certainly would be less worried about him. She noticed the nurse's stare, and she frowned a little, in confusion. When she realized what the stare meant, she blushed bright red, and stole a quick look at Chase, before looking down again. Was that what people thought of them? Well then. She was off to a good, "laying low" start. Just great. How were they going to keep suspicion off Chase when they were like this!?

E M M A | 1540 comments "You never wear heels?" Chase cocked his head in disbelief. He had thought all girls at least owned a pair of the things, even of they didnt wear them. Especially a girl like Lexi, with her gorgeous- chase caught himself staring, inhaling as he straightened up and tucke into a hallway they had come from. "No! No I'm not that kind of guy!" He howled, embarassed. "Honest," he added, his face on fire. It wasnt like him to be perverted, like e knew so many men these days were.

Chases face darkened just then, stopping in the hall. "No, Lexi!" He protested. "I led you across that crosswalk withou looking for that truck, and I let you keep going even when I stopped! I didnt make it in time to grab you-" chase swallowed, thinking of the many times he had had to let a child die in his arms because he couldn't raise suspicion. But Lexi, he couldn't let her die, and had raised the most suspicion out of every case he'd ever had in his life. Why he saved her exactly, he wasnt sure.

"I can't get hurt too bad, my body heals itself with even the simplest cut or bruise," he explained simply, resuming his walk again. He was so out of focus that he didnt really know where they were going. "I can never die, with sickness, injury, or any other kind of cause," chase sighed. It would be a long life. In what form he'd remain in for the rest of his immortality he didnt know. There was a bit of grief knowing he'd never die, and have to watch his loved ones and friends pass away before him.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi raised her eye watching him, watch her. He seemed interested. Lexi actually found herself liking that. Liking that he actually was interested. She wasn't that happy with the staring, but the fact that he actually would made her feel really great. "It's ok. I understand. And I don't mind really." She said shyly, looking down, blushing along with him. Gosh this is awkward. She shook her head. Why was talking to him harder than any mission she had been on? It confused her to no end.

Then he started talking about how it was his fault and she winced. Grabbing his shoulders, she held him facing her. "It. Was. Not. Your. Fault." She said seriously. "I wasn't looking, you did your best to pull me away, and then risked your life to save me. Please don't blame yourself." She looked up in her eyes. "I owe you so much. Please don't blame yourself."

Then she nodded, sighing. She could tell he wasn't too happy about the never dying thing. Right now, that seemed very nice to her, but she figured she would get tired of it eventually. "You know a lot of people would kill to have that power." She said, shrugging. "Though I can see how it would get lonely..." She looked at him sympathetically.

E M M A | 1540 comments There was definitely some sort of awkward chemistry between them, one so strong, Chase couldn't trick himself out of feeling it. The amount of giggling and blushing was definitely unacceptable, espeacially at work. He had a respected position around here. Chase halted in the empty corridor of rooms,'ore to talk to Lexi seriously. "You don't mind?" Chase blurted, repeating aloud. What was that supposed to mean? Had she been referring to the heels, or the fact that he didnt want her to be basically naked? His cheeks flamed, contrasting against his blonde hair and blue eyes.

On the subject of the whole truck scene, Lexi pinned his shoulders with such intensity , even he was afraid. She was a bit shorter than him, so it only made it that much more different. As much as he wanted to argue, he knew that Lexi would win this. He knew from experience, women were always right, you were wrong. "Lexi..." He trailed off, cut off by her voice again. He inhaled deeply, deciding to let it go for her sake. Through his immortality, though, he'd never forget the moment his eyes had locked with lexis on the street before she had been so brutally snatched from him.

The two of them began to walk again, their footsteps muffled on the carpeting. He shook his head stubbornly about his power, refusing it. "I don't mind regeneration, but just thinking that I'll never die... It's torture," chase admitted softly, finding himself open to talk to Lexi about his angel problems. He had never been able to tell anyone else, no one but Amanda had ever known. And look where she was. "It's... Very lonely," he agreed. "I'd want to share it with someone, but I know that it'd probably get... Annoying, old," he shrugged, stopping I adjust a name card in its holder outside a patients closed door.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi listened to him, her expression sympathetic. Then her eyes widened a little in surprise. "Can you share it with someone?" She asked, curious. Could these angel powers spread to other people? If so, one, that would be totally awesome, two, it would make human life so much better. Imagine if we were all like him? She thought to herself briefly. That would be an agent's dream. But she guessed it would also be a nightmare to others.

She sighed and brushed her bangs away, following close behind him as they walked and trying to ignore the strange looks she got from the people they passed. Just then a nearby phone on the wall rang, and seeing that there was no one around, Lexi picked it up hesitantly. "Hello?" She asked.

There was a long silence, only broken by buzzing feedback from the other line. Then there was a soft pop and a deep man's voice came on. "We know where you are Lexi." He said, so soft Lexi had to strain her ears to hear him. "You know what I want."

Lexi's face paled considerably. The hand holding the phone started to shake softly, and she had to grip the phone with two hands to keep it at her ear.

The voice paused. "You have 24 hours." The line went dead.

Lexi put down the phone and swallowed dryly. She avoided looking at Chase and tried to keep walking calmly as if nothing had happened. She couldn't tell him about this, or he would figure out about her. And she did not want him to know that she had lied to him for some reason. It scared her, the thought of what his reaction might be. So she tried to calm down again and act normal.

E M M A | 1540 comments ((WHAT!!!! Noooooo >.< I'm so sorry Lara! I like this one too though no worries!!))

Chase snorted, shaking his head softly. "I can share it, and we'd both be weak for a while... But the powers, they slowly strengthen again, regenerate," he emphasized the word, shrugging. He didnt mention that humans were considerably weak, and that the transfer of abilities, even half of an angels, would most likely kill a human. The power was too great, the physical strain on the body wouldn't be a comfortable one even if they survived. Powers would be abused, he could see it with how humans were now. So much selfishness, death, harm.

The phone trilled abruptly by chases ear as they passed, an he paused to answer it before Lexi picked it up ahead of him. He stood back, allowing her to speak. Might as well get in all the training he could, right? Answering a phone wasnt too difficult. Chase wandered to a side bulletin hanging on the wall around the corner from the phone, adjusting pictures and newsletters with the pushpins.

The conversation was oddly silent, one ended from the sound of it. "Who is it, lex?" Chase whispered, his eyebrows furrowed with his hands on his waist. Something wasnt right. "Lexi, here give me the phone," he insisted in a whisper, noting the white pale complexion Lexi had taken on. This wasnt right. Chase had tried to grasp the phone, but the person on the other line had hung up. Lexi walked on, breezing by as if nothing at all had happened. "Lexi," chase called, following her pace with anxiety. What exactly had been said on the phone? It wasn't the 911 line, so it wasnt anything too terrifying. The recovery wing usually only was called to inform for deliveries, need for assistance, or instructions from a doctor.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi kept up a brisk pace, suddenly wishing he wouldn't follow her. Her heart was pounding so hard she was afraid the whole ward could hear it, like a drum beat at a rock concert. She had a hard time wobbling around in the heels, but she was walking as fast as she could. She was looking for any way of escape. "I'm fine." She managed to stammer when he persisted, but her voice clearly portrayed that she was not.

Lexi spotted a bathroom and spun quickly, heading at it quickly. She dodged into the girls bathroom, a single room with a toilette and sink and closed the door after her. She leaned on the sink and looked at herself in the mirror. She was as white as a ghost, her red hair and freckles standing out like tomato flesh on a sheet of paper. She swallowed slowly and tried to breathe deeply.

((Sorry its so short! Im on my phone :/ ))

Chase scowled in frustration, trying to get Lexi to stop in the least agressive ways possible. He had to know what had happened on that line. The way the read head was acting, and the fact that she was knew and e couldn't trust her with work related issues, all made the deal very suspicious. Something was going on, and he didnt like it one bit. "Lexi, no you're not! Wait-!" He called after her, lexis fiery red hair streaming out behind her as she stumbled to the bathroom in those awful heels of hers. The poor girl. A nurse stopped by and grabbe chase's arm jus as he was to race her to the bathroom Lexi was obviously heading for, the nurse shaking her head. "The girls upset, leave her alone," she said sternly, softly.

By the time the lady had finished her little lecture of one minute, Chase looked up in frustration. The bathroom door was closed, the green "occupied" sign on the lock showing the door was locked. Now what? He strode to the door and tried the handle, just in case, but it was definitely locked. He groaned in anger, his fingers sliding through his blonde hair before his body leaned on the door. "Lexi...?" His voice finally came, gentle but firm. This wasnt going to work if she was going to bottle up her thoughts and emotions, keep secrets in his own wing.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi stared at herself. She was afraid. She was really truely afraid. And before Chase had happened, she didn't even know the emotion. But now. There was this man, and the fact that Chase may find out about her. She didn't want him to. She wanted to stay friends. What a way to repay someone for saving your life. Just turn out to be someone sent to hand you i6n. That was what she was afraid of, his reaction.

Yes. She was afraid of the man, who had been asking for her to hand Chase over. She knew she had a day to hand him over or die, but somehow, she was more afraid of Chase. She was afraid of what he would think. What he would say. What he would do. She didnt want to hurt him. Not anymore.

She breathed deeply for another couple minutes before opening the door slowly. "Im ok." She immediately said, not looking up at him. She was practically trembling from the trauma of this all.

E M M A | 1540 comments The door slowly peeked open, and chase lifted his weight from the door. Lexi looked awfully from what he could tell, her eyes downcast and refusing to look at him. The good news was that Lexi wasnt crying. At least it wasnt that bad, right? "Hey, you don't look so good... Why don't we sit you down?" Chase offered softy, pushing the door open a slight bit more, offering his hand to the petite nurse who was almost shaking. What had she heard on that phone that was so distressing? Who had been on the other line? The situation was unique, scaring almost.

Chase guided Lexi towards the hospital patients corridors, finding an empty room and ushering her inside. He closed the door partially, sitting Lexi down on a visitors chair, pulling up another beside her. "I can't stand to see you like this.. What did someone say to you on that phone?" Chase pressed, hoping not to break Lexi. She was already in sch a condition, he wasnt so sure that asking these kind of questions would take off any stress from the already troubling situation. It was already late in the afternoon, and he'd hve to make his second ritual around to each child's room. Certainly the nurses would have noticed them missing by now.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi shifted nervously, wondering if she should try to wrench away from him and escape, or walk along. She ended up following him to an empty room and she gulped, sitting down slowly when he showed her a chair. She really didn't like this situation, but what could she do about it?

Then he asked that question and Lexi's eyes bulged. "No!" She squeaked. "No don't ask! I cant tell you!" She exclaimed, hiding her head in her hands. She couldnt do this. Not with him. She knew she was a lying, betraying monster, and she couldn't bring herself to admit it. She almost rathered that she died tomorrow over him finding out. She couldnt face her one friends reaction to her betrayal.

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase eyes widened, his face backing away from Lexi as she screamed at him, his heart thrumming in his ears. That's when he decided he'd back off the entire matter, as curious as he was. It wasnt worth losing a friend over, and she already looked so upset. It must have been personal, maybe someone had insulted her or something, and she just hadnt felt like talking about it. "Okay okay okay!" Chase surrendered, his hands raised as he leaned back from Lexi, scooting in his chair. She deserved some space, maybe to think things out.

"Okay," he whispered gently, standing from his own chair. He rested a palm on lexis back, kneeling to her level. His other hand squeezed her knee gently, comfortingly. "If you ever want to talk about it, or something... I'll be out in the halls," chase murmured softly, looking at the back of her hands on her face. He gave her one last pat, before sighing reluctantly and leaving the room. Just like that, he was gone, and begun to act like nothing had happened, taking a clipboard around to the rooms.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments The second he was gone, Lexi broke down sobbing. She hated this, that he made her so weak and helpless and emotional and yet she loved it. She hated that she felt something for him, and was betraying him at the same time. She hated that she was so conflicted and didn't know what to do with herself. And the death threat only added to the tension. Lexi curled up, crying softly by herself for almost an hour. When her tears had finally dried, she looked up at the wall and took a deep breath. She knew what she had to do.

Getting up, she wiped her eyes and went to the nearest reception desk, grabbing a slip of paper and a pen.

When a passing nurse asked if she was alright, she just nodded numbly, not looking up. The nurse didn't ask any further question, suspecting that Lexi didn't want to talk.

Lexi clicked the back of the pen and slowly started to scrawl a note.

When she had finished, she stuck it on the desk in Andrew's room and quietly slipped out, leaving the hospital silently. She hugged Chase's shirt to herself, and with one last longing look back at the building, she disappeared into the streets.

The note she had left for him read:

I am so sorry for everything.
It really was nice knowing you.
Goodbye,
Lexi

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase was beginning to feel really upset, having not seen Lexi for the past hour or so. Making his rounds didnt even make him feel better, and the children could sense his depressed attitude. It was amazing how they could even see through his mask, like they were somehow connected. He supposed since they were children and he was an angel, he made better bonds with each one of them. He was on Andy's hall now, the last one for the day. He was tempted just to skip right over to Andy's room, but restrained himself knowing he might forget the others before him.

Chase finally was finished with his rounds, and entered Andy's door. "Hey, buddy!" He grinned, high-fiving the little boy. He hugged chase, before an unsettled expression crossed his fragile features. "The lady with the red hair came here... She was crying," Andy murmured softly, remembering how he had feigned sleep so as not to scare her. At this, chase started, tossing the clipboard aside on the floor and crawling into Andrews bed. "She was? Did she say anything? What was she doing in here? Did she say where she was going?" Chase asked rapidly, his big blue eyes softening with deep concern. Had he made her really crack by confronting her like that? Was there something wrong? Obviously, stupid, he thought to himself.

Andy shook his head sadly, seeing the man he looked up to so much being in pain. "She just cried, she put a paper there," Andy murmured, unable to look chase in the eyes. He just seemed so broken. Not even a visit with his favorite patient could help him, just like when Amanda left.

Chase scrambled for the paper, picking it up with shaking hands as he began to read it to himself. What...? Goodbye? Goodbye! Lexi was leaving, already? She couldn't just leave the hospital like this, that was her job! Chase had to read the note seven times over before it got through to him. She was gone. Just like Amanda, gone. He hadnt even gotten to say goodbye to her!

Chase crumpled where he was standing on the floor, his heart aching as tears of frustration and hurt slipped from his eyes. He couldn't believe it happened. It had to be the angel part, maybe that had freaked her out, made her uneasy, and some phone call had broken her apart. Chase let out a broken sob, curling his knees to his chest and crumpling the paper. He chucked it at a wall angrily, whimpering. What had he done wrong? They'd only known each other for a day, but she was the second closest he'd ever gotten to anyone. Maybe he needed more male friends. Maybe he'd just go gay.

He stood up wiping his face, facing Andy in his bed. "How long ago was this?" Chase demanded. Andy had guessed less than twenty minutes ago. She was probably long gone by then, but he had to check. It wasnt fair. He had saved her life, and this was how she repaid him. Lexi had actually made him feel good, not regret being the angel he was. Now, he wasnt so sure. Chase was convinced it was because he was this monster. This weird guy with wings.

Chase jogged from the room, neglecting all nurses who asked him what was going on, why the red head he had been seen with was crying, why he was crying. He pushed past those nurses out into the gloomy cold New York afternoon, with the sun slowly setting over the skyscrapers. A nippy wind ate at his nose, ears and fingertips, as he looked about desperately. Maybe Lexi was in her car, or-or just taking a walk. She's could be around here somewhere, right?

Chase felt like some lovesick puppy, desperate, thirsty, some would say. To him, Lexi had begun to be more than his assistant in training. She was his friend, his crush. She made him feel special, she made him feel loved, she made him feel like he was perfect regardless if he was human or not. Now he was wondering if he even meant anything to her. "Lexi! Lexi James! Please!" He shouted over the wind, his voice wavering as r called out for the redhead. She had to be around here somewhere. She had to.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi walked quickly, hoping to put as much distance between her and that hospital as she could. She didn't know where she was going. She could barely see through the tears that had forced their way into her eyes again. Each breath she took was heavy, painful almost, as if her heart was reluctant to work because it was in so much pain. She hated herself. She hated the world. Her job was who she was. Her job was what she lived for. And now, her job was the one thing that was tearing her life in half, hurting Chase. The first person to actually get past the walls she had put up. She was hurting him. And she didn't know who she was anymore. It left her feeling empty, alone... with no purpose in life at all.

As it grew later, it grew colder and Lexi started shiver. She only had on a T-shirt and extra large pair of jeans. Not exactly something to wear in the cold weather. Looking up from her feet for once, she looked for somewhere to go. Of course there was the agency. She had an apartment there. But the thought of going back there made her want to vomit. She scanned the houses in the darker part of the city she was in.

With her experienced eye, she could tell that this was a rough neighbourhood. But she wasn't worried. She was confident in her abilities to defend herself. And as long as someone didn't come along with a gun, she figured she would be fine. Hugging her arms to her stomach, she started to wander around looking for someplace to stay.

As she crossed one street, she thought she saw someone that looked like Chase out of the corner of her eye. She winced and almost starting crying all over again. Now I'm hallucinating about him. She thought miserably, picking up her speed to try and find some place warm before she froze. Unfortunately, the area she was in seemed to be composed of cheep restaurants only, and no hotels or apartments. Walking into a nearby pizzeria, she sat down in a corner and tried to get warm.

A waitress came over. "What would you like?" She asked.

Lexi didn't have any money with her. She had lost it in the accident. "Could I have a tap water?" She asked.

The waitress nodded. "With a purchase."

"I'm afraid I can't buy anything."

The waitress frowned. "Then you'll have to get out."

Lexi's eyes widened. "But-"

"Out!" The waitress pointed at the door.

Lexi got up defeated and walked to the door, opening it slowly and cringing as a gust of cold air hit her. She walked out into the streets and sank down against a wall, huddling her knees to her chest. She was shivering almost immediately, and she tucked her tear stained face against her knees, trying to stay warm. But the cold soon got to her, seeping into her bones. It completed how she was feeling. Now her body felt like her heart did.

Chase had become pretty frantic when it sunk in that Lexi wasnt here, that she was gone. Forever. It was something he had to love with, forever, if he didnt make an effort to find the girl. Maybe she was still around. She had to live in the city, if she worked here, right? Chase ducked into an alley with a new drive of determination, turning invisible to the world and spreading his wings. It would be much quicker this way, perhaps he could catch her on the streets. It was cold and dark out, and soon prowlers would be on the lookout for beautiful girls.

"Lexi!" He shouted, only audible to who he chose. Lexi. If she heard him, it would make things easier, but it was high hopes he had. No matter how loud he was, it wouldn't help in the slightest to find her. Chase circled the city in his wings, alert and more observant than ever. He was led on by a redhead, thinking it was her, but of course it turned out to be someone else. That's how unfair life was to him. He didnt know that he HA passed over Lexi, and not seen her huddled in the cold with her head tucked into her chest, shivering.

Chase was about to give up, an hour later of endless shouting and gliding, when he spotted her. Lexi James. She was leaned up against a wall, and he had almost mistakend her for homeless. What was she doing out here, alone! It was freezing out now, less than 50 degrees on a New York night. "Lexi!" He yelped in relief, swooping down beside her suddenly, tucking in his wings and becoming visible again to humans. "Lexi, Lexi-!" He sobbed, embracing the red head with exhaustion. He wasnt too cold, with his warm inner core and adequate clothing for being born and raised in Michigan.

"What are you doing out here?" He finally got himself together, remembering what had happened in the first place. She left him. He kinda felt like the bad guy, chasing her down this way and demanding answers. "Come on, you're blue," chase frowned, draping an arm around her shoulders and offering to guide her into the restaurant she was sitting by. Lexi really did look awful, with puffy eyes, ice cold skin, and tangled hair. Yet, she was still beautiful.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi thought she heard her name called, and she immediately thought she was going crazy. She was so desperate for things to be ok, so she could see Chase again, that she was pretending he really was here. Then he appeared, in the alley beside her, and Lexi's eyes widened. I must really be insane! She thought, shaking her head. But then he hugged her, and she could easily feel that he was solid, and warm. He was real! And he was here!

Lexi hugged him back immediately, both drawing comfort and warmth from his embrace. Lexi stood with him slowly, leaning into him. She was shivering and trembling at once. She couldn't argue about being cold. It was freezing outside and her hands had long since gone numb. Once they were inside the restaurant, Lexi ignored the waiter's suspicious look and sat at a table with him.

Only then did she really come to her senses. Her eyes widened and she looked up at him in fear, "I have to... I have to go!" She exclaimed. "You can't stay here with me. I'll just hurt you. I already have hurt you. I was going to hurt you!" she exclaimed, her voice breaking into a sob. She scooted a little away from him, shrinking down in her seat. "I'm so sorry. I don't want to any more. I never meant for this to happen. I never wanted to hurt you. I actually... I actually like you." She said softly, shaking her head sadly. "But its too late. You have to go before you get hurt. I'm really sorry. I thought it would be better this way. If I left now. It wouldn't be as hard to say goodbye when I'm gone." She whispered. "But hey. Maybe you'll end up being the angel who carries me away from here when this is all over." She said, managing a weak smile. She stood, still shivering, and turned to go.

((np I have to leave now for the rest of the night as well.))

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase nearly carried Lexi to a booth, his arm around her sides as he tried to warm her up. She looked so sick, so fragile, her nose sniffling and her lips turning blue. He sat in a booth beside her, tucking her hands in between her legs for warmth. Chase touched her hands and gave her his blessing, hoping that a bit of strength would help her keep body heat. "Lexi, you're freezing... Lets get you a Coffee or something," chase murmured, his face clouded with concern. At that moment, why she left hadnt mattered so much. Just the fact that he was here now, and so was she.

Even though Lexi had left the hospital to get away from him, perhaps forever, chase had tracked her down. It was a little bit of an awkward situation for both of them, but neither said a word. He was about to flag the waitress down, when lexis eyes widened and her body stiffened. "Lex?" Chases eyebrows furrowed over his blue eyes. She started going off about how she had hurt him, how she liked him, how it was better if she left. Several times chase had attempted to interrupt her, clasping her hands in his lap before they were wrenched away. Lexi was shuttin him out, leaving him. Literally.

Lexi had stood up, leaving chase with watering eyes. He was speechless, unable to process a single coherent thought. What had been so important that she was denying their friendship? It had to do with that other that call. Ever since she had answered the phone, things had gone south. Chase remembered the feeling of abandonment he had felt when Amanda had started packing away her belongings in front of him, how he had sat by and done nothing but feel miserable for himself. Now, chase wanted an explanation. It wasnt fair to him that very woman he loved had walked out.

Chase stood after Lexi, scowling. "Lexi James!" He snapped, stepping after her and reaching for her hand. He spun her around, his firm grip on her upper arms. As chase stood a good few inches abov Lexi, he was staring down into her beautiful eyes. "Why are you doing this to me..?" His vice was low, wavering with emotion. "You can't just leave me like this, Lexi! It's not fair," he whispered, slackening his hands in fear that he was hurting her. A tear unexpectedly trailed down his sculpted jaw, his teeth clenching to prevent any more from spilling.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi was astonished when he snapped at her, spinning her around and gripping her to the point that it was painful. She was actually a little scared of this side of him. Why did leaving him hurt him so? Where was the pain in his eyes coming from? As he talked, Lexi's heart sank into her stomach, twisting in a million knots. And then a tear slid down his face and Lexi practically broke in half. She pinched her lips together in determination and grabbed his hand, pulling him out of the restaurant and back into the empty alley.

Then she faced him, trembling from cold and fear. "If you want to kill me after this, then fine. So be it. Ill be dead in two days anyways." She muttered bitterly, shaking her head. "You shouldn't worry about me. You shouldn't care. I am such a horrible person." She said softly, looking down at the asphalt, unable to look at him. "I was sent to the hospital to find a 'magician' and bring them in. That was you Chase. I was sent to betray you." She whispered, stuffing her hands in her pockets to hide their shaking.

"Im an... im an agent. And I dont deserve your kind words and gentleness and protection. I have to go. I have to go because theyll use me to get you. I wish it wasnt this way, but..." she shook her head. "Im really sorry." She turned away so he would not see her tears.

E M M A | 1540 comments The way Lexi treated the entire deal made chase nervous, his heart hammering in his ears. His tear quickly turned cold, sending chills down his neck. They were in a dark alley, under the moonlight seeping through the skyscrapers. It wasnt the best place to be in New York City, but his worries could wait. Chases hands softened around her shoulders, moving closer to her to keep the girl warm. He was immediately alarmed, his blue eyes snapping up from the asphalt. If he wanted to kill her after this? Was it really that much of a big deal...?

Chase swallowed, unable to tolerate the way Lexi was talking about er self, bringing her way down. "Lexi..." Chase whispered, a hand moving to cup her cheek and remove a pesky red strand from her eyes. "You're my friend. I wouldn't hurt you for the world," he said softly, meaning every word. "I don't think you're a horrible person, lex, don't think like that," chase frowned, dropping his hand back to her shoulder and giving her a squeeze of encouragement. Wrong choice. His face fell, shocked.

So someone knew, someone had tipped him off, and his inability to moderate his blessings on the children had gotten the attention of the government, or whoever Lexi worked for. That was why she had come so suddenly, knew so little, asked questions... It made chase feel wretched. He was speechless, his hands dropping to his sides. "They know...?" Chase whispered, swallowing uneasily. Could they be watching at any moment? He knew that angels were limited in power, and if caught, the one thing that they possessed was precious an couldn't be caught in the hands of humans. If it happened, the Archangel would withdraw the individual from the earth, never to return again until trust was earned.

He was lost in thought, feeling a little scared, a little cornered, a little helpless. Who was coming for him? What would they... Do to him? "B-but Lexi.. You aren't going to turn me in... Are you-?" He croaked, his vision blurring with tears. "It doesn't have to be this way, Lexi please..." He begged softly, wiping his cheeks. "Run away with me, quit, they don't have to know," chase bribed Lexi, anything for a chance at what they had that day to become stronger. After Amanda, his heart was too fragile to be toyed with again.

"Lexi, please," chase's voice was barely above a whisper, and the urge to get on his knees and beg her almost taking over. If what Lexi said was true, he'd have to flee the country, somehwere he could blend in again. It meant leaving his foster family behind, the hospital, New York- and it nearly destroyed him.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments The sound of his voice nearly killed her, and it certainly flooded her eyes with tears. She shook her head weakly, her legs shaking and she was worried they would give out Her breathing was heavy again... almost strained. "No. I am not going to turn you in. I wouldn't do that for the life of me." She promised, her voice soft. She couldn't face him, she could bear to see the emotion she knew she would find on his face. "I'm so sorry." She choked out.

She shook her head over and over, trying to gain the voice to speak. Tears were slipping down her cheeks regularly now. "I can't stay around you Chase, it's too dangerous. I don't want to hurt you." she whispered. "I-I... I can't go anywhere anyways Chase." she said miserably.

"Like I said, they'll kill me in two days. That was what the phone call was about. They were threatening to kill me in 48 hours. And they will do it. They can. Each agent has a 'kill chip' implanted on them, for emergencies. The man who is going to kill me has the ability to activate my chip." She said softly. "Wouldn't it be better for you and I to part ways now? I can't stay with you, though I wish I could. There's nothing I can do about it." She whispered.

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase could finally breathe again with the reassurance that Lexi wouldn't turn him in, that it was all up to whoever she worked for to get him. "Thank you," chase whispered forgivingly, a bit crestfallen with the whole situation. A bit? Completely. Chase had gotten such high hopes for working with Lexi, especially after he had revived her and the truth had come out. But now it was all crumbling down in front of his eyes, and there's was little, if anything, he could do to save them both. Chase touched her arm again, hoping another blessing would help her stop chattering her teeth at least in the cold.

"Let them hurt me, Lexi! I can heal myself, remember? I can't die! But my heart, the emotional strain that you being away from me will give me- I can't do it! There Is no cure for that, don't you understand?" He said desperately, using hand motions to emphasize his point. What they'd do with him he didnt want to know. Or think. He'd seen enough movies, read enough stories to get at what the boss would want with him. Lexi had brought a little life into him for the first time in months, a hope growing inside his aching chest. He wasnt about to let it all be shattered for nothing.

Chase choked on his own spit, coughing over his feet for a few moments struggling to maintain himself. "They'll what!?" He exclaimed, his voice shrill. "They'll kill you, Lexi?" He repeated incredulously. He was disgusted. The things people would do to get what they want, it wasnt all that fair at all. "Who do you work for...?" Chase asked, horrified as his eyes searched hers. She was feeling just as bad as he was, if mot worse. "Let them kill you, I can bring ou back, remember?" Chase suggested abruptly, giving it everything he had to save the girl he had fallen in like with.

"They'll kill you, I'll save you, then we- you can live your life again, I'll protect you," chase suggested, his face pink as he tried not to lose it again. "Or-or turn me in. Turn me in, Lexi, save yourself, I can handle this," chase murmured, clasping lexis frigid fingers. He warmed them up between his palms, the warmth from them immediately beginning to thaw her hands out. She was going to get pneumonia, if her boss didnt kill her first.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded numbly. "Yes. He will kill me." She whispered, shaking her head. "He has no problem with that. And I don't trust him either. Even if I did hand you in, he might still kill me for knowing to much. That's how power works with humans Chase. We are so flawed." She said miserably, shaking her head. She was shivering violently, but she hardly noticed. "I refuse to turn you in. There is no guarantee that he wont still kill me and he will hurt you. There is no doubt about it." She said shaking her head.

"But..." She said softly, looking down and away. "But I don't know if I can die again..." She mumbled, her face scrunching up. She felt like such a coward. "I don't want to die. The last time was scary... I don't know if I could do it again."She said, her voice as soft as a whisper as she swallowed nervously.

"Besides. It drains you. You were weak and passing out last time. What if you can't do it again?" She asked. "What if I do die and and you do save me, and the chip in me still works and he kills me again?" She asked, shuddering with cold and fear. She was on the edge of breaking down, all of her nerves and emotions taught. "I... I can't handle this. I can't. I can't take it anymore." she whispered, shaking her head. "Everyone wants me dead cause of my job, and now I'm endangering you. I can't live with myself." She mumbled, closing her eyes as two tears painted wet trails down her cheeks.

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase huffed a frustrated sigh, resisting the urge to start pacing and talking to himself. There seemed to be no way out of the whole situation, the stress slowly eating away at chase's sanity. "He can't hurt me," chase said stubbornly, knowing fully that he could experience pain, and his healing would only last for so long. He couldn't heal himself and save Lexi. That would drain him completely, extinguish his powers for good. He wasnt so sure if the archangel would be so merciful and transfer some of the light to Chase, but it would be his last hope for ever living again on the earth. Only the draining of his essence would kill him, and just like that chase would vanish off the face of the earth. He'd just be a line spirit, unable to communicate with anyone.

"There's gotta be a way, Lexi, I can save us both-" chase's voice cracked, two tears, then three, then seven sliding down his cheeks and dripping on his shirt. He stepped forward, his arms wrapping around Lexi tightly as he let himself have a few moments to cry silently. "Lexi, it's your only hope, he's gonna use that kill switch sooner or later, and it Had better be when I'm around, so you can live again-" chase babbled, wiping his face with his shoulder. The same overwhelming helplessness he HA felt with Amanda came flooding back, old emotions stirring with new.

"I can do it again! I can! If I'm weak, I know another angel, she can help us both! Please Lexi, please...!" Chase begged, his face buried in his own shirt on lexis shoulders. "It's my fault for all this, I didnt keep my tracks covered well enough, I-I let myself get careless with how many blessings I gave-! Don't blame yourself, don't, don't..." Chase had gone off the edge by then, his shoulders shaking with each sob. Why e was so desperate not to lose Lexi he didnt know. After Amanda, being abandoned like this had a truly upsetting effect, both emotionally and mentally.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi hugged him back tightly, distressed by his crying. She rubbed his back to try and calm him down. She didnt know how she could stay with him any other way than dying, which meant it was her only option. She swallowed dryly, trying to find the courage that seemed to have failed her. "Ok." She whispered. "Ok ill do it. Ill die." She told him, hiding her face in his chest.

Lexi looked up at him slowly then, almost pleadingly. "Please dont leave me alone when it happens." She begged her voice soft. "I couldnt do it without you there." She whispered, managing a small smile. "I wont leave anymore." She promised. "Im not going to just leave you. Im just nervous about dying." She shuddered. "And terrified, and cold." She said honestly.

Why was life so tough? It wasnt fair. "I-I..." she said softly, feeling that connection to him again. Suddenly she never wanted to leave him again. "I love you." She stammered. "I need you."

E M M A | 1540 comments Chase couldn't help but feel foolish, blubbering about feelings and how he couldn't survive without her. He hugged Lexi tighter to him in the cold, cursing the August weather in New York. Why'd it have to be so cold this year? With the height difference, Lexi was pressed up against his chest, the thought never occurring to him that Lexi may be suffocating. He slackened his embrace ony the slightest, still trembling tryin to recover from the initial shock of the past few hours. He could say it was his body's natural reaction to his newest fear, isolation.

He heard lexis golden words, pulling back only enough to get a glimpse at her moinlit face. "Y-you'll do it?" He blurted incredulously. "You'll die?" Chase whispered, his masculine features having softened by his crying. Pressing his forehead to hers, chase laughed shakily with relief. "Thank you, lex, thank you so much," he whispered against her skin, closing his eyes and hoping to relax himself a bit. "I won't ver leave you, I swear, I'll be with you every step of the way," chase swore, wiping his face madly in embarrassment.

"Don't be nervous, I'll bring you back, no matter what," chase assured her in a low murmur. "Just hang on to yourself, don't let your spirit get sucked up to the heavens," chase stroked a gentle finger on her cheek, his heart fluttering. "Cold? Lets get you home, then, your fingers are still a bit chilly," chase frowned, clasping lexis slender hands once again in his stronger, larger palms. It was late now, ad a glance at his watch revealed that it was nearly nine PM. He would hate to get mugged after all this, and the dropping temperature now that the sun was gone would quickly make Lexi very ill.

He felt his heart in his throat, caught off guard when Lexi whispered the L word. Love. Chase was numb, a lump caught in his throat. He knew he felt the same for Lexi, it was just difficult saying it aloud. Ever since Amanda, he'd never uttered the three word sentence to anyone. It was a turning pout for chase, one where he had let go of the heavy burden Amanda's break up had been to him. "I... I love you too, Lexi," he whispered finally, his eyes closed as their noses touched. He didnt really care about limits anymore, all he knew was that Lexi had to be it. Almost every little trial that he could really think of that any couple would for through in life had been thrown at them in one day, and they were still together in the end. On too of that, she hadnt feared his angel background. Lexi didnt scream at him, hit him, or run away because she simply felt like it. "I need you," chase murmured with more confidence, somply repeating what the redhead had said in the first place.

Before chase really knew what he was doing, his lips were pressed against lexis, his tear staine cheeks brushing against lexis cold ones. His hands rubbed her arms comfortingly, again in vain attempts to keeps her warm from the harsh New York fall.

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded, a little bit more confidant now that she knew she would not be alone when she died. If chase was there, it wouldn't be as scary. She would have someone to hold her hand. "Thank you." She whispered against him, breathing deeply to try and calm down. To be honest, she was freaking out about dying. What if she couldn't keep her soul down? What if he didn't have enough energy to save her?

She was still hugging him and breathing deeply when she felt him shift, and suddenly she was looking in his eyes. She blushed softly as her eyes connected with his. What was that emotion she saw in them? Why was he bending down... Lexis eyss widened like sausers when she felt the lips on her hers.

But then her mind wrapped around the situTion and she relaxed, melting into his arms. She really had no idea how she was doing, and if she was doing this right or wrong. Sparks were running up and down her spine and ever so slowly, she started to kiss him back. Her arms raised and wrapped around his neck, pulling herself closer as she moaned softly .

((Bed time. Bye!))
